Crowd Funding Starts For Practical FX Creature Feature "Moggy Creatures"

A crowd funding campaign has began on Indiegogo for practical FX Creature feature "Moggy Creatures". Creature Features, once a mainstay of the film industry and reaching their peak of imagination and execution in the 1980's, have in recent years become known as formulaic movie-by-budget investments and CGI flop-fest disappointments. Moggy Creatures is a hand-crafted film utilizing quality filmmaking techniques, from writing to execution, that serves as an injection of new life to a beloved but relegated genre.

"A couple takes in a stray cat, hoping to rebuild their marriage... only to have it spawn a litter of evil monsters."

Moggy Creatures is not only a creature feature that utilizes practical FX, but a sincere horror film.

Arriving at his luxurious estate in the dead of winter and miles from civilization, the two are quickly enchanted by the reclusive Baron’s charm. But promise of a fairy tale existence ends, as Karl's tragic secret past is revealed and his resulting madness surfaces, turning their lives into a living hell. The campaign is taking place on Indiegogo. "The Russian Bride" stars Corbin Bernsen, Oksana Orlan, and Kristina Pimenova. The film is directed by Michael S. Ojeda.

Pimenova, one of the world’s youngest supermodels (having modeled for such noted brands as Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, and Armani), will make her feature acting debut in the film. At age 9, she was dubbed “the most beautiful girl in the world” by Women Daily Magazine.
THE RUSSIAN BRIDE is partially financed, but the filmmakers are launching the crowdfunding campaign to supplement the funding and to give Pimenova’s millions of Facebook and Instagram followers a chance to see the future star in a major acting role. Perks include visits to the set and roles in the film.

Writer/director Ojeda’s supernatural horror thriller AVENGED, about a woman reincarnated as the spirit of an Apache warrior who seeks revenge on the men who brutalized her, was a critical and commercial hit, appearing in Sitges, Screamfest, and 15 other festivals before its release in 2015.

“Kristina Pimenova is a talented and beautiful young model, and with the support of fans we hope this movie is the stepping stone to a huge career as an actress,” says Ojeda. “Fans of AVENGED will love this movie too, especially the shocking climax.”

THE RUSSIAN BRIDE should be finished in mid-late 2017 for festival consideration.

Micro-budget Slasher Film Pitchfork Releases ‘Killer ’ New Behind-The-Scenes Featurette

Micro-budget slasher film Pitchfork releases behind the scenes featurette.

Glenn Douglas Packard’s well-received indie horror ‘’Pitchfork’’ officially hit VOD on Friday the 13th.

An ultra-low budget film, made with only one camera and shot in just 21 days, ‘’Pitchfork’’ has struck a chord with film fans, horror buffs and filmmaking aficionados alike.

Despite its low- budget and guerrilla-style construction, ‘’Pitchfork’’ not only looks like a multimillion dollar, big studio movie but has been covered by major Hollywood publications like The Hollywood Reporter, L.A Times, Indie Wire and Deadline.

Like “The Blair Witch Project” and “Paranormal Activity”, “Pitchfork” is further proof that you don’t need big bucks, just a big idea and lots of drive, to make a solid genre film.

Having recently shared a life-changing secret with his family, Hunter recruits his friends to come with him from New York City to the farm where he grew up as he faces his parents for the first time. As the college students enjoy the fresh air of Michigan farm country, an older, more dangerous secret slowly emerges. While Hunter navigates a new place within his conservative family, a vicious creature from their past descends on the farm, putting the unsuspecting city kids in mortal danger as they start being stalked by a twisted, dark, and disturbing beast, Pitchfork.

‘’Pitchfork’’ is co-written, directed and produced by Emmy award nominee Glenn Douglas Packard, Director of Photography Rey Gutierrez. Producers Darryl F. Gariglio (executive/co-written) Shaun Cairo (associate) & Noreen Marriott.

Meeting the family for the first time, Ryan Emerson (Schmidt) must prove his intentions with the Thomas' daughter, Sarah (Tudor), and win the approval of her father, Greg (O'Brien), while he masks his jealousy for Sarah's ex-fling,
Tyler (Eaton). As the Thomas family settles in, things start to happen around the cabin; strange footprints by the windows, noises from outside, and a bitter animosity from the locals, including the law enforcement.
As a blizzard descends on Lake Alice, so does the evil from behind the camera, as the Thomas family is hunted down one by one. The family struggles to stay alive as their power in numbers slowly dwindles.
With elements from Psycho, Scream, and The Strangers, the macabre labyrinth of Lake Alice will tingle your soul, and make you wonder who’s really climbing down your chimney this Christmas!

My Review Of "Don't Fuck In The Woods"

Shawn Burkett's creature campfire nightmare  "Don't Fuck In The Woods" is an indie celebration of modern classic horror. The film stars Brandy Mason, Scott Gillespie, and Brittany Blanton. As a low budget,  indie film fan, "Don't Fuck In The Woods" is one that I have been excited about since it was first mentioned as a project a few years back.

Synopsis: A group of friends head out into the wilderness for some campfire fun. As the gratuitous pleasure begins so does the carnage. The friends are taken out one by one when man versus wild proves deadly.

"Don't Fuck In The Woods" held high expectations for me, a strong attention getting title, fun classic premise, and indie freedom of production begged to be noticed. The film falters somewhat with rough dialog delivery from most of the film's cast, and an almost aimless since of direction. The characters struggled to really come alive. A larger push for cohesion between the cast and story should have been inforced.

The effects and gore where somewhat disappointing. Most of the slaughter happens off screen and what little that does fall on the camera's eye is barely teasing of its gory nature. The sound track and creature design were, however, very pleasing to me. I enjoyed the "Feast" like monster and animalistic cruelty of the thing stalking the woods.

Overall "Don't Fuck In The Woods" does little to excite considering the powerfull impression driven home by the title. I will say that the final girl was commanding and impressive as a strong female lead, the creature and the mysterious nature of it all is cool, and the movie didn't totally suck. There are a few good highlights in "Don't Fuck In The Woods". Don't go into this one expecting anything major. Just kill some time with a low budget creature feature from a cool indie company,  Concept Media.

Chad Ferrin's "Parasites" Debuts On VOD Today

Chad Ferrin's Parasites Debuts on VOD from 108 Media
Indie Nightmare Follows a Murderous Band Through DTLA
Rent or Own the Festival Hit on Digital HD Today!

Chad Ferrin's harrowing festival favorite Parasites will be available to rent or own in the US and Canada starting Today - January 24th on iTunes, Amazon Instant, Google Play, Vudu and Xbox from 108 Media.  Veteran genre director Ferrin (Someone's Knocking at the Door, Horse) presents one long night on Skid Row as a sadistic reimagining of the true story of John Colter and his flight from the Blackfoot Indians.

Since the world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival, Parasites has made audiences and critics scream, earning rave reviews for being both terrifying and thought-provoking.  Dread Central hailed the film at Fantasia, praising the "white-knuckled tension and action that holds its ground."  Parasites has gone on to screen at a number of festivals, including HorrorHound, Shriekfest, STUFF MX, the New York City Horror Film Festival, Zinema Zombie Fest and more.

Genre vet Robert Miano (Donnie Brasco) headlines as Wilco, the leader of a band of bloodthirsty vagrants who rule the underpasses and alleyways of downtown LA.  When he and his men come across a trio of lost college boys (centered around newcomer Sean Samuels), all hell breaks loose.

The industrial barbarianism of downtown Los Angeles is equal parts player and punisher in this survive-at-all-costs tale of a group of friends who get lost in the seedy streets where they encounter a crazed gang of homeless derelicts that captures and maims them one-by-one.  One lucky man escapes on foot, naked and unarmed, with a pack of depraved transients in pursuit, staying only seconds ahead. Clinging to sanity and reduced to helpless prey, with only instinct to guide him, can he survive this coliseum of horror?
