"Possum" Coming To DVD This February

Press Release: A man trying to escape his past finds his past continually chasing him down in POSSUM, a chilling new horror film featuring a "quiet storm" (Olly Richards, Time Out New York) of a lead performance by Mission: Impossible's Sean Harris. The film arrives on DVD from Dark Sky Films on February 12, 2019.

Philip (Sean Harris, Mission: Impossible -Fallout & Rogue Nation, Deliver Us From Evil), a disgraced children's puppeteer, returns to his dilapidated childhood home and lecherous stepfather, Maurice (Alun Armstrong, Braveheart). Philip is intent on destroying "Possum,"a hideously malformed spider-puppet he carries with him in a brown leather case. Unfortunately, and horrifically, Possum refuses to be abandoned.

Philip's mind is flooded with painful half-memories and nightmarish visions, and when he finds himself embroiled in a local investigation surrounding a missing boy, he grows progressively unsure of what's real and what's not. All the while Possum seems to mock his suffering at every turn.

A hallucinatory venture into a truly damaged psyche, Matthew Holness' (Garth Marenghi's Darkplace) POSSUM is a twisted trip of terror where both nothing and everything is exactly as it seems.
Adding to POSSUM's eerie atmosphere is an original soundtrack by the iconic electronic research lab The Radiophonic Workshop (Doctor Who).

Andrew Todd of Birth.Movies.Death called POSSUM"a simple but overwhelmingly frightening horror story, wrapped in atmosphere so thick you could drown in it.""5 out of 5. You have never seen it's like before, nor will you again,"said DanXIII at Horror Fuel. "Holness has created a new modern horror figure for our time that could stand alongside recent scaremongers such as The Babadook,"wrote Film Inquiry's Linsey Satterthwaite.

Poster Release For "Memory: The Origins Of Alien" Documentary

A poster has been released for "Memory: The Origins Of Alien" documentary ahead of Sundance premiere.

The film will screen at the Egyptian Theatre at 9:45pm on January 24th. It is directed by Alexandre O. Philippe.

If MEMORY - THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN were only a comprehensive account of Alien’s origins — ancient myths, comic books, H.P. Lovecraft, sci-fi movies, and parasitic wasps — it would still be fascinating. But how did Alien lodge itself so indelibly into our cultural imagination? Philippe’s real interest lies in the deep resonance of myths and our collective unconscious. The strange symbiotic collaboration between Alien creators O’Bannon, Scott, and H.R. Giger suggests a greater synchronicity across history, art, and storytelling, a synchronicity that gives us the Furies, creatures of Renaissance painting, and even chest-bursting aliens.
Propelled by a pure joy of cinema (and sociology), the film is strewn with unearthed archival material, designs, and story notes. It’s safe to say you’ll never think of Alien the same way again.

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Agonalia

January 9th : Agonalia

The Agonalia took place several times a year; on January 9th, May 21, March 17 and December 11 and included sacrifices to both Janus Agonius. A ram was usually sacrificed to ensure the protection of the state.

Janus must be propitiated on the Agonal day.
The day may take its name from the girded priest
At whose blow the God's sacrifice is felled:
Always, before he stains the naked blade with hot blood,
He asks if he should, Agatne? and won't unless commanded.
Some believe that the day is called Agonal because
The sheep do not come to the altar but are driven (agantur).
Others think the ancients called this festival Agnalia,
'Of the lambs', dropping a letter from its usual place.

Or because the victim fears the knife mirrored in the water,
The day might be so called from the creature's agony?
It may also be that the day has a Greek name
From the games (agones) that were held in former times.
And in ancient speech agonia meant a sheep,
And this last reason in my judgment is the truth.
Though the meaning is uncertain, Rex Sacrorum,
Must appease the Gods with the mate of a woolly ewe.

Gifts of dates, figs and jars of honey were also offered and given along with money as gifts to friends and family.

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Koshogatsu

Today, January 7th, Japanese celebrate Koshogatsu: "Known as the "little new year", it is a Shinto rite honoring Goddess Izanami, partner of God Izanagi. They created Nature and the Kami.

While people pray for personal fortune and happiness on New Year's, koshogatsu celebrations were - and still are - all about a bountiful harvest for the upcoming year. In the center of the celebration stands the Shinto kami (deity) Toshigami, referring to a kami that visits during the New Year's holidays.

Their appearance promises a good harvest throughout the year and to honor these kami, Japanese families build special altars in their homes. Those are then often decorated with “shimekazari,” purifying laid rice straw ropes, as well as mochi in the shape of a mirror called “kagamimochi,” in addition to sake, and salt.
