The-Legend-of-the-Psychotic-Forest-RangerTHE LEGEND OF THE PSYCHOTIC FOREST RANGER is now available on DVD from Level 33 Entertainment on April 22nd, 2014. Full of laughs and gore, this film delivers the campy entertainment of slasher movies from days gone by.THE LEGEND OF THE PSYCHOTIC FOREST RANGER is available at Amazon.com and other fine retailers at an SRP of $14.99.

Written, directed, and produced in Canada by Brad Mills, THE LEGEND OF THE PSYCHOTIC FOREST RANGER was an official selection at the Atlantic Film Festival. The movie is a fun, campy throwback to those old 80’s VHS horror flicks that you would rent at your local video store.

Full of plot holes and cheesy dialogue, THE LEGEND OF THE PSYCHOTIC FOREST RANGER is a B horror movie straight out of the 1970s and ‘80s. After taking a wrong turn down an abandoned road, the Jock, the Joker, the Blond Bimbo, and the Paranoid Brunette run out of gas and find themselves stranded in the middle of the woods. ADAM K. Principal Photography Almost Halted By Los Angeles Police

Adam-K  Principal Photography Was Nearly Shut Down By LAPD Interference But Survives To Come To Theaters And Home Video Soon!

Los Angeles, CA – March 18, 2014 – Writer and Director of the recently wrapped suspense/thriller ADAM K. and the upcoming 80's horror throwback AXEMAN (formerly Axeman At Cutter's Creek), Joston "El Rey" Theney announced today that the fact ADAM K. will be making it's way to theaters and home video at all is a miracle following a law enforcement incident that threatened to shut down production.

Jessica Cameron as Vanessa Collins
“It was wild,” Theney explained.  "We were filming a riveting sequence with two terrific actresses, Sarah Nicklin and Kristin Wall Wheatley, when the Los Angeles Police Department responded to their cries for help."  The writer/director reflects back on the harrowing experience, "Anytime a team of police responds with weapons drawn and all my actors are covered in the sticky red stuff, you have a recipe for disaster.  We'd even warned the neighbors of the production and taken precaution but no one knew Sarah's lungs carried so much power!

Neighbors from a different apartment building across the street were calling for cops!"  There is a moment of levity when he can take a breather from the excitement that was.  "But after a little explaining and a whole lot of poker-facing, I was able to convince the cops that all was well and that we were just doing a horror flick.  Nice to know that they truly are there when you need them.  Great response times!"

Brinke Stevens as Mrs. Kraul"But we did get the film done - in the can," the AXEMAN writer/director exclaimed.  "Even got some nifty BTS of cops and such.  It's easy to laugh now but certainly not then."  When pressed for release info, Theney responded, "Early Fall we'll have the Los Angeles premiere then a Bay Area showing.  Some festivals have reached out to us but we're only going to do about two or three those.  It's a great film, with an amazing cast.  You never know how rich you are until you have more than you need or deserve, and this wonderful team of actors and crew were more than I could've asked for and certainly better than I deserved.  Love them all and can't wait to see them on ADAM 2, which we start filming later this year."

Kristin Wall Wheatley as Detective Kelsey Andrews
ADAM K. is a gory take on the tale of nature versus nurture that proves - evil wears a smile!  Mild-mannered and seemingly good-natured auto insurance claims adjusters Adam Kraul sets out daily to make friends, however ends up with mutilated victims when his invitations for friendships are rejected.  The film stars Brinke Stevens, Arielle Brachfeld, Kristin Wall Wheatley, Sarah Nicklin, Jessica Cameron, Graham Denman and Dylan Hobbs.  Written, Directed and Produced by Joston "El Rey" Theney.

Teaser Trailer Released For Horror Film “The Border”

the borderCheck out the teaser trailer for Spencer Gray’s horror film “The Border”. The trailer was released along with the latest details about the project.

Press Release:
MUFX artist turned Writer/Director Spencer Gray’s new horror film The Border will be independently financed withprivate investors and a unique crowd funding campaign that will go live online via Indie Go Go April Fools Day 2014.

Why is The Border’s crowd funding campaign set apart from the others?

Writer/Director Gray had this to say:

“The horror genre is almost dead and the big studios are the collective villain. Today’s genre films are missing so much heart and originality it’s almost made me stop watching horror entirely unless it’s from a foreign market or truly indie. As Alfred Hitchcock, the Master of Suspense, so eloquently put it, ‘There is no terror in the bang, only the anticipation of it.’That’s what is missing. Not to mention people enjoy being scared. The goosebumps. The hairs on the back of your neck standing on end. The heart racing with anticipation. The gore. Those are just a few things missing in today’s horror films and why fans will always embrace the classics.

The plot of The Border is as follows: “When the granddaughter of a U.S. Senator goes missing near the border of Mexico, former Black Ops agent Jack Barrabas is forced out of retirement to find her. Every path he takes, secret he uncovers and body he drops leads to a secret, mysterious door in a small border town. What he finds behind this door will forever change the world, and who he thinks he is, for the worse. You will never recover from what lies beyond THE BORDER.”

Associate Producer Rob Bedard commented: “I like seeing people wondering what is really going on in a world this big. The secrets which are buried beneath the complete lies of every day people. This film got my attention because it’ll make people dig deep into the truth and hopefully change the way they think and what they believe.”

The Border is a character-driven story that is structured to bring back the Fright Factor and throw out all the typical genre trappings. Producer and indie filmmaker Jeremy Mitchell added: “Audiences will be in for a treat as the story is original, and not a rehash of tired, dead storylines that is all too common in today’s market. Not to mention, people’s basic fascination with the unknown will be dying to know what is behind that door! You’ll never figure it out and we want to keep it that way. Only myself and the director know at this point, even cast and crew are in the dark and that’s fun!”
Why Indie Go Go?

Gray had this conclusion: “So we could tell the story we want to tell without interference from The Suits. I don’t want somebody telling me I can’t do this or that or make me cut it to pieces because it’s not commercial. I also refuse to dumb anything down because horror fans are not dumb. It doesn’t matter if it’s Rob Zombie or Wes Anderson, people love the idiosyncratic. All they (The Suits) want to do is make movies, not good movies.”

The Border already has an amazing cast and talent pool dedicated to discovering what’s behind that door:

Starring martial arts master Richard Ryan (Dead Men, Honorless), Katrina Matusek (Xtraction, Cathedral Canyon), Eileen Dietz (The Excorcist, Helter Skelter), Noel Guglielmi (Training Day, The Dark Knight Rises), Melantha Blackthorne (Sinners and Saints, Order of One: Kung Fu Killing Spree), Amanda Marie (The Town That Dreaded Sundown, Dracula’s War), Troy Johnson (Vertical), hip hop sensation Wyzae and many other icons from the horror and action genres. It will also be the genre debut of alternative model Sebrina Bedard.
Beware!

April’s Fools Day is sooner than you think!

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Ostara/Spring Equinox

eostreMarch 20th is the Spring Equinox, a time when we pagans celebrate Ostara, the pagan festival to Eostre/Ostara. On the spring and fall equinoxes, day and night are of equal lengths. Ostara celebrates the coming of spring, new growth and fertility. The word "Ostara" comes from the German mythologist Jacob Grimm (d. 1863), who said this was the Old High German name for the Easter festival. (All other languages use a variant of "Pascha," a Greek adoption of the Hebrew for Passover, for the Christian holiday.) . Grimm in his Teutonic Mythology maintained that "Ostara, Eástre, was goddess of the growing light of spring."

The English monk and historian Bede (d. 735) recorded that the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre had a festival lasting several days, and that this name was adopted in England for the Christian holiday of Easter, which falls on the Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox. The spring equinox is one of the four great solar festivals of the year. Day and night are equal, poised and balanced, but about to tip over on the side of light. The spring equinox is sacred to dawn, youth, the morning star and the east.

ostara
For Wiccans and some other Pagans, Ostara is the day when the Goddess and God (variously identified as Mother Earth and the Green Man or the Young Maiden and Sun God) join in sacred marriage. The Goddess will conceive, and give birth in nine months. The increased growth and strength of nature in the spring is due to the rising power of the Goddess and God. Although we saw the first promise of spring at Candlemas in the swelling buds, there were still nights of frost and darkness ahead. Now spring is manifest. Demeter is reunited with her daughter, Kore (the essence of spring), who has been in the Underworld for six months and the earth once again teems with life. The goddess shows herself in the blossoms, the leaves on the trees, the sprouting of the crops, the mating of birds, the birth of young animals. In the agricultural cycle, it is time for planting. We are assured that life will continue.

Pagans celebrate Ostara with various rituals celebrating fertility, nature and new growth. Egg races, egg hunts, egg eating and egg painting are common activities. A man and a woman might be chosen to act out the roles of Spring God and Goddess, playing out courtship and symbolically planting seeds. Neopagans also celebrate by eating fresh spring foods like sprouts, dandelion greens, and nettles. Some undertake a fast during this period, to clear away the toxins of the winter. Many Wiccans plant an herb garden (for later use in spells) on Ostara. Home altars might feature spring flowers, seeds, jasmine or flowery incense, and the gemstone of jasper. Also according to Jacob Grimm, the white maiden of Osterrode, was said to appear with a large batch of keys at her belt, and stride to the brook to collect water on Easter morning.  Cross buns were of course baked and eaten. The cross is symbolic of the rune Gebo and  the buns also represent the sun wheel.

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Quinquatria

300px-Head_of_MinervaIn ancient Roman religion, the Quinquatria or Quinquatrus was a festival sacred to Minerva, celebrated on the 19 March. Minerva was the ancient Roman goddess of wisdom and war. Her areas of patronage included crafts, poetry, medicine, and music. Like many of the figures of the Roman pantheon, some of Minerva's characteristics were adapted from the Greek tradition. Eventually, she became equated with Athena.

The Romans celebrated a festival for Minerva on the day of Quinquatria. This festival took place from March 19 to March 23, the fifth day after the Ides of March, widely accepted as a holiday for artisans. As the patron of the arts, Minerva's domain along with Mars included warfare, which was seen as an art-form itself. The festival was celebrated in commemoration of the birthday of Minerva and women often consulted fortune-tellers and diviners upon this day. Worship of Minerva spread along the Roman empire, as is the case in Britain, where she was conflated with the local wisdom goddess Sulis.

Watch “Megafoot” Stomp Ass As Crowd Funding Gets Underway

Crowd funding has kicked off for action-horror/sci-fi film “Megafoot”. The film has also released a ass stomping sequence clip for fans to check out. The campaign is taking place over on Indiegogo. Plus check out the wicked poster artwork promoting the film.

Megafoot-teaser-poster2The concept – based on an original idea and story by Justin Martell (Producer of Troma’s “Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volumes 1 & 2″) and with a screenplay by Rolfe Kanefsky (award-winning screenwriter/director of “There’s Nothing Out There,” “The Hazing” and “Nightmare Man”), who is also attached to direct – was to create the ultimate warrior using enhanced chemical and engineering technology.

When it was declared that the end product would be used exclusively in conjunction with the U.S. military, Colonel Hankle and his team immediately took control. A research facility in the backwoods of the American Mid-West was built, and a top-notch group of scientists was dispatched – along with some healthy, willing volunteers – to commence the operation. Alas, the human subjects proved to be incompatible with the procedure. All seemed lost… and then we made the most incredible discovery.

A new type of creature. GIGANTANTHROPUS CRYPTICUS, more commonly known as a Sasquatch, or Bigfoot. We thought it was a mere myth, a projection of Man’s fantastical imagination, but we were wrong. They exist.

Just the confirmation that these beasts inhabit this world would alone shake the foundation of Science across the globe. But we could not pass up this amazing opportunity: fate, it seemed, was smiling upon us. Our endeavors would not be wasted. These hairy mammals proved to be a far more accurate match to our program than mere humans. By combining a unique combination of Nature and Cybernetics, we will produce the most dangerous being on the planet. The quest to create the ultimate warrior shall continue. Project: MEGAFOOT.

SRS Cinema’s Fourth Entry “American Gore Stories: Shot On Video” DVD Release Details

AMERICAN GORE STORIES VOL 4: SHOT ON VIDEO ARRIVES ON DVD March 25th, 2014. Four Movies from The SOV Era of the 1980-90’s on DVD for the first time! SRS Cinema, in collaboration with MVD, is proud to present the fourth entry in their popular “American Gore Stories” series, “Shot on Video”.

americangorestoriesDuring the 1980’s and into the 1990’s, a new boom of filmmaker emerged, using consumer brand video cameras and utilizing formats such as VHS, 8mm, SVHS and Hi8mm. The features were rough, the talent behind them ranged, but all of them shared one thing in common – a true love of film making. These movies mostly circulated among the underground film fan networks, but some even cracked into stores like Best Buy, Tower and Blockbuster. But during the early 21st century, these movies were mostly forgotten. But in recent years, thanks to marquee titles like “V/H/S” that were inspired by them, old fans have started to hunt them back down while a new generation of fans have discovered and embraced them like never before. Many of them still remain unavailable on DVD, and prices for original releases on VHS have sky-rocketed on sites like Ebay and Amazon.com. Now SRS Cinema has brought four of them together for their “Shot on Video” release.

Synopsis: Four unique & original terror tales: "The Vicious Sweet" - from Ron Bonk, a popular scream queen is abducted by her "biggest" fan. "Shatter Dead; from Scooter McCrae, zombies have overrun the land of the living as one woman tries to make it home; "The Pact" - from Brad Sykes, a haunted house beckons a young woman; "Twisted Illusions" - from Tim Ritter, an anthology of sick & twisted terror tales.

Of the four titles in this set, only “Shatter Dead” has ever been released on DVD! These rare titles are good examples, despite the roughness around the edges, of SOV being done right.

“American Gore Stories: Vol 4” is available via MVD and many major retailers including Amazon.com. Street Date is 3/25/14 and the suggested retail price is just $14.95. Visit www.mvdb2b.com for more info.

My Review Of “Dracula 3D”

dracula3dDario Argento’s “Dracula 3D” sets a tone for the next generation of Argento fans that is a mildly flat sound quizzical sadness. The film was heralded as the great horror master’s return but proves to be anything more than the standard absurdity that quite frankly Dario Argento’s work has always been seen as by me. That sounds really bad  and may make me seem like a horrible horror fan but in all honestly Dario’s films have never been top shelf cinematic gold, the films have maintained a basic over-the-top, ridiculousness that seemed more tongue-in-cheek, grandeur. Which is really what I always loved about his films. If I wanted to watch serious, grounded horror I would always turn to the more mature horror styles like Fulci or America’s own John Carpenter, both of whom maintain a classic balance of dark situation with a black satirical subtext. Argento is awesome because of the simple fact that his films have always been anything but serious attempts at horror storytelling. Which is no different in his revision of “Dracula 3D”. As a kid I reacted much the same way over his classic heralded films “Trauma” and “Suspiria” with the same wide-eyed, confusion that I experienced watching “Dracula 3D”. Okay so “Dracula 3D” carried the absurdity a bit further but not by much more than is his normal amount of off-beat, illogical vision of theatrics.

“Dracula 3D” offers a blended story that seems part classic Dracula lore mixed with Hammer’s own mythos for the Prince of Darkness. There is an obvious lackadaisical approach to Dracula story that begins almost in the middle, forcing the viewer to stay focused on this particular retelling of Bram’s story. There isn’t much that is recognizable and I found myself having to remind myself that I was watching “Dracula” because there is almost nothing other than the names that resembles the classic tale and the film shows more of a Hammer Film’s influence than Bram Stoker. It is a bit cumbersome in creating an instant connection with the film and the characters but I found myself very captivated by this story that almost made for an original counter-piece. The characters fall short of actualizing into multifaceted personas  but I have always found that to be the case with Argento’s characters. The emotion and interactions to the situations his characters often face have always seemed sterile and robotic. It does very little to disconnect me completely from “Dracula 3D” much as the characters in his previous material have not keep me from getting into the films. To me this is one component that makes Dario Argento’s style so Dario Argento. Either you like his film and style or you don’t. The fact that his style of telling a story is often so overtly bad is what I like about his films.

The special effects and sound effects in “Dracula 3D” are borderline terrible. Mostly the effects, they offer more visual spectacle akin to SyFy or below B-movie quality than one would expect from Argento with this caliber of film. Plus the 3D tricks are subpar or mediocre at best. So that was a bit of a downer, even for such a liberal horror fan as I am. I personally don’t get the whole 3D schtick, wasn’t impressed with it as a kid and even with today’s new technology I still am not impressed with it. So that instant dismissal of the 3D gimmick in “Dracula 3D” has no baring in my review of this film. The special effects though is another matter. It was far too cheap to overlook. The sound effects and musical score for the film seems pretty cool, offering an expected creepy, haunting feeling that you would expect in a Dracula or film like this. For me, “Dracuala 3D” is standard Argento level story telling, take that as good or bad. This film is plenty bad and on the cultish, bad movie level there is plenty that will make the film good, at least for those of us who have no decades built delusion that Dario Argento’s work has been anything but bad, tacky awesomely fun cinema wasteland viewing. “Dracula 3D” is a film that, if you are only looking for some tongue-in-cheek, WTF film fun, you may enjoy- I did. However if you only have room for serious horror stories and films that take the Dracula material straight forward then definitely skip this film because it is more laughable than entertaining on that level-but then why would you really be watching a Dario Argento film anyway?!
