"DEBUNKERS INC" PREMIERES ON DIGITAL!

Stranger Things meets Scooby Doo in director Matt Thompson's family-friendly high school murder mystery, DEBUNKERS, INC. released September 3 from Prolific Pictures.

The Debunkers are a band of amateur detectives, who will do anything to become heroes (and make a buck while they’re at it). The hero’s code names are Link, Snake and Dr. Mario— named after their favorite video game characters.

Link, the CEO and leader, is more interested in the look of the business, rather than doing business. Doc, the CIO (Chief Investigative Officer) is Link’s honorable, trustworthy friend who is happy to bring along a new friend, Sheik (the intern, a Canadian foreign exchange girl), to join the group… and then there’s Snake (the Vice President of Clandestine Maneuvers, and Secretary), the mysterious wild-card who thinks he’s really a ninja and life is a series of video-game levels. Together these are the Debunkers, the self-proclaimed “premiere Mystery Debunking business in the state of California.”

These boys are willing to fake it till they make it, and so far they’ve solved only a handful of petty mysteries, but they’re about to get the assignment of a lifetime. During their first day of senior year of high school, two desperate girls, Heather and Joyce, call upon their help to solve the mystery of the murder of their friend, Nina Galanosa. The Debunkers, eager as ever to prove themselves, quickly agree, but soon begin to deal with expectations of reality.

G. Patrick Condon's "Incredible Violence" Strikes on VOD

G. Patrick Condon's Incredible Violence Strikes on VOD
Available Now on Digital HD and Cable Services
Meta Horror Comedy Haunts Global Audiences

1091 Films, in a partnership with G. Patrick Condon's The Hunting Party, has announced the Digital HD and Cable VOD debut of writer/director G. Patrick Condon's quasi-autobiographical horror Incredible Violence.  The bloodsoaked comedy is now available to rent or own on streaming services (including Amazon Instant Video, iTunes, Google Play and Vudu) and Cable VOD (including Time Warner Cable, Verizon, Cox, and Dish) in a number of territories, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

The debut feature from filmmaker G. Patrick Condon, Incredible Violence combines metatextual mayhem with self-referential slaughter.  Incredible Violence world premiered in the Midnight X-Treme section at the Sitges Film Festival, before going on to screen at the Dead by Dawn Film Festival, FIN: Atlantic Film Festival, Nickel Independent Film Festival and the Full Moon Horror and Fantasy Film Festival.

Stephen Oates (Netflix's "Frontier") steps into the role of "G. Patrick Condon", a desperate filmmaker who brings a whole new meaning to the expression "making sacrifices for the love of art" to avoid a pair of cement shoes.  To quickly repair angry loan shoaks, Condon assembles a group of struggling actors to shoot a low budget horror film.  And to keep the effects budget down, he decides to murder the cast.

G. Patrick Condon is a shitty filmmaker who has taken a loan from a group he shouldn't have gotten mixed up in. Now he's drank the money away and he owes them a horror movie. Grace, who has always dreamed of being a famous actress, is desperately trying to make it in the movie business. She gets her first big break in a horror flick, but there a few things unusual about this shoot. She and the rest of the cast will have to live in the house for the duration of the shoot, they aren't allowed to leave and will be recorded everywhere around the clock. Where does the movie begin and reality end? And, how far will Grace go to "make it"?

My Review Of "Ashes"

"Ashes" is a paranormal horror movie directed by Barry Jay. It stars
Elizabeth Keener, Jeremy Earl, Yumarie Morales, Angelique Maurnaé, and Melinda deKay. The film blends dark humor, and haunting atmosphere to create a truly entertaining film about family and the complications of tragedy.

After a family’s estranged aunt passes away, they’re reluctant and creeped out to receive her cremated ashes. But when a series of supernatural misfortunes beset them, they’ll have to go through Hell to be rid of her angry spirit.

"Ashes" is a unique take on paranormal activity horror. I found the style and point of view curious but intriguing. To be honest I didn't want to like this one. The back and forth between docu style and third person kept throwing me out of a very mesmerizing and macabre vibe. That being said it was clear that there was more going on in this movie. So I found myself hooked to the concept and invested in this family.

The story isn't all that original, but it is, by no means, mundane. The clever choices Jay takes keeps things fresh. The characters are likable, fully developed and conflicted, much like the real world. I did find myself cursing them and rooting for Auntie to get them, based on some really crappy personality querks- mainly how they treated an elder and the whole complaining about keeping the ashes. Still in the end I empathized with the fam.

For the most part the movie hits the mark on most of the things Barry Jay attempts, and"Ashes" delivers. Horror and special effects included. This film captured a lot of the haunting, spooky atmosphere that "Insidious" used. The jump scares work, and got me good a few times, the paranormal tricks are controlled, and the practical effects rock. Even the dark humor retains a smart, mature approach. A lot of it reminded me of the humor and atmosphere used in the 'Ash vs the Evil Dead' series.

Overall "Ashes" is a fun, well-made paranormal horror movie. The beginning may through a question mark out there, but within 30 minutes the story smooths out, and the whole energy sets in. It never steps into 'spoof' territory, as much is serious and pointed in "Ashes" as the funny. The acting is quality, the scares are fun and the creepy is turnt up. Definitely check it out. (3.5/5)

Tokyo Based Gangster Thriller SHE'S JUST A SHADOW Arrives On DVD/VOD

DVD/VOD Release (10/22)--Stunning, Dreamlike Tokyo Based Gangster Thriller SHE'S JUST A SHADOW arrives on DVD/VOD October 22nd. The dreamlike crime thriller is the third feature from writer/director Adam Sherman’s (“Crazy Eyes,” “Happiness Runs”). It stars Tao Okamoto (The Man in the High Castle, “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “The Wolverine”), alongside Haruka Abe (“47 Ronin”) and Loka pop star Kihiro in his acting debut.

A beautiful Japanese madam. A deranged, drug-addled Tokyo gangster and his crew. A sadistic serial killer on the loose. The intersection of these stories, and the interior worlds of these characters, plays out against a dreamlike backdrop of ultra-violence and orgiastic sex as everyone tries futilely to rewrite their futures and cheat death.

SHE’S JUST A SHADOW is the action-packed story of a matriarchal crime family engaged in a vicious gang war, while a deranged killer is leaving his victims on railroad tracks all over Tokyo. The only thing more dangerous than the killer is the vicious love triangle within the family itself.

My Review Of "Blindsided"

"Blindsided" is an indie horror thriller from Director Johnny Mitchell. The film blends millennials melancholy with home invasion thrills. It stars True Detective's Bea Santos, Eric Knudsen (Scream 4), Atticus Mitchell (“Killjoys”), Melinda Shankar (“Slasher”), and Paul Popowich (“Hemlock Grove”).

Sloan Carter is a young girl who has recently been blinded. Her father leaves for the weekend and her two best friends, returning home from University, keep her company. A protege of her father's, passing through town, also spends the night. The peaceful weekend is interrupted by a shadowy threat and the safe country getaway turns into a fight for survival.

The story is suspenseful with a clean straightforward story arc that really showcases the movie's nature. It mixes several genre-driven tropes, often playing like a young mystery drama with characters that are related and recognizable. There is a clear atmosphere of horror reminiscent of early 2000's slasher films. Throw in a modern home invasion thriller and it all translates to authentic indie horror fun.

Most movies that try to mashup different styles and concepts fail to take off. The story is either clumsy and muddled or the cast clearly has no clue how to play their part. None of that seems to be an issue with "Blindsided". The story is smooth. And although there isn't anything we haven't seen before in these type of movies, Mitchell is masterful in his ability to contain the tropes, characters and action completely, allowing a comfortable watch.

Like a lot of indie horror suspense plays a big role in creating an element of horror. "Blindsided" makes good use of suspense, shadowing, and cinematography to set a nice thriller edge to the movie. The story progresses into a intense, chilling fight for survival. And there is some well done practical effects done that plays on slasher cinema concepts. For me there could have been more but for this movie's intent everything is as it should be.

Overall "Blindsided" is a cool, entertaining indie horror. The production and execution of the story and it's ability to create a fresh look to "all too familiar" tropes is proof of Johnny Mitchell's talent. On a scale of 1 to 10 the display of horror elements falls around 6 , visible but a bit conservative. Still from start to finish this is one to check out! (4/5)
