My Book Review Of Crimes By Moonlight

crimes by moonlightCrimes By Moonlight is a collection of short stories from some of today’s most notable thriller writers. Most within this special collection hardly ever venture from the normal crime noir, or dramatic suspense storytelling to walk among the dark dusty path of the nightmare visionaries, and horror novelists. A few of the authors in this book live within the realm of chilling, supernatural domain. The biggest name that stands out within the list of stellar writers is Charlaine Harris-the creator of the Sookie Stackhouse mythos. Aside from Charlaine Harris, the authors brought together for these supernatural stories include Steve Brewer, Dana Cameron, Toni L.P. Kelner, Elaine Viets, Barbara D'Amato, Martin Meyers, Jack Fredrickson , Carolyn Hart, Max Allan Collins, Mickey Spillane, Parnell Hall, William Kent Krueger, Margaret Maron, Brendan DuBois, Harley Jane Kozak, S.W. Hubbard, Jeff Somers, Lou Kemp, Terrie Farley Moran, Mike Wiecek.

In  Crimes By Moonlight the reading is offered up tales of vampires, shapeshifters, vengeful spirits and even Death himself. For most of the stories the themes stay simple and sweet, with predictable outcomes. Allowing for entertaining and whimsical to guide the atmosphere with very little true darkness to creep within the pages. A few of the stories are a bit more than PG-13 readers should indulge in, but only mildly. Most of the stories are easy, light reads that-simply put-are fun to let unfold. The tales are vivid, well written and give a nice wicked twist ending. My favorite stories within this collection have to be ‘House Of Horrors’, ‘Tadesville’, ‘In Memory Of The Sibylline’, ‘Grave Matter’, and ‘Death Of A Vampire’-not that any of the stories were less than entertaining or thrilling. I just found those stories particularly imaginative and offering of something more wicked than the others. It must be noted that Harris’ ‘Dahlia Underground’ is keeping the fast, exciting world that she has created with the Sookie Stackhouse universe. It is yet another voyeuristic delight into a realm that I truly am obsessed with till the end of time.
