"Before the Fire" World Premieres At Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival

Madfire has announced the World Premiere of Charlie Buhler’s apocalyptic thriller Before the Fire at the 2020 Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival. The film follows a Hollywood actress whose rising career is cut short when a global crisis sends her back to the small town she fled years before, only to find something more dangerous than any virus waiting for her. Before the Fire will premiere at Cinequest at 3 Below Theaters and Lounge March 7th, with three additional screenings.

Two-time SAG Award nominee Jenna Lyng Adams (“The Kominsky Method”) headlines the cast as the actress whose flight from a collapsing Los Angeles is just the beginning of her troubles. Instead of shelter, her South Dakota hometown brings her face to face with even greater peril. Adams is joined by Jackson Davis (“Vida”), Ryan Vigilant (Naked As We Came), and Charlie Buhler. Buhler makes her directorial debut and produced from a script written by Adams, who also produced.

“We fought to make this movie, because we felt that there was a very specific expectation about the types of stories women were able to tell. Male directors shift between genres much more fluidly, and I think you can feel it in the types of stories that make it to the screen. But Jenna and I both love action, we both love sci-fi, so we wanted to make a female protagonist that we women could really rally behind,” said Buhler.

“Audiences are thirsty for unconventional, layered, and imperfect women on-screen,” said Adams. “I wanted our protagonist to find her strength by facing the darkest parts of her life in the darkest hours of the world. She reinvents herself over and over again to survive.”

As a global pandemic engulfs Los Angeles, rising TV star Ava Boone is forced to flee the mounting chaos and return to her rural hometown. As she struggles to acclimate to a way of life she left behind long ago, her homecoming attracts a dangerous figure from her past- threatening both her and the family that serves as her only sanctuary.

SMALL TOWN MONSTERS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES “ON THE TRAIL OF UFOs

In 2018 Small Town Monsters (the production company behind The Mothman of Point Pleasant) ventured into episodic storytelling with the inaugural season of “On the Trail of…”; a mini-series focusing on a different paranormal phenomenon each season. While the first season centered around a lake monster called “Champ” and the second expanded to the Bigfoot subject, the third season “On the Trail of… UFOs” will investigate UFO sightings across the country. Small Town Monsters has debuted the first one-sheet for the miniseries by artist, Matt Peppler.

“On the Trail of UFOs” will debut some time in 2020 with filming beginning July 9th in Nevada. The series will feature Seth Breedlove and podcast host, Shannon Legro (Into the Fray) as they journey across the United States uncovering decades of mysterious encounters with strange objects, and seeking to find the answers to the UFO riddle. The series will film throughout much of 2019 with Utah, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Maine and more on the agenda. Various investigators, researchers and eyewitnesses will be interviewed as part of the project.

Release Date Announced For Scifi Thriller "Monster Hunter"

Paul W.S. Anderson's "Monster Hunter", based on popular video game by Capcom, will be release in theaters on September 4th, 2020. The film stars Milla Jovovich as Lt. Artemis, with Tony Jaa playing "The Hunter."  It also stars  Tip “T.I.” Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung and Ron Perlman.

New Sci-fi "STAR LEAF" Teams With NASA

The creators of the sci-fi horror film “STAR LEAF” are having a contest to promote a space launch by aerospace company RocketStar at NASA’s Cape Canaveral 39c Launch Pad in the coming weeks. The launch will be filmed by Discovery Channel Canada.

According to a recent article in Popular Mechanics, New York-based RocketStar technologies has designed a single-stage rocket capable of reaching orbital altitudes using its Aerospike engine technology. RocketStar hopes to lead the way in the new space economy, allowing anyone to put a small CubeSat Satellite into space for around $6,000.

The first launch will be a test to reach 10,000 feet in altitude. Star Leaf Enterprises is having a contest to decide what exactly should be put in the rocket as part of the test flight. Winners will receive “Star Leaf” autographed DVDs and merchandise. NASA will not allow any actual cannabis on the flight – but any item (cannabis-inspired only) under two ounces is allowed. Contest submissions can be tweeted to @starleafmovie on Twitter.

Founder and CEO of RocketStar Christopher Craddock says the technology can eventually offer cannabis entrepreneurs future “space delivery” of their products to orbiting space stations, or orbital drops anywhere in the world in 20 minutes (where legal).

Whether the ability to launch “space weed” chalks up to anything more than a publicity stunt for cannabis companies and entrepreneurs or not, it still offers the public the opportunity to reach out to the cosmos as part of a booming new space industry being led by civilian and private contractors.

The film “Star Leaf” is about an extra-terrestrial strain of marijuana that lands on earth in the distant past. The film’s producers are excited to be a part of RocketStar’s early launch testing and realize the opportunity to have “ET Weed” in real life simply can’t be missed.

“It might sound silly to some, but the idea of being able to connect a concept in the film to something tangible in real life is amazing,” says the film’s director, Richard Cranor. “Why not launch weed into space? It might prevent an invasion from an aggressive alien species. You never know.”

Creature Design Revealed For "CobraGator"

The creature design has been revealed for Roger Corman's newest monster movie creation. "CobraGator" will star Michael Madsen,  Lauren Parkinson and Paul Logan. The film will be directed by Jim Wynorski. Not much else is known about the project but the beast does look formidable. Wonder if he will face any of the other serpentine leviathans in the future, like say Mega Snake, Mega Python or even Piranhaconda?

Trailer Released For “Shark Exorcist”

Check out the trailer for blended sci-fi horror of “fintrifugal” force-“Shark Exorcist”! The film is directed by Donald Farmer and is obviously meant to capitalize on the latest CGI insanity surrounding shark horror. “Shark Exorcist” Angela Kerecz, Roni Jonah, Alaine Huntington and Bobby Kerecz. Fangoria released a teaser poster and a couple of images for the film which you can check out below the trailer.

“The Burning Dead” Sets Fire To Zombie Lore In March

“The Burning Dead” , originally titled “Volcano Zombies” , sets fire to zombie lore on March 3rd, 2015 as it hits VOD. The film is directed by Rene Perez and stars Danny Trejo, Tom Downey, Moniqua Plante, Robert F. Lyons, Nicole Cummins, Kevin Norman, Julia Lehman, Kyle T. Heffner, Tom Nagel, Adam Gregor, Jenny Lin, and Morgan Lester. Written and produced by Jeff Miller and Jason Ancona, “The Burning Dead” pits a horde of lava-filled zombies against a sheriff charged with the plight to rescue an estranged family from a volcano eruption.

Trejo plays Night Wolf, a Native American warrior who knows way too much about the curse that unearthed the coffin dodgers. “The Burning Dead” sears its way to DVD a month later, April 7th, 2015. After losing their home following a devastating loss, a father and son are forced to move to an old family cabin. Neither reacts well to being thrown into this new world. The son's attempts to relate to his father are complicated when two old friends arrive for a weekend of hunting. This trip into the forest will unearth not only buried feelings of guilt and betrayal, but also a tribe of Sasquatch that are determined to protect their land.

The Final Teaser Poster for “Other Halves” Features Manic Pixie Dream... Man

The final teaser image for Other Halves has arrived. This poster features Carson Nicely as Mike, in a very revealing role.

Other Halves, a new horror film set in the world of tech startups, begins filming in San Francisco at the end of January. The project, from One Oh One Radio Pictures, is the feature film debut for director and co-writer Matthew T. Price, and co-writer Kelly Morr.

The film stars Mercedes Manning (Strictly Sexual, Zipper) and Lauren Lakis (Hybrids, Gun Woman) as programmers who develop a revolutionary new dating app called Other Halves. On the night before the app is set to launch, they discover it causes strange side effects: users lose all self-control, becoming amoral, lascivious, violent... evil. They consider shutting the app down, but...

Evil is profitable.

Other Halves, produced by Curt Chatham, also stars Lianna Liew (Truth Or Dare), Megan Hui (The Before Time), Melanie Friedrich (Positive: Some Doors Should Remain Closed), Sam Schweikert (Hart of Dixie), and Carson Nicely (The Conan O'Brien Show).

Release Details For “Aeon: The Last Vampire On Earth”

The DVD release date has been set for March 10th, 2015 for “Aeon: The Last Vampire On Earth”. The sci-fi, philosophical flick is directed by Daniel Falicki and stars April Basile, Daniel Falicki, Chris Eddy, Joseph Charles McIntosh in what is a surprisingly suspenseful and intense film.
