Check out the promo for sensationalized retelling of a very real period in American history- The Salem that existed at the time of ignorance and persecution known as The Salem Witch trails. WGN American’s ‘Salem’ revisits that historical moment with a bit of embellishment of course, the real trails had very little to do with actual witches and more to do with intolerance and ignorance. In the series witches are a very real thing so it will be interesting to see how pagans are shown, whether cliché and offensive or as varied and individualized as any other persons of that period of time. Based on the promo I think the first may apply-witches as corruptors, whores and a plague to mankind. Only time will tell.
Set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts, SALEM explores what really fueled the town's infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. In SALEM, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem. The show, which centers on an epic romance wrapped around this explosive revelation, delivers a bold new vision of Salem -- and an even bolder new vision of witches. Janet Montgomery, Seth Gabel, Shane West, Ashley Madekwe, Xander Berkeley, Tamzin Merchant, and Elise Eberle all star in ‘Salem’.
