Swedish Horror Comedy “American Burger” Takes Cause To Crowd Funding

americanburgerIndependent Swedish horror comedy “American Burger”  has taken it’s cause to crowd funding site Indiegogo. The film celebrates all that is American cliché in the dark satire that follows a busload of American students off on a grand Eurotrip when they discover that a hamburger meat factory isn’t exactly what they expected. “American Burger” will see a global release in May 2014. Head to the crowd funding page to check out all the cool fandomaniac rewards for supporters.

“American Burger” is directed by Bonita Drake and Johan Bromander. The film stars Liam Macdonald, Benjamin Brook, Aggy Kuk, Gabriel Freilich, Ben Thornton, Fredrik Hiller, Madeleine Borg, Lena Bengtson, Hanna Nygren, Charlie Petersson, Hjalmar Strid. The funds raised will go to see that “American Burger” gets stellar FX love and post-production finalization such as sound effects, music comp, mastering, translation, etc.

A bus load of American students, all jocks, cheerleaders and nerds, are on a culture trip in Europe when they stumble upon a mysterious Hamburger stand in the deep European woods, selling 100% American Burgers. A visit to the Burger Factory behind the stand, renders them trapped in this unknown territory, and they are about to realize that European notion of American Hamburgers is terrifyingly different from what they're used to... The road trip descends into a battle for survival as Americans are treated as cows. Who's going to end up in the slaughterhouse? Will the nerds ever get to score with the cheerleaders? Cliques are formed... Strategies are made... And in the midst of it all they learn a thing or two about friendship, survival, consumerism, horny teenage urges and, perhaps most importantly, to never visit a fast-food restaurant ever again. And the nerds somehow end up having the... Best. Summer. Ever.

My Review Of “Ghostkeepers”

ghostkeepers“Ghostkeepers” is a supernatural ghost thriller from director Anthony D.P. Mann. It stars Jennifer Verardi, Christian Pawlowski, Jenny Costanzo, Barry Yuen, Sherri Paterson, Declan Spellman and Anthony D.P. Mann and released through World Wide Multi Media. The story follows a group of horror fans and paranormal adventurers who set up a reunion between the two main actors from the fans’ favorite horror film for an internet podcast station.  When a podcast host organizes a celebration of his favourite horror classic, The House Where Evil Was Born, all hell breaks loose at Marlow House, the film's location and a property with a dark and sordid history. Enter a faded horror star, a washed-up scream queen, a local medium, and a girl with her own terrifying secrets.

“Ghostkeepers” story is a typical draw which hopes to bring the paranormal into the new age of fandom- the podcast and fandom blog world. The movie does a decent enough job to set up the story and give the characters enough to build from, however the attempt seems to fall a bit flat with this film. The acting is amateurish to the level of uncomfortable to watch. There is one actress who really stands out as a pretty believable talent-  Jennifer Verardi. Beyond her character the majority of this film’s human aspect seems less than.

The acting and melodrama seems to hint to some major chilling aspects of this ghost story but those moments seemed to vanish on screen and the drama just falls dead on the breath of the actors. The spooky thrills that should make any and all paranormal or horror films is almost non-existent in this pic so that was a bit disappointing. I found myself rewinding the disc thinking I missed the action, but that was just wishful thinking-there was almost no real action or chills to be had with “Ghostkeepers”. I was not happy with the film and it held little entertainment value for me personally.

Crowd Funding Kicks Off For “Still”

stillThe crowd funding campaign has kicked off for horror thriller “Still”. The film is considered as a unique psychological thriller inspired by such female-centric 70s films as "Images," "Season of the Witch," "Le Orme," "Neither the Sea Nor the Sand," and "Let's Scare Jessica to Death." Written and directed by Jason Coffman, shooting Fall/Winter 2013.

"Still" is the story of a young woman named Alice, who lives with her cousin and his girlfriend in Chicago. Alice finds a great new job, but one night she goes back into the office with a coworker and the two women are attacked, having seemingly stumbled upon a robbery in progress.

Alice is hospitalized, and when she wakes she discovers that she has an extraordinarily rare condition: akinetopsia, or "motion blindness." The part of her brain that processes motion has been damaged, even though the rest of her senses function normally. In addition to the difficulty of adjusting to life with a new kind of perception, Alice has to deal with threats both internal (strange dreams) and external (a strange figure following her). Why is she having these nightmares? Will she remember what really happened in the office the night of the attack? Who is following her, and why?
