Horror Rocker Characula Unleashes Infectious New Single ‘Dead Light District Dolls’

DDD_final_artworkLet the old schoolers pull out their scratched 45s of "Monster Mash” and tapes and CDs of Michael Jackson's "Thriller.” This Halloween the cool kids know where the ghoulish musical fun is: with SoCal horror rocker Characula (, celebrating her favorite season with the release of her eerie but super-fun new single "Dead Light District Dolls!”

The creepishly cool track, now available on iTunes, Amazon, and other digital retailers, is currently impacting Triple AAA Radio in the U.S.  It comes off her upcoming debut album produced by Dito Godwin (No Doubt, Great White, KISS, Motley Crue).  The vinyl edition will have eight tracks—one for each leg of a spider!

As October 31 inches closer, Characula will emerge from the shadows Saturday, October 19 to perform at halftime of a roller derby game of the L.A. Derby Dolls, Southern California's premiere all-female roller derby league. The game will feature a Halloween costume contest, with the winner announced at halftime.
Characula won't be staying in the crypt long after Halloween. Earlier this year, she received her first ever Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) nomination for a blistering cover of Bad Company's "Ready For Love,” and a second nomination for the ghoulish song "Mummy Dance.”   "Mummy Dance” and its chilling music video are scheduled for release this Halloween!

She'll find out who wins at the upcoming 2013 event, set for Thursday, November 21 at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.

Cheri Anaclerio, aka Characula, unleashes the demons in her powerhouse imagination to create, in a tip of the blood-dripped cap to Frank Zappa, blistering music about monsters, sex and rock 'n roll.

An engineer by trade, Characula's inner truth has been coming to light since the fall of 2012. Before Halloween and for a few weeks after last year, her infectiously ghoulish single "Mummy Dance” snagged airplay on numerous Top 40 stations across the country. Her singles are being promoted by Howie Rosen of Howard Rosen Promotion, Inc. (

Trailer For Norwegian Adventure/Creature-Feature “Gaten Ragnorak”

Gaten RagnarokPlaying upon the old world myths that give rise to tales of dragons and even our modern day lore about such creatures as Loch Ness and Champ, (a personal assessment not associated with any description from the film), is an adventure/ creature feature called “Gaten Ragnarok”. The Norwegian film is directed by Mikkel Sandemose and follows a family of archeologists/explorers as they seek to uncover the truth behind the legendary Oseberg Viking ship. The only inscription found on the ship is the enigmatic 'man knows little' written in runes. Sigurd is sure that the Oseberg ship contains the answer to the mystery of Ragnarok, the end of days in Norse mythology.

When his friend Allan finds similar runes on a stone from the north of Norway, Sigurd becomes convinced that the runes are in fact a treasure map. Together they mount an expedition group and their adventure leads to "No man's Land" between Norway and Russia, which has been deserted for decades. Here Sigurd learns the true meaning of the runes - a secret more terrifying than he could possibly imagine.

“Gaten Ragnarok” stars Pål Sverre Hagen, Nicolai Cleve Broch, Bjørn Sundquist and Sofia Helin. The film will see a North American release thanks to Magnolia Releasing this October. Check out the full trailer below.

Trailer Released For Sci-fi Thriller “Under The Skin”

under-the-skin-scarlett-johannson“Under The Skin” is a sort of  verité that stars Scarlett Johansson as an alien trying to blend into a daily life as human. The film is a sci-fi thriller from the UK. The role has Johansson as a sort of seductress preying upon hikers in Scotland. “Under The Skin” is directed by Jonathan Glazer and has picked up some pretty mixed buzz on the festival circuit. It also stars Paul Brannigan, Jessica Mance and Joe Szula. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Faber. Check out the trailer below.

In the film, as in the novel,  the protagonist is an extraterrestrial sent to Earth by a rich corporation on her planet to pick up unwary hitchhikers. She drugs them and delivers them to her compatriots, who mutilate and fatten her victims so that they can be turned into meat—human ("vodsel") flesh is a delicacy on the aliens' barren homeworld.

New “Divergent” Featurette

DIVERGENTCheck out the new “Divergent” featurette. The sci-fi film stars hottie Theo James as well as Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet and Miles Teller. “Divergent” is directed by Neil Burger and based on the best selling novel series by author Veronica Roth. Personally I had no interest in another series about a dystopian future society (Hunger Games) but based on the promo stuff that has come out for “Divergent” , I am kind of into this one. Plus Theo James-bitches! Such a hottie- I was crushed when he left the series ‘Bedlam’.

Set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions that each represent a different virtue, teenagers have to decide if they want to stay in their faction or switch to another - for the rest of their lives. Tris Prior makes a choice that surprises everyone. Then Tris and her fellow faction-members have to live through a highly competitive initiation process to live out the choice they have made. They must undergo extreme physical and intense psychological tests, that transform them all. But Tris has a secret that she is Divergent, which means she doesn't fit into any one group. If anyone knew, it would mean a certain death. As she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, this secret might help her save the people she loves... or it might destroy her.

Trailer Released For Action Horror “Velvet Vengeance”

Velvet VengeanceThe first trailer has been released for Jeremy Campbell’s action-horror “Velvet Vengeance”. Campbell’s debut feature started last year as short film of the same name and went on to win awards at festivals. “Velvet Vengeance” has since morphed into a new genre psycho ballet blending horror, action, grindhouse and martial arts. It is a project that I have been following since last spring when I was offered a screening of the short film, learning later that a feature adaptation was in the works. “Velvet Vengeance” stars Lindsay Norman, Dani Bliss Gavit, Paula Marcenaro Solinger, Forrest Vickery, Linda King, Elisa Castillo, Cody Hofmockel and Carl “The Coach” Bailey.

“Velvet Vengence” will be making it’s world premiere at this year’s DOA Bloodbath Film Festival at the historical Texas Theatre on October 19th. The story follows a young woman who is faced with the tragic murder of her brother. The police swear that the murderer is dead but Alice can not shake the feeling that the killer is still alive. Against her friends and family's best wishes she travels to the location of her brothers murder to hunt the killer but little does she know that she is the one that is being hunted.

Check out the trailer below. It has that classic VHS feel, yet it hits on a very modern subgenre in horror-the neo-western, action-horror. The trailer has sparked the same excitement I always got when picking up my indie rentals at the video store, rushing home to watch and noting the trailers for other movies I was sure to pick up soon!

New Posters For “(Skip) Ender’s Game”

The article associated with this post has been removed. Recently I found out that Orson Scott Card is against gay rights and marriage equality. Me being very gay and obviously sharing a different believe I can't see promoting anything that would give this out-dated, bigoted piece of shit support.

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Mabon

MabonHappy Autumn Equinox or for all the Wiccans of the world- Blessed Mabon! The holiday of the autumnal equinox, Mabon, is a Pagan ritual of thanksgiving for the fruits of the earth and a recognition of the need to share them to secure the blessings of the Goddess and the God during the coming winter months. Among the sabbats, it is the second of the three Pagan harvest festivals, preceded by Lammas / Lughnasadh and followed by Samhain. Mabon is considered a time of the Mysteries. It is a time to honor Aging Deities and the Spirit World.

The name Mabon was coined by Aidan Kelly around 1970 as a reference to Mabon ap Modron, a character from Welsh mythology. the son of Modron and a member of Arthur's war band. Both he and his mother were likely deities in origin, descending from a divine mother–son pair. His name is related to the Romano-British god Maponos, whose name means "divine son"; Modron, in turn, is likely related to the Gaulish goddess Dea Matrona. He is often equated with the Demetian hero Pryderi fab Pwyll, and may be associated with the minor Arthurian character Mabon fab Mellt.

The Druids call this celebration, Mea'n Fo'mhair, and honor the The Green Man, the God of the Forest, by offering libations to trees. Offerings of ciders, wines, herbs and fertilizer are appropriate at this time. Wiccans celebrate the aging Goddess as she passes from Mother to Crone, and her consort the God as he prepares for death and re-birth. Various other names for this Lesser Wiccan Sabbat are The Second Harvest Festival, Wine Harvest, Feast of Avalon, Equinozio di Autunno (Strega), Alben Elfed (Caledonii), or Cornucopia. At this festival it is appropriate to wear all of your finery and dine and celebrate in a lavish setting. It is the drawing to and of family as we prepare for the winding down of the year at Samhain.
