New Character Posters For “300: Rise Of An Empire”

Check out the newest character posters for “300: Rise Of An Empire”. The film is a follow up to the smash graphic novel influenced live action hit “300” and based on the comic Xerxes. “Rise Of An Empire” focuses on  the Persian Army under the command of Xerxes marching north towards the major Greek city-states, after their victory over Leonidas.

The Democratic city of Athens, first on the path of Xerxes' army, bases its strength on its fleet, led by admiral Themistocles. Themistocles is forced to an unwilling alliance with the traditional rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta whose might lies with its superior infantry troops. But Xerxes still reigns supreme in numbers over sea and land.

“300: Rise Of An Empire” is directed by Noam Murro and stars Eva Green, Jack O'Connell, Rodrigo Santoro, Sullivan Stapleton. This one doesn’t hit theatres till March 7th 2014.

Faster Than A Speeding Bat-Mobile! Crime Fighting Duo Hitting Big Screen

BatmanWarner Bros. Pictures announced today that a tentpole feature film uniting Batman and Superman can be expected in 2015. This announcement comes in no small part to seeing Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder’s success at the box office which has sent DC live action material soaring higher than the Bat-Signal and with the exhilaration  of the Man Of Steel rushing to aid a damsel in distress.

Zack Snyder is slated to direct with Cavill returning as the Man of Steel as well as fellow cast members Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane.

In a statement about the news Snyder exclaimed his excitement stating  “[…I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter,” Snyder said in a statement. “Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”  He also made clear his enthusiasm to see Cavill’s return to the role. Snyder will write the screen play with David Goyer (Man Of Steel).

“Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere. All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack’s continuing vision for the DC Universe,” said DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson in a separate statement.

So really the only big question is WHO WILL BE OUR NEW BATMAN? Once again I have to give my vote to Sam Witwer or Sam Worthington…

Cobie Smulders To Reprise Avenger Role On ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.”

shieldlogoCheck out the first photo of Cobie Smulders as her Avenger character on ABC’s Marvel comic TV series ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.” .  The news was announced by EW.com who posted the photo of Smulders. The ‘How I Met Your Mother’ star appears in the very first episode, re-teaming her with Clark Gregg’s resurrected Agent Coulson, in a pilot that’s been kept under wraps by the network.

“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS SHIELD,” says the pilot’s writer-director Joss Whedon in a statement to EW. “She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”

Cobie Smulders played the role of Agent Maria Hill in the 2012 film and will show up in episodes from time to time in the premiere season of the television spin-off with plans to become a full time cast member if the show is picked up for a second season. I know it is a show time that is marked on my calendar and one that I am anxious to check out. The pilot episode lands on September 24th. ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.” is one of the most buzzed and highly anticipated new series to come along since ‘The Walking Dead’.

A Network Of Horror: My Recent Talk With Brian Dorton About “The Horror Network Vol.1” Anthology

Back at the beginning of this month I mentioned the first official poster being revealed for Brian Dorton and reel Epic Entertainment’s horror anthology “The Horror Network Vol. 1”. It was a project that Brian announced shortly after his trashtastic satire anthology “Trashology” was complete. After an extensive search for up-and-coming indie directors through a contest, which harvested over 150 short films from all over, Brian found the 5 films from very talented directors. All are award-winning short films that offer an eclectic arrangement of terrorific tales.

“The Horror Network Vol. 1” will be released later this year, just in time for the holiday season-as Brian told me when in a recent chat about the project. The short films consist of "Edward" by Joseph Graham; Manuel MarĂn; "Dollface" by Colin Campbell; "The Quiet" by Lee Matthews and Brian Dorton’s own “Our Love Is Fading”. The project is one that Dorton and reel Epic Entertainment are very excited about as it showcases some of the newest indie talent in the Horror community. We not only talked about “The Horror Network Vol. 1” and his own delight over the quality of the project but Dorton also was kind enough to us an update on a couple of his other projects as well. Read my interview with the talented Louisville, Kentucky director and check out “The Horror Network Vol.1” on Facebook to keep up-to-date with the film.

ASouthernLife: When did the idea come to you for an anthology?
Brian Dorton: About a year ago I began networking with a few filmmakers, and we began to talk about doing something together. With anthologies becoming so popular, (ABC's of Death & V/H/S), I thought I would hand pick some newer horror shorts. I initially did a contest but got well over 100 bad shorts. That is when I went on the search. What I found is amazing.

ASouthernLife: Going into the project what was the concept or feel of the film that you were going for?
Brian Dorton: Good question because they do all have a nice flow. They are all dark, well acted, the cinematography is beautiful. Mind you I watched over 150 shorts to find these. I'm so proud of this project.

ASouthernLife: Wow 150 shorts! So will any of those make it into Vol. 2 ?
Brian Dorton: No, I will start new with Vol. 2 in a year or two. I have 2 projects I hold dear to my heart that I wanna do first. All these shorts are award winning except the final one, which will be debuted in this anthology. It is a never before seen short film.

ASouthernLife: The other two projects-That is “Crazy Fat Ethel” and what else?
Brian Dorton: Right. And a comedy called "Preexisting Conditions" which will have several characters from "Trashology" returning. A kinda/sorta sequel I call it.

ASouthernLife: So as far as “Crazy Fat Ethel”, how is everything going with that project? I read illness has put the film on hold.
Brian Dorton: Sadly the illness resulted in an untimely passing of a dear friend. He was also our investor.

ASouthernLife: My condolences, I hate to hear that....
Brian Dorton: Thank you

ASouthernLife: Going back to ‘The Horror Network Vol. 1”, Who designed the first poster? It has a giallo look to it.
Brian Dorton: Douglas and I, it is actually a still from the film. [“Conner”]

ASouthernLife: It looks great! So when is “The Horror Network Vol. 1” expected to be released?
Brian Dorton: Thank you, It will be released at the end of the year. Just in time for the holidays!

ASouthernLife: Thank you so much for your time.
Brian Dorton: You're welcome.
