“Bloody Homecoming” DVD Release Details And Trailer

bloody homecoming posterThe horror film “Bloody Homecoming” hits DVD and VOD September 24th 2013. The film is directed by Brian C. Weed  and the release was announced by Image Entertainment. “Bloody Homecoming” stars Jim Tavare, Rae Latt, Lexi Giovagnoli, Grainne McDermott, Alex Dobrenko, Randi Lamey, Jesse Ferraro, Branden Roth, Taryn Cervarich, Elizabeth Bigger, Shaleen Cholera and Steve Earnest. Check out the trailer for the nightmare flick below.

It’s Homecoming night in the sleepy town of Winston as a gaggle of freshmen friends excitedly approach their first big dance at Winston High, only to be refused entry by a trio of jerky senior jocks. The group decides to throw their own party in the school theater, but when Annie’s egomaniacal date Billy threatens her, the ensuing fight results in a accident that leaves young Billy dead.

Three years later, the faculty of Winston High finally decides to bring Homecoming Night back for the school, and Annie and her former friends—now seniors—are all anxious about it's return, hoping they can forget the past and start anew.

But someone out there intends to make sure they never forget.

As darkness falls on Homecoming Night, the senior friends find themselves visited by a deadly force from their past in the dark halls of their high school. In the tradition of “Prom Night”, “The House on Sorority Row” and “My Bloody Valentine”, “Bloody Homecoming” is a fun, old school throwback to the slasher classics of the 80’s that promises to deliver a bloody good time.

New Images From Indie Action-Horror “Velvet Vengeance”

velvet vengeanceposterJeremy Campbell’s “Velvet Vengeance” is a modern blend of grindhouse, thriller, and neo-western styles in a new re-emerging subgenre known as action-horror. The subgenre builds upon the action thriller atmosphere while holding on to it’s grindhouse roots but with more graphic bloodiness that is usually associated with horror. “Velvet Vengeance” is a mixture of all that and even throws in two horror elements for an even added boost-the slasher shadow figure and the psycho crazy family. Once in an interview with me Campbell mentioned that it was a modern vision equivalent to that of the 80’s action-horror-comedy “Big Trouble In Little China”, as far as volume of story aspects that collide. Although “Velvet Vengeance” will take a more somber and serious, ass-kicking approach.

“Velvet Vengeance” is a film that I have followed for a while, since the short film was released. That film went on to win awards before Jeremy Campbell decided to take the story and twist it into this new unique feature adaptation. I consider it to be more neo-western meets grindhouse. But labels really don’t describe what all this feature will entail. I am working on an interview with Jeremy Campbell about the progress of “Velvet Vengeance” and some other interesting news-that interview to come shortly.

“Velvet Vengeance” holds its premiere on October 19th at DOA Bloodbath Film Festival so it will be nice to get a feel of where the film is at, and what can be expected for horror fans. Meanwhile, check out these cool production stills from the film that was posted on the movie’s Facebook Page. Also hit the highlighted names to go to interviews with several of the movie’s cast members. Lindsay Norman, Paula Marcenaro Solinger and Dani Bliss Gavit.

My Review Of “Watch This” 2013

watchthis“Watch This” is an indie horror short anthology from Concept Media. The collection of low budget short films in this anthology explore contemporary themes that build on very modern urban lore. The serial killer roaming the land, random acts of violence for the thrill of killing, and of course the numb kids seeking excitement through the occult. These are all very modern mythos that are weaved into today’s horror and urban legend. Hell it is themes that roam through my mind, and are in heavy rotation on my DVD player, so it is nice to see fresh stories that add to those nightmares like the collection within “Watch This”. The total time is a bit over 53 minutes and contains four creative tales and a nice simple  wrap-around.

“Watch This” starts off with “Woodford County”. It is a simple low budget short that offers fast paced kills as a killer runs amuck in a rural community. No one is safe. The dialog is simple and does not weigh down the plot with a bunch of unnecessary depth. The plot moves quickly and for the most part it is a simple ‘set-em-up-knock-em-down’ situation. Plus it ends with a “to be continued” so chances are the story will be revisited later…

“The Way Of The Buffalo” is a darker more somber short that stays within the serial killer theme. However there is no comic relief and the story is told more as footage and evidence after the fact. This creates a more realistic, grittier atmosphere that is quite chilling. The more serious nature of this short really amped up the chills. It felt like watching a crime in action. I liked that aspect of the film.

The third short brings back a more satirical lighter atmosphere with a tongue-in-cheek exploration of the Ladies night.  That is the title of this short film, “Ladies Nite”. It is a twisted tale of three friends out to enjoy the night and meet some guys. Unfortunately for the guys sex is not the first thing on these ladies’ mind. The story is fun, fast and even throws in some graphic gore scene below the belt. This one was very entertaining and the ladies actually out shine the guys with the acting.

Finally “Watch This” ends with a cool little black magic short titled “Summon” . It pulls us back to the darker, more serious tone with girlfriends summoning a demon to set them free from their mortal coil. Considering the low budget nature this short was creative, visually appealing and had some nice special effect make-up. The story was hauntingly gothic with a more foreboding tone, keeping the story chilling and creepy. I think this one was my favorite of the collection and even it ended with a “to be continued” which I really hope means it will be revisited later.

Over all “Watch This” is a nice low budget anthology short film that is entertaining to watch. The quality isn’t outstanding but the cinematography and creative quality was done very well. I am a fan of the studios that put this anthology together because they offer some cool, modern low budget indie horror stories and “Watch This” is just proof that they are truly passionate horror fans and filmmakers. Even though I haven't always given them great reviews in the past. “Woodford County” seemed a bit wild and almost random, but the rest of the shorts in here are pretty well thought out, and nicely executed stories. I think any indie low budget horror fan will enjoy this anthology series.

New British Anthology “The Landlady” Crowd Funding Ongoing

landladygifThe crowd funding campaign for the indie British horror anthology “The Landlady” is still ongoing over at Indiegogo. The project brings together Rory O'Donnell and Jason Read in order to take horror fans back to those classic days of Hammer Horror and Tales Of The Crypt with a short anthology series of four stories in the 'portmanteau' tradition. Fusing together the atmosphere and chilling suspense of a more romantic telling of the macabre with robust characters, gothic stories and imaginative vision, “The Landlady” is a departure from the contemporary themes of zombie satire, slice’n’dice killer thrillers.

Rory O'Donnell and Jason Read are both seasoned filmmakers. Rory's last short film 'AutoDrive', funded through IndieGoGo, has played from Cannes to California, and he works on his projects between running the film training courses for the Raindance Film Festival. Jason has been a director on commercial and music videos for the last ten years and is also a professional musician/composer.

In “The Landlady” anthology tenants rent out a room with only four simple rules that they must abide by. This is a horror anthology so obviously the renters break some rules and pay dearly for it. It does sound like a very interesting project and with filming beginning now at the end of August and finishing in time for Halloween it will be cool to see how this little project turns out. I will be looking out for “The Landlady”, will you?

Image Releases Trailer For “Shiver”

“The Hunted” Poster Boasts Big Biting Fear For Audiences

The poster has been released for thriller “The Hunted” and it claims some big thrills. The film’s tagline is: “ Will Do To The Woods What Jaws Did To The Oceans”. That puts some pretty epic pressure on the film to produce such a massive bite of fear for audiences. I so hope it proves an accurate declaration. “Jaws” did prevent me from venturing beyond my knees in the ocean on holidays, so it would be cool to see a film that made me fear the woods, especially since I am soon to be surrounded by forest as I move into the Appalachian mountains. “The Hunted” is directed by Josh Stewart.

In an attempt to land their own TV show, Jake (Josh Stewart) and Stevie (Ronnie Gene Blevins) head to the dense, secluded mountains of West Virginia. Equipped with only their bow and cameras, they have three days to kill a monster buck big enough to grab the attention of a TV network. Once they find the massive animal, they look to strike fast. But as the sun sets, they realize they're not alone. A supernatural force appears to be lurking in the vacant woods... and now they're the ones being hunted.

First Poster Released For “The Sacrament”

Check out the first poster for Ti West’s cult horror “The Sacrament”. The film is inspired by the very real nightmare world of Jonestown and it’s founder Jim Jones. In this fictional story three journalists visit a relative who lives on a commune controlled by the spiritual leader Gene Jones. The film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival next week but there is no official release date set for film as of yet. “The Sacrament” stars Joe Swanberg, Amy Seimetz, AJ Bowen, Kate Lyn Sheil.

As far as the inspiration that lead Ti West to create the horrors of Eden Parish, he had this to say to Entertainment Weekly; “Jonestown is something that I’ve always been really fascinated by, because I don’t think a lot of people understand it,” says West, who wrote, directed, edited, and produced the movie. “The people who killed themselves were not mindless cult people in robes acting like brainwashed monsters. I wanted to depict a cult that wasn’t full of psychos. They are people that you’re like, ‘Well, I don’t want to live there, but I understand why they do. And let them do whatever they want.’ Of course, things go wrong, but I think that that understanding of the mentality is very important and I think it’s overlooked in most movies, especially horror movies, because everyone wants to get to the crazy sh-t.”

Season Two Poster Released For ‘Arrow’

I am a huge CW fan and ‘Arrow’ is one of the many reasons why. I followed the first season religiously, even live tweeted during the episodes. So I am super amp’d about what is in store for the cast in season 2. Especially with young hottie Colton Haynes on the show (I was devastated over his characters absence on ‘Teen Wolf’ he is now posthumously mentioned as an American werewolf in London!) Check out the new poster promoting season 2 of ‘Arrow’ below. The show returns on CW October 9th-how hot is Stephen Amell in leather!!!)

Ryan Buell Teases Paranormal Research Society’s Return To Television

paranormal-stateIt is hard to believe that it has been two years since the last new episodes of ‘Paranormal State’ aired on A&E. The show was one of the few reality shows that I watched. It is also the one show that increased my interest in ghosts, paranormal materials and ghost tech as more than mere fodder for a spooky movie. I have since tried watching other paranormal ghost hunting shows to try an fill that void left by the departure of ‘Paranormal State’ but alas non have quite lived up to the thrills I got from Ryan Buell and is scooby gang of researchers. Well that may all be changing as Buell released a lengthy statement that suggests he and his crew in some form will be returning to our television sets in the near future. Most already know that Ryan Buell had to take some time off to deal with personal health issues so it is rejoice-worthy that word has come out from him personally that he has everything in check and eager to get back on the tele! Read his statement below.

Hey guys, I posted this via Twitter but thought I’d share here…
You know, it’s been two years since our last “new” episode of PS. And as you also know, I’ve had to take quite a lot of time off the past year-and-a-half. I haven’t been in a place, health-wise, where I could even consider returning to TV or doing any major projects until now. I spent some time this summer taking meetings in LA and in NYC to see if there was any interest in me returning to TV, and to my surprise, there was/is a ton of interest. Most of them said the same thing, “we’re ready to work with you, just keep focusing on your health and getting better, we are here, ready when you are.”

I asked you guys, back in May and July, how you felt about me/PRS returning to TV, and literally HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of you responded. Some of you may say, “well duh, what did u expect us to say? No?” To he honest, I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve had to drop the things I was most passionate about in order to focus on my health. And two years is a long time. Perhaps there wouldn’t be any interest. But I’ve been told by many, from old producers to agents, that our show, “Paranormal State,” continues to do well in reruns. And our fan numbers keep growing. You want to know how I feel? I feel blessed. And sometimes, I feel I don’t deserve it. You guys have been so supportive, through the ups and downs. And health-wise, it’s true that I still have a long battle ahead, despite the battles I’ve won against this disease. But what’s the point of living & fighting if you have nothing to LIVE for? Whether I ultimately like it or not, paranormal investigation is my life’s work. I was doing it before a show and I’ll keep doing it, with or without a show. PS is genuine because we really care about the work. And so, when it comes to returning to TV, I also wanted to make sure I had a good reason for doing so. And it needs to be the right time. Right now is that time. It’s as good as it will ever be. And I want to do it again, because I’m older, (arguably) wiser and have more to offer, hopefully. We changed the world once already, and we can do it again. To come back with something different & once again groundbreaking!

Other things are different also. We’re building a new team, we have new goals and resources that I’ve kept very close to the chest, that only Serg, Eilfie and Chris know about, because we wanted to wait for the right time. So, I am ready to return and I’ve made the decision to once again be open to having a TV crew document our/my lives and our search for the unknown. So, where are we with that? Well, I’ve been dropping some hints here and there. If you’re attentive, you’ll be able to piece the clues together. Bottom line is, we’re about to make a come back. And I have faith that you all will love what we are developing. B/C that’s just as important to me. So there you have it. Yes, we are making the jump to return to TV. And soon I’ll finally be able to reveal more than just a tease!

My suggestion? Dust off those DVD’s, keep watching our Twitters, website & Facebook for info and most of all: get ready!

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Krishna Janmashtami

JanmashtamiAlthough Hinduism is a well established old religion that is still going strong and only considered a pagan religion by Christians I have incorporated some of the Hindu gods and beliefs into my own version of pagan spirituality. So I am sending celebratory cheers to Krishna today. The Krishna Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu  on August 28th.

The festival is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Bhadrapada (August–September; However, in both traditions it is the same day. So, we have works like Vishnudharmottara Purana saying Krishna Ashtami is in the Bhadrapada month and Skanda Purana stating that it falls in the month of Shravana) in the Hindu calendar. Rasa lila, dramatic enactments of the life of Krishna, are a special feature in regions of Mathura and Vrindavan, and regions following Vaishnavism in Manipur. While the Rasa lila re-creates the flirtatious aspects of Krishna's youthful days, the Dahi Handicelebrate God's playful and mischievous side, where teams of young men form human towers to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it. This tradition, also known as uriadi, is a major event in Tamil Nadu on Gokulashtami.

Hindus celebrate Janmashtami by fasting and staying up until midnight, the time when Krishna is believed to have been born. Images of Krishna's infancy are placed in swings and cradles in temples and homes. At midnight, devotees gather around for devotional songs, dance and exchange gifts. Some temples also conduct reading of the Hindu religious scripture Bhagavad Gita.

Trailer Released For American Remake “We Are What We Are”

We_Are_What_We_Are-699216159-largeAn official trailer has been released for the American remake of modern cult film “We Are What We Are”. I haven mentioned many a time my dislike for redo’s of recent films for American audiences. Especially when the original is such a powerful artist story in it’s original incarnation. I say enjoy with the subtitled and intended atmosphere. It makes us cultured. Anyway very few redo’s live up to the original but based on the trailer for Jim Mickle’s vision of the 2010 original it looks as though this film will be one of those few exceptions to the rule.

“We Are What We Are” stars Kelly McGillis, Ambyr Childers, Odeya Rush, Wyatt Russell and is due out on September 27th in a limited theatrical release. Check out the trailer below.

A seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank rules his family with a rigorous fervor, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost. As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris and Rose are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family. The most important task that the girls face is putting meat on the table— but not the kind that can be found at the local supermarket. As the unrelenting downpour continues to flood their small town, the local authorities begin to uncover clues that bring them closer to the secret that the Parkers have held closely for so many years.

Update On SyFy’s ‘12 Monkeys’ Series

12monkeysgifWe learned awhile back the a series based on the sci-fi ‘12 Monkeys’ was in the works. Now an update has been released for the project. The show will be featured on SyFy’s network with a pilot already ordered, cast-contingent. Universal Cable Produstions and Atlas Entertainment are signed on to produce the 60 minute pilot episode.

‘12 Monkeys’ the series will follow the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Filming is slated to begin in November. From a screenplay written by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett who are well known for ‘Terra Nova’. Matalas worked on one of the best revisions of Star Trek to come along in a great while ‘Enterprise’. Not to mention ‘Voyager’ which I loved more than “Star Trek: NG’ I really loved ‘Enterprise’, wish more people would have gotten into it so it could have seen a longer run. Based on the two guys experience in the sci-fi genre I think the show will get a pretty tight, well designed story line and vision. I just wonder if it will see an audience who agrees.

jessica cameron
“Bedlam Stories” is about a reporter who goes undercover to expose atrocities at an insane asylum encounters Dorothy and Alice - two patients whose fantasy land delusions are terrifyingly real. I have to say this is one of the most twistedly brilliant warpings of the classic characters from some timeless and enduring tales. I am really excited to see this whole project mature and spread its maniacal vision of true indie artistry.

Press Release:
Director Pearry Teo’s (Necromentia, The Gene Generation, and the upcoming The Dark Prince) newest twisted horror movie has added a seasoned indie veteran to their cast, Scream Queen Jessica Cameron.

New Trailer For Creature Horror “Rugaru”

rugaru-posterCheck out the new trailer for creature horror “The Rugaru”. The film stars Joe Estevez, Randall Oliver, Christopher Severio, Amye Gousset, Krystal Tomlin, Robert Douthat and Brittany Merrett. “Rugaru” was written and directed by Tom Severio.  The story follows the old lore of the wild man (The Wendigo). The creature or spirit could either possess humans or be a monster that had physically transformed from a person. It is particularly associated with cannibalism. The Algonquian believed those who indulged in eating human flesh were at particular risk;[2] the legend appears to have reinforced the practice of cannibalism as a taboo.

A thug from the bayou releases horror in the deep backwoods after soliciting the services of a nefarious voodoo witch for protection - giving rise to a terrifying creature of Cajun folklore.

After a convict disappears, parole officer Claude Bruneaux investigates - only to discover the curse plaguing the tiny swamp community. An unlikely hero with his own demons, he races to unlock the mystery which has summoned the beast. With nothing to lose, Bruneaux struggles between his own trial of finding peace within and getting out alive beyond what waits for him in the murky bayou.

Diggin’ The Extended Preview Of CW ‘The Originals’

THE CW UPFRONTS 2013I am so into CW’s supernatural line-up that it should be embarrassing but it isn’t. I love the shows, the stories, the actors, all of it. ‘The Originals’ is proving to be yet another that will occupy my television time. I am so diggin’ the new extended preview of the series. Check it out below. ‘The Originals’ stars Joseph Morgan (“The Vampire Diaries,” Immortals) as Klaus, Daniel Gillies (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Saving Hope”) as Elijah, Claire Holt (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Pretty Little Liars”) as Rebekah, Phoebe Tonkin (“The Vampire Diaries,” “The Secret Circle”) as Hayley, Charles Michael Davis (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Switched at Birth”) as Marcel, Daniella Pineda (The Fitzgerald Family Christmas, “Homeland”) as Sophie, Leah Pipes (“The Deep End,” Sorority Row) as Cami and Danielle Campbell (StarStruck, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection) as Davina. You can catch it this October on CW-with my 'Supernatural'!

Family is power. The Original Vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together, always and forever. Now, centuries have passed, and the bonds of family are broken. Time, tragedy and hunger for power have torn the Original Family apart. When Klaus Mikaelson, the original vampire-werewolf-hybrid, receives a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans, he returns to the city his family helped build. Klaus’ questions lead him to a reunion with his diabolical former protégé, Marcel, a charismatic vampire who has total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Determined to help his brother find redemption, Elijah follows Klaus and soon learns that the werewolf Hayley has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history and has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie.

Tensions between the town’s supernatural factions are nearing a breaking point as Marcel commands his devoted followers and rules with absolute power. For Klaus, the thought of answering to his powerful protégé is unthinkable, and he vows to reclaim what was once his – the power, the city and his family. While they wait to see if their sister, Rebekah, will leave Mystic Falls and join them, Klaus and Elijah form an uneasy alliance with the witches to ensure that New Orleans will be ruled by THE ORIGINALS once again.

Diggin’ The “Remix” Featurette Behind The Scenes Of FOX’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’

Sleepy-Hollow-Title‘Sleepy Hollow’ is one of the new fall shows that is marked for my calendar. I have been eager to check it out since the first teases and word came out about the adventure/drama/horror series. The latest behind-the-scenes featurette “Remix” just adds to my excitement for the show. Check it out below. ‘Sleepy Hollow’ premieres on FOX September 16th @ 9.

Fox’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’ takes the Irving Washington tale and expands upon it in the most sinister rivalry possible, then throws it into the 21st century. Ichabod Crane(Tom Mison; Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to find that the world is on the brink of destruction and he is humanity’s last hope, forcing him to team up with a contemporary police officer (Nicole Beharie; 42, Shame) to unravel a mystery that dates back to the founding fathers.

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Festival To Ops (Goddess Of Abundance)

Abundance
AUGUST 25TH FESTIVAL TO OPS:

On this day in Ancient History, the Saturnalia festival continued for the Romans, with merriment, gambling, and role reversals. This is also one of the days in which the Roman chthonic goddess Ops was honored with a festival named for her. Ops was the goddess of abundance, who came to be associated with Rhea/Gaia (Earth mother-titan), Demeter/Ceres (grain goddess), and her daughter Kore/Persephone/Proserpina. She was often paired with the god Consus at whose festival, in the early legends of Rome, the Sabine women were seized by the lusty young bachelors of the recently-founded city of Rome. She was also paired with Saturnus perhaps because of their festivals' overlap.

It was believed that Ops was the wife of Saturnus by some, Her worship was intimately connected with that of her husband Saturnus, for she had both temples and festivals in common with him; she had, however, also a separate sanctuary on the Capitol, and in the vicus jugarius, not far from the temple of Saturnus. Ops is associated with peace, plenty, and an abundant harvest. She was the protectress of every thing connected with agriculture. Her abode was in the earth, and hence those who invoked her, or made vows to her, used to touch the ground. And as she was believed to give to human beings both their place of abode and their food, newly-born children were recommended to her care. Ops was also invoked to extinguish harmful, dangerous fires.
