My Review Of “Ghost Hunt: Paranormal Encounter At Burlington County Prison" Documentary

“Ghost Hunt: Paranormal Encounters At Burlington County Prison” is a documentary that follows a group of amateur investigators on their first research mission to the Burlington County Prison in New Jersey. The documentary is an attempt to record the presence of ghosts at the institution that remained open until the 1960’s. It has been reported that several spirits of executed inmates as well as some who where killed during more unsettling times in the prison’s history still roam the place. The team is headed by director and lead researcher Dan Marro who gathers several of his friends, packs up some gear and goes in search of the supernatural for the very first time.

This documentary has a few moments of intrigue when it comes to actually recording possible paranormal activity. Plus the site is an interesting location to ghost hunt. It is now a museum and in the summer they have a movie series where they show horror films which quite frankly would have made this documentary a bit more interesting had they added that in as some current biography for the place. For me this was only interesting in the way watching a basic film of historical buildings history. The set up felt a bit disorganized and felt a little rushed. However it is an amateur team and this was their first experience so I am sure they have worked out the few issues that got in the way of this ghost hunt. For starters they didn’t really secure the areas surrounding the hot spots to make sure that no man made contaminations got into the evidence. There was no base of operations for some one to gracefully guide the crew through the facility so that everyone could be accounted for so as not to create any questionable interference with the objective. It just felt a bit too amateurish to me.

Even though I was not completely overwhelmed by this documentary as I was with other paranormal investigations that I have seen there was an element of interest held as I watched the team explore this very old and somewhat creepy location with complete enthusiasm and passion. They had all the right components for a good ghost hunt but they just didn’t seem to be organized. Something was recorded during the filming that does make you wonder whether or not paranormal activity is present at the prison but not as much as one would like to see. Ghosts do what they want not what we want. Just seemed like a place with the hype of being as haunted as Burlington suggests you would think the paranormal would have been more active. However I have watched several series from start to finish that do this same ghost hunting and was less in pressed than I was with this documentary. Really it is all down to the individual, if the paranormal is your favorite obsession then this documentary will go well in your collection, but if you need the thrills and suspense then you will be disappointed. However keep an eye out for Dan Marro’s paranormal team in the future for I am sure that with his passion and love for the paranormal his abilities to find more convincing evidence is inevitable.

Wes Ball To Direct “The Maze Runner”

Back in 2010 Catherine Hardwicke had been picked to direct the film adaptation to Dashner’s young-adult novel series The Maze Runner for Fox. Apparently she has gone on to other projects and Fox has brought in newcomer Wes Ball to helm the project. Ball gained internet fame after his short film “Ruin” collected close to five million hits. “The Maze Runner” brings us a world where young people are set to a place known as the Glades and struggle to find their way through a labyrinth full of creatures that are half animal and half killing machine known as the Grievers.

Synopsis:
When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.
Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

6. Secret Window (2004)

Based on a story by Stephen King, “Secret Window” is one adaptation of his work that got it right. Johnny Depp truly delivers on psychotic performance as Mort Rainey. Not to give the whole plot away for future serials of psychosis I will just say that sometimes one must get all up in the minds to end break that block. In this case it is writers block which Rainey is finally free from as he writes one hell of a novel that carries just a little more than his blood, sweat and tears. It also demands his sanity- or insanity in this case.

5. Black Swan (2010)

Who knew that ballet could be so intense? “Black Swan” shows just how intense it can be to win that coveted role as “the swan queen”. For Natalie Portman it was maybe too intense for her own sanity. As she fights to keep up her “A” game as the lead Nina Sayers also fights keep from going crazy. Poor poor Nina it truly was a loosing battle for her as the role twists her into one truly crazy loon. To play the swan queen one must become the swan queen. In Nina’s case it became a literal transformation into the role a true psychotic.

4. American Psycho (2000)

“American Psycho” gives us Christian Bale as one truly fucked up and yet some pretty together psychopath. He plays a man with everything, everything that is except his sanity. He has the career he wanted, the money, the clothes and the body. He also has narcissistic and antisocial tendencies that are expressed through homicidal impulses. Apparently the pressures of having it all and being on top can really do some major mental damage. This guy may look together but that boy ain’t right. Just proves what I have always said-“that reflection may shine pretty but it is only hidden the cracks”!

3. “The Shining” (1980)

Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance in this film, as another adaptation of Mr. King’s work that got it write. “The Shining” gives us the delightful delusions of a struggling writer who takes up a job caring for one hell of a resort. Sadly for ole’ Jackie the isolated opportunity that writers crave does nothing for his goals nor his family. However if he set out to explore his delusional and homicidal rage as he isolates himself from reality then – goal achieved! This is truly one evil evolution from family man to family maniac. All work and no play makes Jackie a dull boy! Redrum muthah-fuckah!



2. Mr. Brooks (2007)

“Mr. Brooks” shines a dark light on a truly evil character – the corporate leader! A man sitting on top of the world admired by all as a god of commerce literally squishing the tiny little heads of the ants around him. A true psychotic who has been watched closely but an admirer who wants to learn from the master. Not how to be a successful business man but how to be a psychotically methodical killer. Mr. Brooks is an apex maniac who soon has to prove why he is the master of all thinks psychopathic.

1. Peeping Tom (1960)

“Peeping Tom” is truly a psychotic classic. The film follows a young director obsessed with getting that perfect shot and capturing the pure beauty and simplicity of that final scene. Of coarse that final scene that he captures is of him instilling fear in his victims just as he moves in for the kill. What better cinematic ambition could there be! Hey but it isn’t his fault that he is a homicidal maniac, his daddy made him do it. Poor Mark was raised as a lab rat in his farther psychological quest to study fear and the nervous system based on various catalysts. This film just proves that insanity is truly a hallmark moment and it is only a snuff film if you don’t have quality production!

So here are the first six psychotic flicks to to feed your maniacal minds. What do all these have in common besides expressing the beauty of the deliciously deranged? They show just how far one can go as they claw and scratch their way to the top of the human pile to achieve their glorious goals. They prove that ambition and the right path to ones future can truly be a pathway to madness where even those few who seem to have it all paved their way with blood, sweat and tears – of their victims of coarse- but they paid with their sanity. Now go make your Saturday a truly Psychotic Saturday!

New Teaser Poster For “Man On The Roof”

Earlier a new teaser poster was revealed for Mikel Ledesma’s “Man On The Roof”. Here is a more elaborate teaser poster for the Indie flick that deals with a group of friends being terrorized by a psychotic lurking on the roof. The film is scheduled for a 2013 release. Check Out The Teaser Trailer For “Bludgeon”

Okay, I can’t believe that I am just now seeing this considering the trailer has been online since June but check out the teaser for Shawn Burkett’s “Bludgeon”. The film is scheduled for release this fall and comes courtesy of Concept Media Films. This is not the only interesting project from Shawn in the works, he also has the short film “Panty Raid” which will be part of the anthology series “Theatre Of The Deranged 2”.  “Bludgeon” is a different beast all together. The film brings terror to a small Ohio community where after a series of brutal murders which end abruptly in 1992, leaves a community scarred. Fears rise once more as the killings begin again sending the police department in a panic to solve the cold case as a fresh body count begins to rise. The story comes from a script written by Burkett and I feel this teaser just barely touches on the nightmare that will be “Bludgeon”. Check out the teaser below.

“Slasher” 3D is a action/horror film that will be shot entirely in 3D. The film is being Produced by Blood Worx Films and Balance Pictures, that shoots this fall in Baton Rouge Louisiana.Right now you can audition for the film online in an ongoing casting call on Youtube. The plot details are hush-hush but there is plenty to keep you intrigued in this unique film with a truly fan friendly motive. That motive is to make one kick as film that is more than just horror and more than just action. And in 3D! Currently in the final stages of Financing and we have begun casting! Oh and what can be more fun than auditioning for this flick? How about watching all the others who have posted their own audition video.
