Pagan Festival Shout Out: Festival Of Vejovis

Vejovis (sometimes spelt Vediovis) was an obscure Roman deity. ... He was celebrated with festivals on 1 January, 7 March, and 21 May, but the nature of these festivals, as with the rest of the god's cult, is unknown.

Vejovis (sometimes spelt Vediovis) was an obscure Roman deity. He is poorly attested in both written sources and archaeology, and his nature is debated by scholars. His name is related to Jove (Jupiter), and some authors described him as either a ‘little Jupiter’ or ‘anti-Jupiter.’

Vejovis was often invoked during times of war. One such invocation is preserved in Macrobius’ 5th century CE Saturnalia which was used by dictators or generals to devote enemy cities. and armies to destruction. Vejovis was portrayed as a young man, holding a bunch of arrows, pilum, (or lightning bolts) in his hand, and accompanied by a goat. Romans believed that Vejovis was one of the first gods to be born. He was a god of healing, and became associated with the Greek Asclepius. He was mostly worshipped in Rome and Bovillae in Latium.

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Iroquois Maple Ceremony

Iroquois Maple Ceremony:
In thanksgiving for the Maple tree and its sugar. Iroquois believe Awenhai/Sky Woman bore the twin brothers Thahonhiawakon/Order and Tawiskaron/Chaos.

The Maple Moon fell around the first month of the spring – early to mid March – in time for the maple trees to give plenty of the wonderful sap for the people to enjoy (Haudenosaunee people lived according to the lunar calendar, counting 13 moons of 28 days each). A Maple Sugar Festival was held in order to thank the Creators. People performed sacred dances and faith-keepers would give thanksgiving speeches, burn tobacco, letting the smoke rise to the world of the Sky Spirits, carrying the gratitude to the creators.

There is a common myth, with many tribal variations, that the Creator originally made life too easy for his People, with maple trees having a syrup that flowed year round. One day, Glooskap (this name has many variations) arrived at a village and found it strangely quiet. No children or dogs came to greet him, the gardens were over grown with weeds, and the cooking fires were dead. He found the villagers lying in the maple grove, with the delicious sap running into their mouths from the trees.
Glooskap had special powers. Using a birch bark bucket, filled with water from lake, he rose above the trees and filled the trees with water until the sap ran thin. Then he encouraged his People of the village with a fiery speech. In this exhortation, he berated them for being lazy, and said as punishment the Creator was going to have the sap run only in the late winter. But, he urged them to take heed that when this happened, they would still be able to enjoy this special sweet, though only at this special time of year.

New Anthology Series 'The Dark Collection" Launches Crowd Funding Campaign

On February 19th, 'The Dark Collection', a new anthology series, launched on crowd-funding site Indiegogo. This new anthology series is comprised of original short films in the horror, thriller, supernatural and suspense genres. It is described as similar to 'Black Mirror' and 'The Twilight Zone'.

Kenny Wright, creator of THE DARK COLLECTION, explains: “In the past few years, anthology series have been popping up on all of the various multimedia platforms. But, they’ve all been specifically genre based. No series has yet attempted to blend horror, sci-fi, the supernatural, drama, suspense and thrillers under one series… that is until now. After years of developing this anthology project, we are excited to share it with the world, and Indiegogo is the best platform to help us share our project with the world.  We aim to gain support from a large audience and reach our goals, so that we can bring this project to life.
Although this series is built around award winning and buzzworthy screenplays, it’s important to acknowledge the amazing crew of film makers behind this series. We also have great talent attached. Without this team of passionate and experienced film industry professionals, this project could not be a reality.
Overall, The Dark Collection is the only new anthology series that’s based on screenplays that have ALL placed highly in film festivals & screenwriting competitions within the past two years. These stories are proven to be buzzworthy, and they have already attracted industry attention. This series offers a variety of chilling cinematic tales not available anywhere else. And it is our true goal to make something that can be appreciated and enjoyed by everyone.”
