I have yet to read this book series from Dean Koontz but I am glad to that the film adaptation of “Odd Thomas is moving forward and becoming more active with promotion of the film. I know that movies always fall short of telling the compelling tale resting within the pages of a novel but most of my Koontz experience has been through film and television. I am pretty impressed with this promo trailer for the film that released recently giving us a closer glimpse into the Odd Thomas world on screen. The film is directed by Stephen Sommers and stars Anton Yelchin, Addison Timlin, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nico Tortorella, Patton Oswalt, and Willem Dafoe.
Odd Thomas (Yelchin) tells the story of a short-order cook with clairvoyant abilities. Maybe he has a gift, maybe it’s a curse, Odd has never been sure, but he tries to do his best by the silent souls who seek him out. Sometimes they want justice and he finds himself helping police solve a crime. Occasionally, they prevent one.
One day, however, a mysterious man comes to town with a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world’s worst killers and a pack of hyena-like shades that follow him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd’s deceased informants can tell him. What happens next is a mysterious battle between light and darkness.
“Odd Thomas” will see a limited theatrical release on February 28th and I am pretty much sold on this based solely on the fact that Anton Yelchin is simply ambrosial both in looks and talent. Plus Willem DeFoe is sickly captivating in pretty much everything he does. “Odd Thomas” should be an interesting watch.
