From the Press Release:
“Toronto based genre sales company, Raven Banner Entertainment has picked up world rights to Steve Kostanski’s cult hit, MANBORG. Shot as a throwback to VHS-only 80s sci-fi horror action films like ROBOCOP and THE TERMINATOR, Manborg tells the story of a dead soldier who finds himself reanimated as a cyborg killing machine. The film had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest.”
Synopsis: “Half-man, half-cyborg: Manborg. Killed while battling the forces of hell, a supersoldier is brought back from the dead in order to fight an army of Nazi vampires and demons led by the nefarious Count Draculon. Cue kung-fu killing, stop-motion monster battles, hoverbikes, robots, demons and a character named Doctor Scorpius.”
From the Press Release:
“Standards of Living, the new horror film from director Aaron Mento and Ocular Migraine Productions, is the first feature-length film shot entirely using the Apple iPad 2. In a teaser trailer released on YouTube, an announcer played by Kevin Glover (Syngenor) ridicules the crew for “besmirching the sanctity of the silver screen” with a movie filmed entirely on “a tablet with only 780p resolution.”
Standards of Living is about a terrible stand-up comedian, Peter Sayer, who takes part in a teleportation experiment that “improves” whatever cargo is being teleported. Unfortunately for Peter, the results are no laughing matter. Mento describes the story as “my own kind of extended Twilight Zone episode, only it gets weirder and darker as we move towards the conclusion.”
Regarding the use of the iPad 2, Mento said, “We were moving fast with a limited crew, and basically, we wanted to see if making a feature on a tablet could be done. We used the unique visual aesthetic of the iPad 2 combined with external microphones to create an experience most people aren’t used to: iPad 2 footage with quality sound, telling an engrossing feature narrative.”
With a miniscule budget, Mento set the story around only two available locations, and wrote the screenplay “specifically for the iPad 2, as a sort of challenge to what tools are traditionally necessary to make a feature film.
”Standards of Living stars Scott Yarborough (Lady Edgerton, Campus Ladies) as the failed comedian invited to perform his act for the mysterious Mr. Randall, played by Bill Ferris, (Young Again, Spooks) and his assistant Stu, played by Derek Houck (United States of Tara, Napoleon Bon Appétit). The film also stars Emily Marsh, Randy Raphael, Terry McCoy, Nicola Singer, and Rolland Kiroloss.”
This was one of the most awesomely disturbing films to come out of Australia since “Wolf Creek”. I a glad to see it getting more U.S attention, regardless of how late it comes….
Paramount Insurge is bringing the films stateside distribution in a major way by giving the horror flick a theater run . Check out the teaser below…

Q had a plan: drive the robbery getaway van, deliver everyone to the safe house and get paid - a nice, simple, plan.
Unfortunately, life is never really that simple.

Teaser for the upcoming short film from The Collective Vol. 4 which will be premiering at Days Of The Dead in Indianapolis, IN July 6-8, 2012.
“Myctophobia was shot over Feburary 25th and 26th. It stars Kitsie Duncan, Steve Christopher, and Eric Shellito. It will be part of The Collective Volume 4 which brings together film makers to create 10 10 minute short films with a theme combining them together. This collection's theme is Emotions and the emotion I was given was Fear. I came up with Myctophobia after looking through a list of phobias and settled on this one due to the wording of 'the fear of darkness'. I thought the way it was worded gave the dark almost a living quality. So I set out to make a film about a woman who has to face her fear of darkness head on. I can't wait to share this great story with the world.”-Bryan Wolford
Kelly has a fear of darkness and will soon be alone in her house. Are the things she's seeing all part of her fear or are they something much more sinister?

Nine stories of dark science fiction and fantasy take us through the underbelly of San Francisco's most notorious district known as the Tenderloin. Including the all-new story "Red Alien."
Best known for his strong sense of place and uniquely vibrant characters. O'Neill brings the gritty underside of the city to life with nine interwoven stories of broken lives, missed dreams, and all that can go wrong with both reality and fantasy among the down and out. The city itself opens wide to swallow all comers with the temptation of its secrets and sins, while O'Neill brings dignity and humanity to a set of characters often overlooked in both society and fiction.
From BrainDamageFilms this May through Midnight Releasing comes a new Nazi threat. The undead Reich. On May 1st this flick hits DVD. Check out the trailer below….
Starring Thomas Reilly, Elissa Mullen, Christopher Connolly, John Weidemoyer, and John Martineau. Directed by David B. Stewart III.
A team of Army Special Forces is sent into a secluded, secret biological weapons facility, only to fall prey to the specimens of a Nazi experiment that was recreated by the Army Chemical Corps and the CIA after World War II.
MPI/Dark Sky Films, LA-based XYZ Films, and Pellicola of Amsterdam have announced that the first day of principal photography on Richard Raaphorst's long-awaited debut feature, Frankenstein's Army, has been completed in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The stunning ancient location, situated near historic Prague, was also recently used in the 2006 box office hit Casino Royale.
"Frankenstein's Army takes place toward the end of World War II, as Russian soldiers push into eastern Germany and stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Viktor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein's work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades - a desperate Hitler's last ghastly ploy to escape defeat."

I don’t understand a word they are saying but the creature that comes in the middle of this trailer has me hooked completely. I am hoping this at least gets a subtitled U.S release!
“CORAZON: ANG UNANG ASWANG” Starring Derek Ramsay & Erich Gonzales Showing in Filipino cinemas on March 14, 2012.
A couple in love looses everything with the loss of a still born child. That horror pales in comparison to the nightmare that soon troubles them.
A blend of grindhouse and punk rock! “APE” is directed Joel Potrykus.
“Trevor Newandyke is a struggling small-time comedian. Not only does he bomb on stage, but he bombs in everyday life. To him, it’s the little things that matter most. He’s fed up with the threats from the cable company, 7-11 raising the price of the Slurpee, and all the jerks who think they can push him around. All he wants is a break, and for someone to get him. Not everyone, just someone.
But instead of taking a breath and getting himself together or taking his anger to the stage, he turns to the loud din of his headphones and the crackling glow of fire to ease his mind. He’s not only a lousy comic, but a pyromaniac, as well. After a typical night disappointing the crowd he finds that one of his jokes begins to come to life. A fruit salesman posing as the Devil strikes a bargain with Trevor. A golden apple for a joke.
He treasures the apple, seeing it as a sign or a magical object. But after some troubling news he tells the audience that it’s likely just an apple and meaningless. He decides to just eat it. It’s good, too. Makes Trevor feel something. The next day he finally reaches his boiling point during the clamor of his neighbors fighting.
But instead of hiding behind a match or homemade flame thrower, he instead turns to the baseball bat. He not only hits hard against those in his way, but he finds his voice on stage as well. He tells it like it is. No fluff. From here, Trevor lets go. He’s mad as hell and he’s not going to take it anymore. Of course, deals with the Devil don’t ever turn out well.”
My first instinct is to cry foul on this concept however I am going to keep an open mind because it is a zombie film noir and I love when a film blends the noir and macabre together. I am hoping that this film brings good things to the table for the zombie genre. Who knows before long zombie society could be fearing an outbreak of humanity!
“Humans hate zombies. Brains hates zombies. Brains is a zombie who can think. Zombies don’t think. Brains thinks alone. A zombie noir picture.”
