Poster Tease Released For “The Darkside”

A teaser poster for the horror anthology “The Darkside” has been released. The film is a documentary/thriller from filmmaker Warwick Thornton exploring poignant tales of the paranormal from around Australia. The project will recreate these ghost tales by utilizing actors to visualize and illuminate the other side, the supernatural world hidden in the shadows behind the light. Told in  honest, matter-of-fact accounts dealing with indigenous stories about spirits, demons and entities that have been apart of Aboriginal Australians life for millennia.

“The Darkside” exploration of storytelling, THE OTHERSIDE project will create a living archive of Indigenous ghost stories – it will be a place where people can share their stories about their own encounters with the afterlife. Through an online hub, the project provides a creative space for storytellers to share their words, seek new collaborations, and further our indigenous heritage in storytelling.

This is a very interesting project and sounds like one that will challenge my negative views on documentary, reenactments using actors and scripted dramas. I find them annoying, considering them more of a mockumentary style than actual documentary. This project may prove the one light in that shadowy representation that forces me to like the reenacted events portion of modern documentary story telling. Normally I can either enjoy or hate the complete mockumentary in a fictional setting, or total documentary of actual events or subjects in reality, but I avoid most that blend the areas for dramatization.  Or I could be totally off the mark in my assessment of the film and the director’s intent. Either way it is a flick that I am very intrigued about!
