Awesome New “Axeman At Cutter’s Creek” Poster

In an iconic way this poster for Tiffany Shepis’s “Axeman At Cutter’s Creek” is beckoning us all back to the days of “Madman” when horror was gory and good and scary.

In this 80’s style horror with a new school twist, nine vacationing twenty-somethings travel to a posh timeshare cabin in Big Bear for a hedonistic weekend. But their weekend of drinking and debauchery soon turns to horror when an axe-wielding local legend comes to life!
Desperately clawing for any chance at survival, these once estranged friends must band together to take on the bloody beast that’s kept these woods desolate and the townspeople terrified.
This weekend will be one to be dismembered. Because this weekend, these friends will meet the terror that is . . .the Axeman at Cutter’s Creek!”
The film is scheduled for a release on February 14, 2013.

New Still Of “Dredd” Giving Nod To Stallone?

Check out this new image from “Dredd” starring Karl Urban as the classic Enforcer. I swear the expression is a total homage to Stallone’s contribution to the story’s earlier movie debut. It may be just me though maybe this is completely Karl..but it made me think of Stallone in that helmet right from the moment I saw it.

The Best News I Have Heard So Far “Evil Dead” Remake

evil-dead-jessica-lucas-goreTalking to Digital Spy Jessica Lucas states that Fede Alverez’s remake of “Evil Dead” will be darker and more violent than Sam Raimi’s trilogy! Thank god. Like “Carrie” I felt this was going to be pointless but after hearing from both remakes news that has come out I have a new hope for the world of remakes, revision’s and reboots….

"It's very, very dark," she explained. "I know the first one was a little bit more tongue-in-cheek, there was some humour in there. Unintentional, but still kind of funny. Ours is very dark and violent."
Asked if she was nervous about how the Evil Dead fanbase will receive the new version, Lucas said: "A little bit, but we're trying to do something different.">/i>
"It's not so much a remake or a reboot as it is a continuation of the saga. We're not trying to recreate it."
"THE EVIL DEAD", also starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez and Lou Taylor Pucci, opens in cinemas next year and is produced by Sam Raimi and original star Bruce Campbell.

The Light Is The Darkness By Laird Barron

Book Worth Reading:

perf6.000x9.000.inddConrad Navarro is a champion of the Pageant, a gruesome modern day gladiatorial exhibition held in secret arenas across the globe. Indentured by a cabal of ultra-rich patrons, his world is one of blood and mayhem, an existence where savagery reigns supreme while mercy leads to annihilation.
Conrad's sister has vanished while traveling in Mexico. Imogene, a decorated special agent for the FBI, was hot on the trail of a legendary scientist whose vile eugenics experiments landed him on an international most-wanted list. Imogene left behind a sequence of bizarre clues that indicate she uncovered evidence of a Byzantine occult conspiracy against civilization itself -- a threat so vast and terrible, its ultimate fruition would herald an event more inimical to all terrestrial life than mere extinction.
Now, Conrad is on the hunt, searching for his missing sister while malign forces seek to manipulate and destroy him by turns. It is an odyssey that will send this man of war from the lush jungles of South America, to the debauched court of an Aegean Prince, to the blasted moonscape of the American desert as he becomes inexorably enmeshed within a web of primordial evil that stretches back unto prehistory. All the while struggling to maintain a vestige of humanity; for Conrad has gazed into an abyss where the light is the darkness, and he has begun the metamorphosis into something more than human.

The Not So Pointless Adventures Of James Cullen Bressack

MV5BMTc2NTU0NzAyM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwOTgzMTU3Ng@@._V1._SY314_CR128,0,214,314_James Cullen Bressack’s star is on the rise in the Independent Film Industry. He is Writer, Director and Producer with his own company Psykik Junky Pictures. However his talents have been noticed enough to garner him some opportunities with film companies outside of the Indie Hollywood scene. Born and raised in L.A. he is not unaccustomed to the world of filmmaking. His father is a three time award winning writer and his mother is a voice actress. Creativity and storytelling are in his DNA. Bressack’s IMDb states that his father took him into the studio of a television project the Mr. Bressack was working on and immediately James Cullen began directing at the tender age of 4. The focus and passion that would come of such an early spark is evident within his work. He has written over 13 titles and directed 14 films both shorts and features. His directing and writing is powerful and poignant. They grind into your mind with intense , riveting emotion as well as entertain wickedly.

Having first realized his love of the film industry at such a young age the determination to make his own films came during a time of familial discourse. His father was in the hospital for an extensive period whereas James found himself by his father’s side enjoying watching and discussing old Hollywood films as well as current ones. It was a passion they both shared and the experience was the inspirational “light” that told Bressack his desire to make movies was the right one to follow. It is a time that James Cullen can now talk of fondly thanks to his Dad’s returning good health. James realized how important film’s truly and set out to make movies that people would talk about. And that they do!

In the sixth grade James Cullen Bressack made his first film, one that he swears will never see the light of day as it stands now. The film was a feature length titled “The Pointless Adventures Of Dylan And Brad. A film Bressack says “was without plot and entirely improvised.” He did state that maybe someday in the future he may do a compilation release of his childhood shorts allowing this film as well as others to see the light of day, if not he says maybe as ‘special features’ on future project releases.  James thinks no one would really want to see these films but I beg to differ feeling that in time, and very little time indeed people will beg to see these classic moments of his past. I recently chatted with James Cullen Bressack about his films and influences. His body of work is a growing menagerie of Horror, Action and Cinema Verite that drags you screaming into the world of pain, suffering, inequality and social discourse with such films as “My Pure Joy”, “Hate Crime” not to mention his short films like “Heroine Junky For Dummies” and “The Music Box Killer”

ASouthernLIfe: When you were realizing that you wanted to make movies, what Directors influenced you the most?

JamesCullenBressack: Chan-wook, Takashi Miike, Stanley Kubrick, Taratino, Rodreguez , Martin Scorsese, probably a clichéd bunch to mention but it is true.

ASouthernLife: Having mentioned Chan-wook and Takashi Miike, has Asian cinema always been in your veins or is it something new that you have discovered? Classic Kung-Fu Theatre aside-I think that is in all our veins…lol.

JamesCullenBressack: I’ve always loved Asian films. They were my favorite films growing up. I will take subtitles over big American stars any day.

ASouthernLife: Okay now for more something a bit more modern, let’s talk about “Hate Crime”. There is a dark realism that touches on a personal and often ignored subject matter in this film. Does this come from a place of familiarity or just casual social awareness?

JamesCullenBressack: A bit of both to be honest. Let me tell you a story. When I was in Texas last year, on my way to a screening of “My Pure Joy” in Oklahoma, my business partner and I were harassed by a group of people at a local bar. They said to my friend ‘you’re a Jew ain’t ya boy?" I ain’t never seen a Jew before. Where’s your horns at Jewboy.”  The social environment that I depict in my films really exists, even today. People haven’t become less intolerant or less racist. We’ve just learned to ignore it more. We act as if intolerance is only something the ignorant practice, but the sad truth is most of America must be ignorant because the racism is everywhere. This hate in the world is an epidemic.
I mean for god sakes, the fact that ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS don’t have equal rights in this country is completely absurd. This is 2012 here people- not 1902!

ASouthernLife: So true, but hatred seems to be what drives economies and tucks the kiddies in bed at nights. Peace and equality are dirty words now, posed by twisted liberals according a growing crowd in America. Not that I don’t mind being considered dirty or twisted. Sadly it is just how we are seen, it is sickening. So when this confrontation happened (in Texas) was it the kind of moment where you feared for your personal safety or one of those moments when a little educating would work to your advantage?

JamesCullenBressack: When confronted with that situation we realized we had to educate people, thus we started writing “Hate Crime” the next day.

ASouthernLife: Maybe when it shows in Texas those people will be in attendance and good will come from the experience. I know the movie is quite profound, it held me from the beginning until the final scene.

JamesCullenBressack: Wow, thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I only paid you how much to say that? LOL.

ASouthernLife: LOL. It is true. Hate Crime is very different from “My Pure Joy” which was a more traditional approach to Horror. As for subgenres which do you lean more toward when coming up with story ideas? If you have a preference.

JamesCullenBressack: Honestly I never like to do the same thing twice, so I change my subgenre every film. I never want to make the same movie a second time. I want to take the adventure of making something different.

ASouthernLife: A very wise decision indeed because you seem to be moving up in the Industry and mostly because of the diversity of your films. Now you have a short in “Theatre Of Deranged II” which comes out later, called “Unmimely Demise”. Other than featuring mimes what is the film about?

JamesCullenBressack: It’s about a killer mime named Cheeky who goes on a murderous rampage after 10 years.of hiding. He discovered his best friend, a clown, was sleeping with his wife. Now Cheeky is back and with an arsenal of invisible weapons to kick some ass. It is campy but a fun horror flick. Before “Hate Crime” this was my favorite thing I had done.

ASouthernLife: Wow, that is saying a ot.! So an invisible arsenal of weapons, yet the results will be very visible and final for his victims. I can’t wait to see how that turns out.

James Cullen has a lot ahead of him now. Not only is he making plans to bring “Hate Crime” to next years film circuit where I am sure it will garner lots of attention, It is truly a powerful and full throttled nightmare look into racism, but he is also set to direct the story of the Grim Sleeper. A serial killer who stalked South Central L.A. This film is titled “Dancing With Rip”. It is a story that Bressack remembers following on the television and in the newspapers as the horrors unfolded. Having a fascination with serial killers like any healthy minded horror fan should he was pleased to take on directing the film after reading the script. In his own words “the film is so dark and visceral that it was an easy choice for me to get onboard.” The story will be told from the perspective of the detectives that caught the killer and deal with the years that they were on a cold trail.
As well as focusing on “Dancing With Rip” James Cullen Bressack will also be directing a mysterious film that little is known about right now. It is scheduled to begin filming in January and is titled “Pernicious”. The film is centered in Thailand home to Benetone Films and Hillin Entertainment who approached Bressack with a desire to have him make a movie with them. So he set down to write a script which they loved and the horror flick will take life next year. It is a film I am very intrigued by after seeing the teaser poster and knowing the talent that James Cullen possesses. “We have all been having a great time working together on this awesome project and are really excited about it. We start filming in January! I couldn't have asked for better producers for this one” Bressack said to me in our interview about the project but was sure not to let anything more slip about the project as not to break his agreement with the studio. That just makes this film that much more interesting to learn about as the months pass own and we edge closer to the filming date.

“Nine Miles Down” Finally Completed

13638Supernatural Thriller “Nine Miles Down” which has shown us teasers and tidbits as early as 2009 has finally completed and ready for show. The film is directed by Anthony Waller and stars Adrian Paul, Kate Nauta. Check out the trailer and movie stills .

In the remotest reaches of the Sahara Desert, a sandstorm batters a deserted drilling station. Three days earlier, radio contact was lost, so security patrolman Jack is enlisted to investigate. The station, originally built for gas exploration then abandoned, has recently been revived by an international scientific research team on a discovery mission, which involves drilling deeper into the earth’s crust than has ever been attempted before. Jack finds abundant food and resources in the complex but, oddly, not a living soul. Stranded by the sandstorm he is forced to stay the night.

The next morning Jack encounters a breathtakingly beautiful American geologist, JC, who claims to be the last remaining member of the research team. She tells how the team successfully breached the roof of a vast cavern at the unprecedented depth of nine miles. Following the discovery a series of mysterious sightings and hallucinations were experienced by the increasingly fearful drilling crew. Violence broke out and the team fled the site, abandoning her with two scientists’ corpses which she keeps stored in a freezer. Although her explanation seems logical, Jack suspects she’s hiding something more sinister. To him, all the evidence points more towards a supernatural phenomenon. JC warns him against choosing superstition over rationality, citing it as the cause for her team’s escalating paranoia in the first place…

“Cougar Cult” Strikes Redbox Tuesday‏

COUGARCULT_key_LR‘COUGAR CULT’ STRIKES DEAL WITH REDBOX
LOS ANGELES, CA – Campy horror film Cougar Cult reuniting the original scream queens Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer has found a settled into a delicious deal with dvd rental retailer Redbox . A July 31, 2012 release date has been set.
The trio of actresses rose to cult fame in the 1980s and 1990s by appearing a hefty number of campy b-movie confections with snappy titles like Nightmare Sisters and Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers. With demand high in “mom ‘n pop” video stores for product to simply fill consumer need, independent horror filmmakers found themselves in a boom they could barely keep up with. Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead), Stevens (The Slumber Party Massacre) and Bauer (The Tomb) were the sexpots who drove a generation of teenage boys wild with endless shower scenes, scuffles with men in rubber monster suits, and deadly oujia boards. 25 years after director David DeCoteau united them for his popular Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama, he has regrouped the terrifying trifecta for Cougar Cult, an all-new campy horror-fest highly anticipated by the girls still-healthy fan base.

Cougar Cult follows Rufus (Ryan Curry), Darwin (Bryce Durfee), and Coopersmith (Jack Kubacki) - three nerdy, but hunky, young college dudes who score themselves a dream summer job working at a swanky estate. Little do they know that the owners, wealthy and sexy middle-aged babes Clara (Quigley), Victoria (Bauer), and Edwina (Stevens) actually are a coven of witches who transform into flesh-eating cougars in need of fresh young men in order to live eternally. With screamingly outrageous special FX and a script with its dialogue firmly tucked in its 80s-soaked cheek, Cougar Cult is a great rental successor to the former USA Up All Night crowd which devoured the actresses numerous titles during its heyday.
cougar trio ritualNational retailer Redbox, which owns over 30,000 rental pods across America, has picked up Cougar Cult for DVD rental on July 31st and has already listed the title for reservations on its website at www.redbox.com. DeCoteau, himself iconic in the B-movie industry for his resume verging on 100 titles, knew it was time to bring the women back together following a reunion on the set of Screaming in High Heels (currently airing on NBCUniversal’s Chiller TV and due on Unrated DVD August 28, 2012). “These women continue to draw impressive crowds at horror film conventions,” he says. “Unlike many of those who tried to steal their thrones over the last two decades, they’re not only still gorgeous, but they’re all working more than ever in new films. The bonus is that now the guys who grew up enjoying them are sharing them with their kids. To cross over between generations is quite an impressive feat. I’m simply amazed at the anticipation surrounding their reunion in Cougar Cult. I honestly think it’s going to rank right on top with their other fan favorites.”

Jae-hyuk is an ordinary man in his 40s. He works as a medical supplies salesman and is hassled by doctors all day. His brother Jae-pil is a detective that is not all that interested in public safety and spends most of his time moaning about the stock market.
The discovery of a series of floating, gruesomely skeletal bodies around the country sparks hysteria. The police commissioner is disturbed to see CCTV footage of people jumping into water as if they were possessed, and drowning themselves. Time passes and hundreds of similar cases are reported, leaving officials stumped as to the cause of the deaths. The government declares a national emergency.
Jae-pil joins the massive investigation and meets the mayor of a small town who claims he witnessed several men in work uniforms dumping infected dogs into the streams and realizes that there is a conspiracy behind the outbreak. Meanwhile, Jae-hyuk’s wife and children are showing the same symptoms as the victims, leading to a frantic search for medicine. Through Jae-pil he learns of a warehouse containing a potential cure in thousands and thousands of doses and heads there with no idea of what he’s heading into.
'Deranged' stars Kim Myeong-Min, Kim Dong-Wan, Moon Jeong-Hee, and Lee Honey. The film opens across South Korea on the 15th July, 2012.
