Beyond Here Lies Nothing By Gary McMahon

Book Worth Reading:
Beyond Here Lies Nothing is the third in The Concrete Grove Trilogy.

Marc Price arrives in the Concrete grove to research a book about the “Northumbrian Poltergeist,” an infamous case from the 1970s: twins haunted by a spirit they nicknamed Captain Clickety. The media of the time were split between derision and hysteria. As Ben teases out the suppressed details of the story, he finds himself drawn to a woman whose young daughter went missing years ago during a spate of child abductions. He also finds himself investigated by a local policeman, whose private life seems tied up with events in the grove, and harassed by the father of the missing child.

Then the scarecrows appear, their heads plastered with photographs of the long-missing and the dead.
Hummingbirds flock to certain areas of the estate, as if awaiting the arrival of something... a door has been opened and a presence is about to step through. It is up to Marc to put the ghosts to rest and unravel fact from fiction. He is about to discover that the story he seeks is his own, and only he can plot the ending.

New Adaptation To Stephen King’s “It”

Now when I read the book there is only one thing that described the experience for me. Scary as hell! I was 18 when I read it so old enough to know it was a fictional story and yet it scared me good. Love the book. I have since read it like 8 times and every I fear for those kids lives and stress over the shit they go through when they reunite. However the television thing was crap! Plain out should not have been done mainly because it was watered down too much.

Well now there is a new adaptation to Stephen King’s Evil Alien disguised as a twisted clown. “It” will be made into a two movie story to be directed by Cary Fukunaga. The film will be produced by Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg.

“The story follows a group of kids called the Losers Club that encounter a creature called It, which preys on children and whose favorite form is that of a sadistic clown called Pennywise. When the creature resurfaces, the kids are called upon to regroup again, this time as adults, even though they have no memory of the first battle.”

Man-I hope they do this bad boy right this time!

Gathered Dust And Others W.H. Pugmire

Book Worth Reading:

With his first collection from Dark Regions Press, W. H. Pugmire continues his radical and obsessive reinterpretations of H. P. Lovecraft's brilliant fiction. Among the book's original pieces is the title story, "Gathered Dust," a sequel to J. Vernon Shea's "The Haunter of the Graveyard." Set in Arkham, this tale of utter strangeness concerns the legacy of Randolph Carter and a monstrous burying ground where the phantoms of the past linger so as to feed upon the living. In "Depths of Dreams and Madness" we journey to Pugmire's Sesqua Valley, wherein we find Lovecraft's artist, Richard Upton Pickman and Robert E. Howard's mad poet, Justin Geoffrey, tainted by the valley's supernatural lunacy. With "These Deities of Rarest Air," Pugmire continues his exploration of the prose-poem/vignette sequence, in a work that deliciously evokes the mystic aura of not only Lovecraft but Clark Ashton Smith as we ll. With artful decadence and a pen dipped into the dark fin-de-siècle poetry of Oscar Wilde and Charles Baudelaire, Pugmire celebrates his beloved genre of fantastic fiction with works that only his cracked skull could conceive. Jeffrey Thomas has provided a provocative Introduction.

A Very Commanding Debut For “Dredd” Poster

JoBlo debuted the poster for the remake of Judge Dredd. The new version simply titled “Dredd” comes out on Sept. 21st. The film stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey.

"Dredd" takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring "Dredd" to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

My Review Of “Tinsel” Horror Short

“Tinsel” is one hell of a Christmas Nightmare with one hell of a creepy killer twist. Directed by Mikel Ledesma the story follows Sarah who is plagued with nightmares as a child about the Tinsel Killer. Years later the nightmare becomes real and Sarah’s brother and friends fall victim in this blood soaked slasher flick.

This is one of the coolest horror shorts with one of the best dark nightmare opening scenes I have seen in a long while. There is a seductive and disturbing energy to the film that is provided by a nice soundtrack. The special effects in “Tinsel” are as good as indie low budget horror can get. The director manages to pack a feature length gorefest into a 36 minute punch both entertaining and horror filled.
“Tinsel” has a few things that make a horror hole poker sing out. I won’t pick at the minor oddities about this film that bothered me because there was so much intensity and awesome storytelling here to keep me entertained. This is a great short film and a killer Holiday nightmare for a fan of Christmas carnage films.

Paranormal Clip From “Saturday Morning Massacre”

A cool indie flick that I have been excited about is “Saturday Morning Massacre”. This is a horror/comedy/gore flick that spins the cool Scooby style cartoon concept with a bit more wickedness and actual bloody deaths. How groovy is that! Directed by Spencer Parsons and starring Ashley Spillers, Josephine Decker, Jonny Mars, Adam Tate & Paul Gordon kicks off it’s film festival run at L.A Film Festival June 14th. Check out the cool clip IndieWire posted.

A team of amateur paranormal investigators struggle to make ends meet by debunking reports of supernatural incidents. With the group on the verge of bankruptcy, Nancy takes on a case involving rumors of suspicious disappearances and violent deaths linked with the abandoned Kyser schoolhouse. Discounting stories of satanic practices, the team proceeds, desperately chasing cash and the opportunity to encounter their lives’ mission – to catch a real ghost. On a tour guided by the local sheriff, the team learns of the schoolhouse’s gruesome past. Despite the sheriff’s advice to spend the night in a hotel, they decide to stay, set up their gear and prepare for nightfall. When the sun goes down, the truth comes out: the Kyser house might actually be haunted by sadistic spirits – or something even worse. Saturday Morning Massacre is a bloody parody of mystery cartoons and the consequences of meddling with the supernatural.

Beneath The Surface By Simon Strantzas

Book Worth Reading:

Revised and expanded, the startling debut of Simon Strantzas resurfaces with tales of dark Gods and monsters of the flesh, emissaries from a world beneath our own, a world from where nightmares are born. Here, a man searches for truth in a universe that has forsaken him and pays the price for that knowledge, and a woman with out hope travels northward to find the place where her life fell to pieces and discovers of what she truly is made. They say no man is an island, no matter how much he wishes to be, but what then is that ship that sails toward him, and what pray tell is that lashed to its bow. These are tales that infect our dreams, tales of things that live beyond our understanding and watch us with malignant indifference. They are tales of grief, of loneliness, of guilt. Tales of the liminal places that separate our world from that other world, the world to which our souls are merely a gateway. Come inside and witness what resides in us all, deep down beneath the surface.

My Review Of Action/Horror Short “Velvet Vengeance”

Director Jeremy Campbell’s low budget horror short “Velvet Vengeance” tells the story of pure family revenge. The short follows Alice on a quest to prove once and for all that her brother’s death was the result of more than one killer. After a year of visions and dreams guided by her brother’s ghost she sets out to revisit the area where he died. Accompanied by her friends a new nightmare begins that pits her against a psycho sister act with a masked axe wielding sister as the co-antagonist.

This short film manages to convey in under 27 minutes what it takes most feature films 80 minutes to accomplish. The story sets up with the classic tragedy that sees Alice’s brother and friends killed on a trip she herself was grounded from attending. Then years later searches out answers to dreams she has over a mysterious killer in a white mask. There are moments of haunting ambience as Alice holds conversations with memories of her dead brother mixed with classic characters from the slasher genre that combine perfectly in this short but gruesomely sweet short film. The flick kept a coherent stream that normally would be hard to maintain in such a short film with so much substance. “Velvet Vengeance” managed that awesomely with only minor moments where more story would have been great. Still with such a short budget – only 500.00- Jeremy Campbell manages to tell a great story that delivers the nightmare and gore with quality results.

Sweet Images From Super Low Budget Action/Horror Short Film “Velvet Vengeance”

Check out these images from the horror/short “Velvet Vengeance”. The project was filmed in only 5 days on a budget of 500.00. Directed by Jeremy Campbell.

Here is the story: A young woman is faced with the tragic murder of her brother. The police swear that the murderer is dead but Alice can not shake the feeling that the killer is still alive.  Against her friends and family's best wishes she travels to the location of her brothers murder to hunt the killer but little does she know that she is the one that is being hunted.

Below are images from the premiere showing with cast and crew. I am currently reviewing the short film and will tell everyone one what I think of this horror story. So far I like the killer a lot. Nothing like an axe wielding porcelain masked psychopath.

Scream TV Series In The Works

MTV is set to build a television franchise based on Wes Craven’s “Scream” story. Right now Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley are shepherding the project under their DiGa production company. Based on the success of “My Psycho Sweet Sixteen” movies and “Teen Wolf” series I would say this is a guaranteed hit. However I remain only cautiously optimistic.  There is no word whether Wes Craven or Kevin Williamson will be involved, right now the production duo are seeking writers to pen the pilot script.

Wolf Hunt BY Jeff Strand

Book Worth Reading:

Check out the cool hand painted werewolf head that comes with the deluxe edition of Jeff Strand’s Wolf Hunt.

Meet George and Lou, thugs for hire. The kind of intimidating-yet-friendly guys who will break your thumbs, but be nice about it.

Their latest assignment is to drive across Florida to deliver some precious cargo to a crime lord. The cargo: a man in a cage. Though Ivan seems perfectly human, they're warned that he is, in fact, a bloodthirsty werewolf.

George and Lou don't believe in the supernatural, but even if they did, it's daytime and tonight isn't the full moon. It's just a simple transport job, albeit one that carries severe consequences if they screw it up. Their instructions are straightforward: Do not open the cage. Do not reach into the cage. Do not throw anything into the cage.
And they don't. Unfortunately, Ivan doesn't play by the usual werewolf rules, and the thugs find themselves suddenly responsible for a vicious escaped beast. One who can transform at will. One who enjoys killing in human form as much as he enjoys killing as a monster.

If George and Lou want to save their careers, dozens of people, and their own lives, they need to recapture him. Because Ivan the werewolf is in the mood for a murder spree...
