Ten Modern Tells Of Terror For This Halloween!

1. 28 Days Later (2002)
Undoubtedly one of the best modern spins on apocalyptic zombie infestations of the 21st century. Even if this film had not been such a blockbusting breakout star of the early days of horror revisionism in post Scream era cinema it would be hard pressed to fined a horror enthusiast today who did not appreciate this film!
28-days-later
Four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.

2. Wolf Creek (2005)
This film probably single handedly put my perception of Australia’s poor mental health care neck to neck with America’s. David Bowie wrote a song titled “I’m afraid of Americans” well this film made me afraid of non-American’s just a little bit more!

Stranded backpackers in remote Australia fall prey to a murderous bushman who offers to fix their car, then takes them captive.

3. The Horde (2009)
The Horde for me is one of the best zombie films ever made since George A Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead. It is gruesome and balls out hardcore bloody good horror. While watching this film you don’t even mind the subtitles or the dubbed version because the fx and cinematography is just that good.
thehorde-1
An end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies.

4. Laid To Rest (2009)
This film has introduced me to a new slasher to fear and someone become obsessed with as a horror character much the way Jason, Michael, and Freddy did in the 80’s.

A terrifying story of a young girl who wakes up in a casket with a traumatic head injury and no memory of her identity. She quickly realizes she was abducted by a Deranged Serial Murderer and in an isolated rural town she must survive the night and outsmart the technologically inclined killer who is hellbent on finishing what he started.

5. The Gates Of Hell (2010)
Just an all out good and gory slasher film that brings out the noticeable demented potential of humanity!

Five young film makers venture into the hills to
shoot their on-line horror movie. Their location is
an abandoned country mansion surrounded by an
impenetrable blue-stone wall.
The mansion has a checkered past, particularly its era as a home for unwanted babies in the 1940’s.
But that was 60 years ago and our budding film makers are now using the mansion both inside and out to film their movie and stream “the making of” to the 1000’s of fans on the web.
The camera’s roll, everything is proceeding to plan,
but when they discover their actor playing a monster, beheaded in the forest, they realize that there is evil here that makes their movie pale into insignificance.
Their escape is blocked by a new set of chains and
locks on the 20 foot high gates and as each one of
them comes to a grizzly end, we start to see the sordid truth and learn the secret behind the “The Gates of Hell".

6. Stake Land (2010)
This film is lattened with social commentary and the obvious riffs between fueding culture views. Without being preachy this film brings a new vision to vampirism and its invasion of humanity. It is a great story .

Martin was a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster. A vampire epidemic has swept across what is left of the nation's abandoned towns and cities, and it's up to Mister, a death dealing, rogue vampire hunter, to get Martin safely north to Canada, the continent's New Eden.

7. Insidious (2011)
Insidious is a glorious and terrifying story that in much the same way that American Horror Story does the same, makes you scared of your own house! A great horror film.
InsidiousALP7-11-11
A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

8. Yellow Brick Road (2010)
Another great and twisted nightmare vision that is both original and refreshing in both story and fx quality.

1940: the entire population of Friar, New Hampshire walked up a winding mountain trail, leaving everything behind. 2008: the first official expedition into the wilderness attempts to solve the mystery of the lost citizens of Friar.

9. Zombie Undead (2010)
One of the best new zombie films to come out since 28 Days Later and Resident Evil. It keeps its pace fast and furious and has plenty of gore and intensity.

A car roars through the darkened country roads. Inside, a distraught Sarah, holding her stricken dad, Mark, is desperately trying to stem the flow of blood. Having been re-directed to an Evacuation facility on the edge of town, Steve, an off-duty Paramedic is in a race against time fully aware that Marks chances of survival are rapidly slipping away. The scene that greets them on arrival is one of chaos. The floor, awash with blood, is covered with the bodies of the dying and injured, doctors dart back and forth, clearly overwhelmed. A violent convulsion causes Mark to lose consciousness, heart stopped he slumps to the floor. As the adrenalin needle slams into her Fathers heart Sarah stumbles back and her world fades to black. Upon regaining consciousness Sarah is greeted by the uneasy silence of a seemingly deserted building. Bleeding and dazed she stumbles through the darkened corridors unaware of the fate that awaits her...

10. The Loved Ones (2009)
Hands down the best modern tell of demented and twisted horror to come to America from Australia. This film finished that beginning thought that non Americans are scarier! A truly dark and delightful revision of the old notion “what Lola wants, Lola gets!”
The-Loved-Ones
When Brent turns down his classmate Lola's invitation to the prom, she concocts a wildly violent plan for revenge.
