James Quinn Brings Daughter of Dismay to Arrow Video FrightFest

First Short Film to Be Shown in IMAX Laser 

Debuts New Trailer and Poster Ahead of World Premiere

Sodom & Chimera Productions is honored to announce the world premiere of James Quinn's Daughter of Dismay, the first narrative short to be shown in 70mm IMAX, at the 20th year of the Arrow Video FrightFest in London.  The film, painstakingly crafted over the course of a year, is an epic, moving and emotional trip through a world of witchcraft and occultism, focused on the main character's humanity and not cliches of devil worship.

Daughter of Dismay will have its world premiere in IMAX Laser on Saturday, August 24th at 6:30 pm at the Cineworld Leicester Square, paired with the UK premiere of Jordan Rubin's feature The Drone.  Following FrightFest, the film will head to Grindfest in Bournemouth (where it will screen in 35mm), and then on to the Todd AO 70mm Festival in Germany, where it will thrill in Karlsruhe with a special 70mm Cinerama screening.  Additional screening announcements are forthcoming.

Directed by arthouse horror veteran James Quinn (Flesh of the Void, The Temple of Lilith) and produced by Justin Schenck (Swordfish, Fox's "The Exorcist"), Daughter of Dismay included behind the scenes talent including composer Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Insidious, Annabelle), Kodak award-winning director of photography Ben Brahem Ziryab (The Negative, Room for Rent), sound engineer Steve Maslow (The Empire Strikes Back, The Thing, Beetlejuice) and foley artist Martin Langenbach (The Perfume, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Goodnight Mommy). 

Daughter of Dismay tells the surreal and mystical tale of an emotionally broken witch. She enters the darkness of the woods to fulfill her biggest desire, for which she takes extreme and radical measures that will have sinister consequences. Portrayed in elegant painting-like images, the film is an epic, moving and emotional trip through a world of witchcraft and occultism, leading to a heartbreaking and melancholic finale.

New Trailer Released For "Investigation 13" : Out This September

The book opens on Krisstian de Lara’s spine-tingling Investigation 13 this fall with Uncork’d Entertainment announcing a digital and DVD release for September 10.

Screen icon Meg Foster (“Twin Peaks”, They Live) stars in director Krisstian de Lara’s mesmerizingly unnerving Investigation 13, premiering on digital and DVD this September from Uncork’d Entertainment. 

Incorporating traditional narrative story-telling, as well as numerous forms of pioneering technology, including found footage, hand-held cameras, surveillance cameras, and smart glasses, Investigation 13 is a new-age fright-fest chronicling the tale of a group of college science students investigating the urban legend of The Mole Man, an ex-patient said to still be residing within the walls of the Black Grove Asylum. When members of the group start missing, they soon learn that this myth is more real than they thought, making this 13th investigation one they will come to regret.  

From Gorilla Studios, Investigation 13 also stars Stephanie Hernandez, Patrick Flanagan, Robert Paget, William Alexander, Giordan Diaz, Jesse Ramos and Peter Aratari as ‘The Mole Man’.

Clay Smith wrote the original screenplay, Rolando Vinas and de Lara wrote the most recent version.

Indican Pictures Unleashes "6 Hot Chicks in a Warehouse" On DVD And Digital This September

6 Hot Chicks in a Warehouse from director Simon Edwards (Blaze of Glory). Shot partially in Norfolk, the film pits several attractive models against each other, for the pleasure of a demented photographer. Part action and part horror, 6 Hot Chicks in a Warehouse stars Diana Prince, of “The Last Drive In” fame. Sabine Crossen (Predator Dark Ages), Jessica Messenger (Wasteland), Jade Wallis and Emma Lock star as some of the beautiful women, forced to fight in a series of cage matches. Indican Pictures will release this exciting thriller this September, on home entertainment formats.

6 Hot Chicks in a Warehouse is a tale of revenge. Photographer Adrian (Oliver Malam)  has been humiliated by many of the female models he has worked with. Now, he has invited some of them to his studio, for one last photoshoot. But, this is not an ordinary shoot as Adrian has concocted a plan, which forces the ladies to fight against each other, behind wire fencing. Adrian’s strategy does not go as expected, however.

Indican Pictures has slated September 3rd as the film’s DVD launch. Pre-orders are available this August 6th. The film has been rated Restricted. And, with a runtime of 93 minutes, 6 Hot Chicks in a Warehouse promises lots of brutal action and gore as one man’s sick fantasy for revenge turns into a bloody, all-female fighting tournament!

My Review Of "Wicked Witches"

After being thrown out of his home by his wife for being promiscuous, Mark finds himself back at Dumpling Farm, a place of youthful memories and parties, but things aren't quite right. His old buddy Ian, who has never left the place, is possessed by a group demonic, flesh eating Witches. Using Ian and his farm, these beautiful Witches honey trap Mark and his friends to consume their souls.

"Wicked Witches" is directed by The Pickering Brothers. It is a bewitching, dark film that sees a guy's life take a bizarre left into a occult-fueled nightmare. The film stars Duncan Casey, Justin Marosa, Kitt Proudfoot, Samantha Schnitzler, Jasmin Clark, and Laura Coleman.

The film is quite perplexing, much like it's main character's situation. The main character isn't completely likable, more his mannerisms and presence. There isn't much character development that pushes him into a likable place. That being said he is very much a strong protagonist when pitted against the evil he is facing. That may have been intentional or it could have been a flaw in writing. I don't know.

For how they are written, "Wicked Witches" has a strong cast. The acting is very deliberate, it is very clear this is the direction the Pickering Brothers wanted to go. The acting is quality and there is strong character development- again- for what has been written of them. Even though most characters are surface only, and the witches are as unexplained as any nightmare gallery can be, I still fell under "Wicked Witches" spell. However I didn't realize it until the second half of the movie. 

As for the horror elements, the beginning is pretty tame, mostly melodrama, dream-like atmospheric stuff and jump scares. And just an overall mesmerizing weirdness. And again that may have been intentional, I can't say for sure. Now the second half kicks in to high gear, and all the wicked witchiness shows up. The horror is gory and violent. The blood flows in celebratorial fashion. The creature design is sweet and all the effects are practical. Check this one out for sure. (4/5)

My Review Of "3 Lives"

"3 Lives" is a suspense thriller directed by Juliane Block and stars Mhairi Calvery, Anatole Taubman, Victor Alfieri, and Tyron Ricketts. "3 Lives" is a straight forward, survival, horror with a mystery twist.

Emma wakes up to find herself trapped in an abandoned bunker. She soon realizes that there are two other victims trapped with her, Ben and Jamie, who she knows from her days in high school. Now Ben and Jamie are Emma’s only means of escape from their savage captors, three ex-soldiers. Faced with the choice to stay in the bunker or to escape her kidnappers with the help of her former rapist and his old friend, Emma chooses the latter.
 
Ruthlessly the ex-soldiers chase the group through the wilderness. While Emma tries to find out why Ben, Jamie, and herself have been kidnapped in the first place. Slowly matters start to spin out of control, facades start to crack and Emma has to learn who her real enemy is.   

"3 Lives" is an intense character driven thriller that explores both the primitive desire to survive and the more sinister intent of revenge. The story is creative, even though it's premise is recognizable, and classic. Characters involved in a violent sex crime thrown into a situation requiring them to help one another while not trusting anyone. It is a smart way to attack a harsh, cruel reality in society. (No spoilers)

The characters are richly developed, even though they are stereotypical tropes. The cast envelope these tragic souls with total conviction, and believability. The drama moves in pace with the action, which starts right out the gate. There are moments when the story almost seems erratic, but so is the situation and the characters state of mind. It just adds to the suspense and thriller aspect. 

The only real downside I had was the lack of death and a need for a more violent drive in the onscreen action. What we do get is done well in relation to the story. It made sense to how the story ends, plus it lends a cathartic moment for the main character. Still I would have liked to see a bit more death earlier in the film.

Overall, "3 Lives" is a smart, intense indie thriller. It won't appeal to the "thrill kill kids" but there is such a potent story, and plenty of melodrama permiating atmospherically. The cinematography is excellent. Check this one out, definitely. (3.5/5)

My Review Of "Tales Of Frankenstein"

"Tales Of Frankenstein" is an indie anthology of four stories inspired by the classic Mary Shelley Frankenstein story. It is written, directed and produced by Don Glut. The film stars Mel Novak (Bruce Lee's Game Of Death). Ann  Robinson (War Of The Worlds)l Beverly Wasburn (Spider Baby), Jerry Lacy (Dark Shadows), Robert Axelrod (Power Rangers), Douglas Tait (Hell Boy), Jim Tavare (Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkaban), T.J Storm (Punisher: War Zone) and Len Wein.

The film's stories consist of "My Creation, My Beloved” - a descendant of Victor Frankenstein attempts to create the perfect man and woman. “Crawler from the Grave” -  another Frankenstein descendant returns from the grave in the most unexpected way. "Madhouse of Death” - A private detective ends up in an old, dark house where a scientist is working on a very strange experiment. “Dr. Karnstein’s Creation” - A mad scientist creates a monster that is a hybrid of Frankenstein’s creature and the Vampire monster.

"My Creation, My Beloved" moves a bit slow, but it stays true to the original Frankenstein asthetic, and often shows a homage to the Hammer Film era. The cinematography and locations are atmospheric and a nice marker for what a classic horror fan wants. Although the story seems slightly unoriginal, it does give us a fun, alternative ending to the Frankenstein tale. 

"Crawler From The Grave" moves a bit away from the more classic tale, but still manages to honor Shelley's characters. It does venture into more paranormal area with the cursed ring worn by Frankenstein. A more original tale, I thought it was interesting but I felt the absence of the monster making was crippling the entertainment value.

"Madhouse Of Death" was my least favorite of the four stories. It ventured too far to really show recognizable Frankenstein homage. On its own though, the concept and story choices are interesting and worthy. A total nod to late 30's and 40's horror noir, like The Monster Walks and The Return Of Doctor X. I just didn't get any real connection to Mary Shelley from this one. And there is a lot of cultural insensitivity in the film with a few characters, I know it is unintentionally present.

"Dr. Karstein's Creation" is a revisioning of the classic Frankenstein tale, and among the strongest of the four stories. There is an air of misogny that weighs on the entertainment value, but the story on a whole returns to a truer interpretation of the Shelley story and has some nice visual asthetics and creature design. 

Overall "Tales Of Frankenstein" is a decent indie anthology that tries real hard to celebrate Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. It has its good moments and bad moments. The stories may not be original but Gluts' choices and perspective is. Low-budget indie fans will find plenty to like about this movie, however thriller and popcorn horror fans may be disappointed.
