'Fallen Skies' Spielberg's TNT Sci-fi show

  It’s set to debut on the basic cable net in 2011. It will follow human resistance fighters led by Wylie as they hide out int he mountains and strike back at the invaders in the aftermath of a successful alien invasion that nearly wipes out the human population.

'True Blood' Casting News

Deadline Hollywood has reported that the new regular role on the HBO vampire series for next season went to veteran Irish theater actress and director Fiona Shaw who is probably best known in the U.S. for her role as Aunt Petunia in the Harry Potter movies. On True Blood, she will play Marnie, a mousy, timid and secretly self loathing storefront medium and palm reader who is taken over by the spirit of a powerful witch. The character was originally envisioned younger but is being adjusted for Shaw. Shaw is currently onstage at Dublin's Abbey Theatre in a limited engagement of Henrik Ibsen's John Gabriel Borkman opposite Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan. On U.S. television, she previously co-starred on ABC's limited series Empire.

When Sheldon Delany was a small child, he witnessed the horrible, gruesome murder of his parents. After undergoing therapy, he returned home and vowed never to set foot outside the house again. He works as a telephone solicitor and conducts all his other interactions with the outside world via Evan, a neighborhood boy who's deaf and has no other friends. Sheldon is so afraid to step outside his door that he has Evan bring his mail in for him.

But then, everything changes when a motorcycle parade roars through town for what turns out to not to be a festive occasion, but rather a horrible day of carnage for the town. The adults are mysteriously incited to horrific acts of murderous violence, and the parade itself kidnaps the children-including Evan. And so Sheldon, having escaped the killing frenzy, must leave his house and set out to rescue his friend-all the while learning a few things about himself as well.

The book is a slim volume, weighing in at 124 pages. But it really doesn't need more than that. The story is inventive and moves right along, very confidently, without any excess baggage. The main characters are engaging--and, in fact, the focus of the story isn't on the horror elements so much as Sheldon's ability to find the courage to overcome his own fears and step out into what would be a frightening world for anyone.

"Apollo 18" News

Trevor Caewood is directing Apollo 18, and that 3 Arts/CAA client Brian Miller wrote the script. The Weinstein Company won a bidding battle that went past Friday night and into the wee hours of Saturday morning for Apollo 18, an extraterrestrial  film that is being creatively spearheaded by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. The picture, which is well into production and will be released March 4, 2011.

Harvey and Bob Weinstein bought worldwide rights to the film, agreeing to fully finance the picture. Bob Weinstein met several times with Bekmambetov before making a deal that came after Bekmambetov presented film footage purported to have been shot by the crew of Apollo 18. That  moon mission from the early 70s was officially canceled by NASA, but according to urban legend, it actually happened.

Who is directing "Pride Prejudice and Zombies"

The Los Angeles Times reported that Mike White was looking like a top contender to take over the reins of Lionsgate's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, while a studio source said that Matt Reeves was looking more unlikely. A subsequent report from the LAT, however, says that Neil Marshall is now neck-and-neck in the race with White. Further, says the paper, there's yet another new name in the mix.

The other director being considered, according to LAT sources, is Jeffrey Blitz, the filmmaker of acclaimed documentary Spellbound and the Anna Kendrick coming-of-age movie Rocket Science. 
Per the LAT:

“The job has proved a tricky one for studio Lionsgate and producer Darko Entertainment, which is run by cult director Richard Kelly -- it requires a filmmaker who can adroitly handle comedy, genre and period conventions.”

David O. Russell had been on board to direct the movie but shifted gears a couple of weeks ago.

There's also still the question of cast. Those familiar with the project say Scarlett Johansson, who had previously been reported as in, won't star in the film. Bradley Cooper is still on board as Darcy, say the LAT sources, but the choice of the director could influence his decision too.

Other casting names tossed around, according to The Playlist, include Mia Wasikowska, Tilda Swinton and Catherine O'Hara.

Lionsgate says a choice is expected soon.
