My Review Of James Cullen Bressack’s “Hate Crime”

James Cullen Bressack’s “Hate Crime” is the story of a family on the verge. On the verge of frustrations, personal turmoil, and unfortunately for them all – on the verge of a horrific night of brutality. Starring Jody Barton, Nicholas Clark, Greg DePetro, Debbie Diesel, Tim Moran, Ian Roberts, Sloane Morgan Siegel and Maggie Wagner the film opens on the night of the youngest child’s birthday. Thinks turn sour when the family is held hostage by masked gunmen. It is a nightmare that feels ripped from the pages of today’s newspapers.

Right from the beginning “Hate Crime” is a full throttled intense nightmare that feels awkwardly realistic and brutally honest in it’s graphic depiction of some of the truest fears man could conjure. The concept of becoming victims in the sanctity of our own home out of ignorance and hatred. Violated and tormented at the hands of psychotics’ is a story all to real and James Cullen Bressack puts you at the scene of the crime with pure – cruel intent that is viciously to the point, a point made perfect. This film makes a statement and opens our eyes to how blatant and evil hatred truly is.

Currently only scheduled for future festival screening “Hate Crime” is just as the title suggests. One hour and twelve minutes of a continuous hate crime that holds on to you until the bloody and gruesome end. (On a personal note I now am fully assured to check my locks at night, just in case I wasn’t before). The story that transpires on screen feels almost unscripted. As if Bressack simply told the actors who their characters where and allowed them to run with it bringing the dialogue to a disturbing realism that is disturbingly hypnotic. Even though the acting and the action seem wild and out of control, the sheer power of the scenes unfolding make you feel every second of this film. That was as I assume the intend of the directing. Because no crime nor violent scenario is ever going to feel controlled or be inherently controllable. That is a good thing. Wild and out of control is the only way you could write or direct such a strong subject material and not come off cheesy. “Hate Crime” is a truly terrifying tale that lies in the back of all our minds when we shut our doors as the sun goes down. This is one intense and tragic and captivating film in it’s graphic gritty realness. “Hate Crime” is one to watch. A truly insane psychotic and powerful Indie movie with one equally powerful message. If you get a chance then I suggest you see this film.

My Review Of “My Bloody Valentine” 1981

PDVD_001Not wanting to be stereotypically me and go for Christmas and Halloween horror, which I tend to migrate toward, I have decided to review “My Bloody Valentine” 1981. One of those classic slasher flicks that I have seen many a time. The story follows the folklore around a mining accident in Valentine Bluffs. It happens on one of the holiday’s that quite frankly since becoming an adult I do not seem to get into. (Neither does my BF so I am good on all counts with that!).  “My Bloody Valentine” was directed by George Mihalka. Actually until the remake came out I thought most people just threw this film to the side or just forgot about it. It is a true classic horror story with the principle set ups, story line, and back story. A man left behind in an mine collapse goes insane, kills out of revenge, he becomes legend, and the legend comes to life.
There are some truly gory moments in this 80’s flick. From one victim crammed in a dryer and another being speared on a shower spout this film really makes an effort to get as gory as it’s “Friday the 13th counterparts. This film began a long line of horror flicks around holidays most of which were cut and dry. Kids do something or go some where they are told not to, have a good time then get slaughtered. For me “My Bloody Valentine” got most of the stuff you want in a horror movie right. The story was classic and dark from the legend of Harry Warden to the defiant Valentine party at the mine. The acting is par for the coarse in early 80’s horror films. The sound effects are minimal but eerie with only one real song worth mentioning “The Ballad Of Harry Warden”.

There is a lot of build up in this film with suspense and point-of-view angles as the killer spies on the town and sneaks up on the victims. There is plenty of blood and gore in the film that at times seems as graphic as you can get. Other times it seems cheap and plasticated. However there is nothing about any of the special effects in this film that did not work. Even the large human heart in the candy box looked gory enough to have an impact. This film has some things that make it annoying. It is a digitally remastered film but it seems to come from a bad master because the sound effects and over all quality is stressed and at times screechy. Much like the original “Friday The 13th” is.  IT was a period in horror when high pitched tones (much like nails on a chalkboard) were standard in horror films. It isn’t a film with a great soundtrack like Amityville Horror or Nightmare On Elm Street but then again this was before Horror was so embraced. It was just getting it’s first big wind when these films came out. That aside “My Bloody Valentine” remains one of my favorite simply because the death scenes are gory and good, I like a cheesy story with minimal acting and it is from my favorite decade of horror films. Not my favorite holiday but this is one of my all time favorite films. ***3/5***** also I did a photo blog of this film awhile back.

Two Images From “A Trick”

Shortly after the screen shot revealed the promo poster artwork for “A Trick” there is now two new images from the film directed by Michael J. Mitchell to enjoy and ponder upon. The film has one of the longest lists of producers but most of the stills and viral stuff will know doubt be released through Light Productions.  In the story “We meet Valarie as she comes toe to toe with a seemingly gentle do-gooder, but she quickly learns, there is a bit more to this “gentleman” than meets the eye.”

Check Out The DVD Cover Art For “The Bucks County Massacre”

The DVD cover art has been done for the upcoming Sept. 4th release of the horror film. Directed by Jason Sherman and starring Nikki Bell, Dan Kellmer, Zackarey Kresser, Brittany Geige the film focuses on the footage recovered from a horrific murder scene. Part Horror and part Documentary.
WARNING:
The video footage contained in this film was compiled from Bucks County Crime Scene Case File #506-V1. It contains obscene language, graphic violence, and is not intended to be viewed by children.
On Saturday, May 17th, 2008, police responded to a residence in a remote area of Bucks County, Pennsylvania for the report of a missing person. Upon their arrival, a routine investigation was performed and it was determined that the situation did not require police intervention. When the police returned the next morning to follow up, the house was immediately found to be the scene of crime.
Two video cameras were found, secured and immediately placed into evidence. Authorities contracted the assistance of a local production company to edit the footage from the cameras and construct a logical time sequence of events to be viewed within a linear framework, thus facilitating the investigation. Despite all security measures taken by the authorities, some of the footage was released by one of the editors to various viewing platforms on the internet. Following the issuance of a subpoena on said production company for the containment of all original footage, enough time had already lapsed to allow for the substantial viewings of the leaked footage.
With the permission of the Buck’s County Police Dept., the Court System, and the families of the victims, an authorized version of what occurred at the scene has been made available for public viewing. The purpose of this footage is to attempt to locate additional witnesses, identify persons of interest, and to extinguish the many erroneous rumors relating to the incident and the victims that are being perpetuated by unauthorized, incomplete and/or manipulated versions swarming the internet.
At the time of the release of the footage, the case remains unsolved and under investigation.
