Genre Veteran Chad Ferrin Goes Under the Sea with THE DEEP ONES

Independent horror filmmaker Chad Ferrin (ParasitesThe Ghouls, Someone's Knocking at the Door) has debuted the first photos from his eighth film The Deep Ones, a Lovecraftian take on Rosemary's Baby.  A married couple rents a beachside dream home, only to be surrounded by peculiar neighbors and bizarre occurrences. They soon discover they are in the crosshairs of a mysterious cult and their ancient sea god.

The cast of The Deep Ones includes Johann Urb ("Arrow"), Gina La Piana, Robert Miano, Silvia Spross, Jackie Debatin, Nicolas Coster, Rachel Pringle, Jerry Irons, Robert Rhine, Jon Mack, Bulet Rush, Timothy Muskatell, Kelli Maroney (Chopping Mall, Night of the Comet) and Kurt Carley (the Underworld franchise, Roland Emmerich's Godzilla).

Behind the scenes, Ferrin is joined by producers Gina La Piana, Robert Miano and Jeff Olan, composer Richard Band (Re-Animator, From Beyond), director of photography Jeff Billings, makeup effects artist Jim Ojala (Deadgirl, Strange Nature) with key art by Nenad Gucunja.  The Deep Ones is executive produced by Michael Schefano, Richard Pate, Gerry Karr and Zebadiah DeVane.

"H.P. Lovecraft must be smiling down on us," Ferrin shared, "as this has been the most blessed film experience of my 25 years of doing what I love. And I thank the cast and crew from the bottom of my heart for going above and beyond all expectations."

After suffering an untimely loss, Alex (La Piana) and her husband Petri (Urb) visit California for a much-needed break from reality. At an unassuming rental, they meet the mysterious Russell Marsh (Miano). Marsh introduces them to the oddly enthusiastic locals, fixes them a lavish meal and invites them out on his luxury boat.  Little do they know that beneath Mr. Marsh's thin veneer of avuncular charm lurks a dark devotion to an archaic evil. A wickedly warped twist on the classic Cthulhu mythos, The Deep Ones is what it looks like when Rosemary's Baby undergoes the Innsmouth Transformation.

"M.O.M. (MOTHERS OF MONSTERS)" Unveils True to Life Nightmare March 13th

Indie Rights has announced the theatrical world premiere and Digital HD rollout of Tucia Lyman's hard-hitting M.O.M. (Mothers of Monsters).  Melinda Page Hamilton (Netflix's "Messiah", "How to Get Away with Murder") headlines as a troubled single mother who fears that her teenage son, played by Bailey Edwards in a star-making debut, is a duplicitous psychopath.  Desperate to know if her son is capable of murder, she begins recording him at home on a network of spy cameras.

Of the film's genesis and release, Lyman said, "I've always been intrigued by real-life horror films that use the dysfunctions of society as a vessel to explore the truth. M.O.M. is a work of narrative fiction, but much of the behavior, scenarios, and dialogue were borrowed from the journals and publications of real-life school shooters and their parents. It is a very confronting film, much like the subject matter itself, and I hope it will contribute to the national debate surrounding mental health stigma and gun violence in America."

M.O.M. (Mothers of Monsters) will open in Los Angeles for a weeklong run at the Arena Cinelounge on Friday the 13th of March, before the film premieres on Cable and Digital VOD.

A distraught mother (Hamilton) suspects her teenage son (Edwards) is plotting a school shooting, but when he slips through the cracks of the system, she is forced to take matters into her own hands. After installing an elaborate spy camera system in their home, Abbey captures a series of disturbing videos that confirm her worst fears.

Torn between a mother's unconditional love and a mother's acute intuition, Abbey caters her videos to all the other "mothers of monsters" online. Abbey's plan backfires when Jacob uses a dark family secret against her, launching both mother and son on a terrifying, and ultimately deadly, game of cat and mouse.

My Review Of Horror Short "Deep Shock"

Horror short "Deep Shock" is tribute to years of classic, cinematic Italian giallo. The film is directed by Davide Melini and stars Muireann Bird, Franscesc Pages, George Bracebridge, Lorna Larkin, Erica Prior, and Luis Fernandez de Eribe. "Deep Shock" is a short, intense thriller showcasing the beautiful psychotic of theatrical nightmare storytelling.

Sarah can't completely overcome the deaths of her grandfather and her older sister. The trauma and lack of sleep cause her to embark on a strange journey of apparitions and murders, apparently caused by her mind...

The story is a very traditional celebration of the human condition as it unravels into shocking, and Horrific terror. Very much a love letter to Dario Argento's work, the story concept most reflect "Phenomena" and "Deep Red" yet manages to be fresh and interesting. It starts out dark and chilling before resting on a classic giallo melodrama character study. But as horror goes the ending of "Deep Shock" is blood splatter filled giallo at it's best.

The horror is both visually and atmospherically exciting. The showdow play against suspenseful dreamlike sequences create a strong giallo nightmare. The cinematography blends surrealism with more traditional slasher-like visceral elements. The film is total giallo . The characters are just developed enough to relate but suspended enough out of reach to feel like intriguingly strange creatures. "Deep Shock" is 30 minutes of Italian horror at it's best. (4/5)
