New Exclusive FrightFest Poster Released For "The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot"

Sam Elliott (THE HERO, A STAR IS BORN) stars as a legendary World War II veteran who many years ago assassinated Adolf Hitler – an incredible secret that he’s frustratingly unable to share with the world. This wondrous feature debut from writer/director Robert D. Krzykowski features visual effects by Richard Yuricich (CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, BLADE RUNNER) and celebrated two-time Academy Award Winner Douglas Trumbull (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, BLADE RUNNER), who also co-produced alongside the great John Sayles (MATEWAN, EIGHT MEN OUT) and Lucky McKee (MAY, THE WOMAN). A fantastical discourse on the melancholia of old age and a singular blast of entertaining wit, THE MAN WHO KILLED HITLER AND THEN THE BIGFOOT also stars Aidan Turner (POLDARK, THE HOBBIT trilogy), Caitlin FitzGerald (Showtime’s “Masters of Sex”), and Ron Livingston (TULLY, OFFICE SPACE).

"Daughter of Dismay" To Be Filmed In September

James Quinn to Direct Most Ambitious Project to Date : First Short Film Shot on 65mm. Daughter of Dismay to be Filmed in September.

Sodom & Chimera Productions has announced principal photography of Daughter of Dismay, the latest blending of arthouse and horror from experimental filmmaker James Quinn.  Daughter of Dismay will start principal photography on September 22nd, deep in the Austrian woods.

Of his latest work, Quinn said, "After having directed several very experimental works like Flesh of the Void, The Temple of Lilith and Sulphur for Leviathan, all of which combined very raw emotions and extremely controversial themes with arthouse-heavy 16mm cinematography, mostly without clear story lines, I realized the potential of arthouse cinema.  Many people seemed to love the focus on visual filmmaking, even people who otherwise weren't interested in the extreme experimental aspects. It was for this reason that I made it my goal to create a short film that still focuses on these elegant, painting-like visuals, but does so on a much larger scale, with a very linear story and non-experimental execution, something that even the most traditional horror fans will be able to enjoy. The decision to shoot on 65mm was made to convey the most breathtaking and epic style the film could have, a style most people know from classic blockbusters, combining it with classic horror elements as well as those of gut-punch dramas."

Quinn has hired Ziryab Ben Brahem as the director of photography.  The score of the film will be created by Joseph Bishara, the mastermind behind the musical compositions of films like the Insidious series, The Conjuring 1 & 2, Annabelle 1 & 2 and Dark Skies.  The visual effects will be created by producer Justin Schenck, who has previously worked on the effects of Swordfish and the cult TV series "The Exorcist".

Daughter of Dismay tells the surreal and mystical tale of an emotionally broken witch. She enters the darkness of the woods to fulfill her biggest desire, for which she takes extreme and radical measures that will have sinister consequences. Portrayed in elegant painting-like, the film is an epic, moving and emotional trip through a world of witchcraft and occultism, leading to a heartbreaking and melancholic finale.

Daughter of Dismay will premiere on the film festival circuit in 2019.

The Psychology Of Creating Horror: My Interview With Director Lou Simon

Lou Simon's latest journey into the dark side of the human condition is a torture nightmare situation that balances shock horror with suspense. "3: An Eye For An Eye" is available now, but Simon is most notably recognized for her 2013 slasher "Hazmat". A film widely received and embraced by the horror community. She is truly a powerhouse and triple threat as Writer, Director and Producer.

"Hazmat" kicked off, what can only be described as a "true calling" experience for Lou Simon. She has gone on to release films that explore varied subgenres with horror from psychological thriller to survival horror, with "Agoraphobia" and "All Girls Weekend". Now with her latest twisted joint making its mark in the horror community I reached out to Lou Simon to talk about her career, "3: An Eye For An Eye", and her future.

ASOUTHERNLIFE: What was your inspiration for "3: An Eye For An Eye" ?
LOU SIMON: It was a convergence of different things that happened at the same time. I wanted to make a film with a very limited cast so that I would then get a chance to really work with the actors. At the same time, the actress that plays She, Aniela McGuinness, had a double mastectomy and posted the pictures on Facebook. That got the wheels turning about a rape victim who exacts revenge on her rapist who has disfigured her. (I know, only I can turn breast cancer even darker.) Aniela was supposed to star in “All Girls Weekend” when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I had promised to write a role for her as soon as she was better. So this was written around her.

ASOUTHERNLIFE:  The film takes classic revenge horror tropes and gives them a more progressive spin, while making a clear statement about mental health. Why this specific concept? ( without giving anything away- as much as possible)
LOU SIMON: Mental health is a recurring theme in my films. I took a lot of psychology in college even though I was not a psych major, because the human mind and what motivates us is something that has always fascinated me. I had to do a lot of research on the mental health issues that are portrayed in the film, and I was shocked about the fact that this is reality for some people. Life can be so much more horrific than anything our mind can make up.

ASOUTHERNLIFE: "3" does a good job at keeping the twist ending concealed until absolutely necessary. How hard was it to maintain that element of surprise going from script to film?
LOU SIMON: In a way it was a group effort. If there was a line of dialogue or something that happened that might give it away, someone in the cast or crew pointed it out. When you write something, it’s hard to see any plot holes so it’s nice when your cast and crew can feel comfortable enough to tell you that you may have missed something.

ASOUTHERNLIFE: IMDb states that law was your choice of career before finding yourself in the film industry. How far into that first project were you when you realized that "this is it- this is what I want to do for the rest of my life?
LOU SIMON: Like most lawyers I know, I went to law school because I wanted some financial security, but it was never a calling for me. I had studied creative writing in college and wanted to be a novelist. When I discovered screenwriting, I knew that this was what I was meant to do. It comes so easily to me. I wrote several scripts before I decided to make one into a film. I could live without ever directing or producing again. I like both but my only true passion is writing. I can never live without that.

ASOUTHERNLIFE: Your first feature as writer/ director, "Hazmat", garnered both critic and fan accolades, and was a hit in the horror community. What was that like- to get that affirmation?
LOU SIMON: It was amazing. “HazMat” is still the most well-received film I made, and it took me to the UK and Berlin while I was in the festival circuit. I had been through some very rough times right before I wrote that script. In fact, I was recovering from major surgery when I wrote it. It changed my life – not only professionally, but it changed my outlook about needing security and pursuing a creative life instead.

ASOUTHERNLIFE: Did you know from the beginning that you were going to make horror movies, has the horror genre always been a favorite for you?
LOU SIMON: I feel like I write suspenseful films, not necessarily horror per se. Although often horrific things happen in them. I’ve always loved suspense – being on the edge of my seat, trying to guess what’s going to happen next, or being surprised by a twist. I just watched “The Untouchables” the other day. That scene at the train station with the baby carriage. That’s one of the most well-done suspenseful scenes I’ve ever seen, and even though I know what happens, I was still tense watching it. Definitely not horror, but suspense at its finest.

ASOUTHERNLIFE: What project or projects are you working on now? (If you can talk about them at the
moment )
LOU SIMON: I am filming my segment of an all-woman-directors, horror anthology in September. It’s nice to go back into the genre after taking a year off to film a documentary about elephants in Thailand. I hope to have thedocumentary which is titled “Goodwill Ambassador – Thailand” done soon. Then, I’ll start work on a sci-fi/horror film I wrote earlier this year.

Fractured Visions Film Festival Official Selections Announced

Fractured Visions Film Festival has announced the 2018 official film selections for this year's event. Fractured Visions has also partnered with craft brewery, Crafty Devil, who have developed a special beer for festival goers to enjoy- a bloody, red ale. Tickets go on sale early September.

"Fractured Visions is proud to announce the line-up for the inaugural ‘Fractured Visions Film Festival’. Over the past 10 months the festival has been privileged to witness some of the finest examples of modern horror from across the world. But after a tough selection process with dozens of stunning submissions, the official selection for the 2018 Fractured Visions Film Festival has been made."

CHILDREN OF THE FALL (Israel) – UK Premiere – Rachel Strode, a young immigrant with a dark past, arrives in Israel during the Fall of 1973 to volunteer in a Kibbutz and to convert to Judaism. Soon, she realises that the local Kibbutz members don’t take kindly to foreigners, and the evening of Yom Kippur (the most important holiday in the Jewish faith), brings a brutal threat to her and her fellow volunteers. What began as a fun celebration of youth quickly turns into a menacing and bloody night of terror, which will give new meaning to Yom Kippur. Director Eitan Gafny delivers one of the few Israeli slasher films, and one of the most unique entries the beloved sub-genre has seen in years.

LUZ (Germany) – UK Premiere – Luz, a young cabdriver, drags herself into the brightly lit entrance of a run-down police station. A demonic entity follows her, determined to finally be close to the woman it loves. Prepare for one of the most dazzling debuts in recent years as director, Tilman Singer, delivers a bold and singular vision of horror that defies description. Luz needs to be seen to be believed.

SMALLER AND SMALLER CIRCLES (Philippines) – UK Premiere – Two Jesuit priests, Gus Saenz and Jerome Lucero, perform forensic work to solve the mystery revolving around the murders of young boys in Payatas, one of Metro Manila’s biggest slum areas. While dealing with the systematic corruption of the government, church and the elite, the two priests delve into criminal profiling, crime scene investigation and forensic analysis to solve the killings, and eventually, find the murderer. Raya Martin’s stunning film is based on the first Filipino crime novel, and stands out as one of the darkest, most visceral, thrillers in recent memory.
BOAR (Australia) – Welsh Premiere – Re-live the glory days of Ozploitation with Chris Sun’s splatter-filled creature feature, Boar! In the harsh, yet beautiful Australian outback lives a beast, an animal of staggering size, with a ruthless, driving need for blood and destruction. It cares for none, defends its territory with brutal force, and kills with a raw, animalistic savagery unlike any have seen before. Co-starring genre favourites Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects) and John Jarratt (Wolf Creek), Boar is a loving throwback to classic outback horrors like Razorback, only bigger, bloodier and nastier!
FRIENDLY BEAST (O Animal Cordial) (Brazil) – Welsh Premiere – A middle class restaurant in SĂŁo Paulo is invaded near closing time by two armed robbers. The restaurant owner, the cook, the waitress and three clients are held hostage. In what seems to be a no way-out situation, Inácio – the quiet man, the friendly and cordial chief – must find a way to defend his restaurant and customers from the burglars. Friendly Beast marks the arrival of a stunning new voice in world cinema, Gabriela Amaral. After witnessing this stunning, and brutal, film you’ll see why.
HE’S OUT THERE (USA) – Welsh Premiere – From first-time director, Quinn Lasher, comes He’s Out There. On vacation at a remote lake house, a mother and her two young daughters must fight for survival after falling into a terrifying and bizarre nightmare conceived by a masked psychopath. Starring The Handmaid’s Tale’s Yvonne Strahovski, He’s Out There is a gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller that pours on the slasher movie tropes from the 80s golden era. Masked killer? Check. Remote location? Check. Inventive and bloody deaths? Double check.
LOST IN APOCALYPSE (Mo Shi Ren Jian Dao) (China) – Welsh Premiere – A group of seemingly unrelated strangers fight their way out of a virus-infested hotel, only to find themselves in a worse place: the end of the world! Director Sky Wang delivers a rip-roaring slice of fast paced zombie mayhem with Lost in Apocalypse, a film that is sure to delight fans of recent Eastern horror extravaganza’s like South Korea’s Train to Busan. Zombie cinema is a rarity in China, so here’s your chance to witness a film that manages to offer something fresh in an otherwise rotting genre.
PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH (USA) – Welsh Premiere – All hell breaks loose when a strange force animates the puppets, up for auction at a convention, setting them on a bloody killing spree that’s motivated by an evil as old as time. Witness the re-birth of a much-loved film franchise, thanks to the writing talents of S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99). This whacky throwback offers gore-galore with a sprinkling of some of the darkest humour the genre has seen in years. It goes without saying that this is essential viewing for any horror fan.
But that’s not all! Fractured Visions believe in celebrating the films that help established the modern audience’s love for horror, so the for the festival’s first ever guest of honour, they are proud to announce that Norman J. Warren will be attendance to give a talk on his prolific career in the fright industry. The festival will be showing a double-bill of Warren’s work, including a brand-new 2K remaster of his 1978 classic, TERROR. The second feature will be Warren’s 1987 shocker, BLOODY NEW YEAR; one of the few horror films to be lensed in South Wales during the 1980s.
Fractured Visions has also selected 10 short films from around the globe, focusing on the genre's future by highlighting emergent talent.
