"Clinton Road " is directed by Steve Stanulis and Richard Grieco. The film stars Ice-T (New Jack City, "Law & Order : SVU"), James DeBello (Cabin Fever, Detroit Rock City), Vincent Pastore ("The Sopranos", Goodfellas), and Erin O'Brien (Killing Joan). It also stars Ace Young ("Bones"), Katie Morrison ("The Blacklist"), Bo Dietl ("Vinyl"), and Oscar Nominee Eric Roberts.
A widowed firefighter seeks closure after his wife goes missing on an actual haunted road in rural New Jersey but must unlock the roads secret if he wants to get out alive.
The story starts off with some clear warning signs. At first, the film hits with a promising title sequence and intro. Fast paced tease of the paranormal kind that almost sells the whole 'true events' moniker. Then within minutes it sinks into a lost St. Elmo's dive bar melodrama that totally wastes some cool celebrity talent. It seems to drag far longer than the 20- something minutes the beginning actually takes.
There are a few cool concepts happening in "Clinton Road". For one, the weekend in the woods horror trope, as overplayed as it is, is fun and creepy. Second, the paranormal and cursed location (based on a real location) peaked my interest. Unfortunately though everything is thrown into the mix in the film with no real cohesive storyline to tie it all in. Just because various people have experienced random things on Clinton Road doesn't mean you have to put all of it in the story.
The acting is hit and miss depending on character, depending on scenario. A few moments almost catch fire and create some real suspense, but I don't know, either due to writing choices or whatever scenes fall apart really quick. Not to mention that there isn't much horror in this horror movie. Just a lot of stuff happening with no clear reasoning behind the actions. Check it out if you want, but I didn't find much her to enjoy. (2/5)
