4-2-READ

Arriving in September is LOVE BITES (Thomas Dunne Books) by Adrienne Barbeau, which glimpses into the life of Ovsanna Moore, a renowned horror film legend and Hollywood producer who’s out for blood—literally. Barbeau’s own notoriously seasoned film career as a scream queen no doubt provides some insight and fuels this sharp satire on the bloodsucking nature of Hollywood. Plus we get werewolves as paparazzi and other sleazy film biz “monsters.” LOVE BITES marks volume II in the actress’ VAMPYRES OF HOLLYWOOD series.

THE REPLACEMENT (Razorbill/Penguin Group) by Brenna Yovanoff dares to mix a little bit of both. The book hits shelves September 21 and focuses on Mackie Doyle, an undead “Replacement” left in the crib of a human baby. With 16 years past, some fatal allergies to iron, blood and consecrated ground render him out of place and struggling for belonging in the human world. Yovanoff’s first novel is being described as a potent, bloody cocktail of “EDWARD SCISSORHANDS meets THE CATCHER IN THE RYE.”
Set for an October launch is JOHNNY HALLOWEEN: TALES OF THE DARK SEASON (Cemetery Dance) by Norman Partridge, a collection of several stories that revisit Halloween frights both past and present. Paranoia pervades a small town where no one is beyond suspicion and residents sleep with one eye open. Kind of hard blaming them for feeling at least slightly outnumbered with one story titled “Satan’s Army.”

Newly conjured from the mind of former children’s book author Susan Heyboer O’Keefe is FRANKENSTEIN’S MONSTER (Three Rivers Press), due in October. With this mad revenge tale, O’Keefe gives us a continuation of the creation whose fate we never knew in Mary Shelley’s original classic, when the monster kidnaps the persecuting Robert Walton’s niece as the ultimate ransom.

Synopsis

Buffy Summers and her Slayer army have suffered heavy losses throughout Season Eight and faced scores of threats new and old, but the one mystery connecting it all has been the identity of the Big Bad Twilight!
In this penultimate volume of Season Eight, New York Times bestselling novelist and comics writer Brad Meltzer (The Book of Lies, Identity Crisis) joins series artist Georges Jeanty in beginning the buildup to the season finale in the story line that finally reveals the identity of Twilight! In the aftermath of the battle with Twilight's army, Buffy has developed a host of new powers, but when will the other shoe drop, and will it be a cute shoe, or an ugly one? Still reeling from the losses of war, Willow goes looking for missing allies, and discovers a horrifying truth about several of the Slayer army's recent ordeals. Adding to the mayhem is the unexpected return of Angel, in his Season Eight debut!
This volume also features two stories from series creator and executive producer Joss Whedon! In the Willow one-shot, Whedon and Fray artist Karl Moline reveal for the first time what Buffy's witchy best friend was up to between Seasons Seven and Eight, with a mind-blowing cameo by a frequently requested character. And in "Turbulence," Joss spotlights the complicated relationship between Buffy and Xander with a conversation that changes it forever.

Synopsis

Zombies, ghouls, vampires, gangsters; pursuit, betrayal, death—it's a globalized manga turned literature. Dead Love is Twilight with teeth.

Publishers Weekly

In this lethargic zombie tale, McFerrin (Namako: Sea Cucumber) confuses stalking for love and beautiful prose for a meaningful plot. When Erin Orison, a talented young dancer, travels to Japan in search of an audition with a renowned choreographer, she becomes embroiled in a murderous double-crossing conspiracy involving the Yakuza and the mysterious Consortium. Her brief affair with a Yakuza assassin leads to her apparent death and subsequent resurrection as a zombie. Somehow maintaining a measure of free will, she tries to escape the various forces seeking her, stymied at every turn by a supposedly lovesick corpse-hopping ghoul. The detached narration, passive protagonist, and oddly anticlimactic ending are symptoms of an overall failure to turn an interesting idea into a compelling narrative. The hardcover edition includes a 16-page manga not seen by PW. (Sept.)

3 Foreign Films That Rocked Available on DVD

There  are 3 really awesome movies that have been made that I watched and wish I either new the language or that they were in english...
They are really good movies...
A really awesome Russian movie about supernatural warfare, kinda like Underworld type but more X-men-y.
THE SETTING: In the world that is modern Moscow, there exists a parallel realm known as the Gloom (kind of like the Astral Plane). Certain humans with special powers can pass in and out of the Gloom. They are known as the Others and have co-existed with humans for as long as humanity has existed. The Others are soldiers in the Eternal War, the struggle between dark and light. Light Others protect mankind from Dark Others, most of whom are vampires. Light Others and Dark Others currently live within a Truce.

THE LEGENDS: A Legend says that there existed in ancient Byzantium, a Virgin who became cursed. Wherever she went, misfortune would follow. The force of the curse opened a vortex of damnation around her, and with it, the first forces of Darkness were born into the world. Warriors of Light rose up to fight them, and the great battle between Light and Dark began. Legend tells of the day thousands of years ago when the two armies met on the bridge. Geser, Lord of the Light, and Zavulon, General of the Darkness, faced each other, and neither one would give way. Eventually, Lord Geser realized that the armies were equally matched, and he knew that, unless the fighting stopped, every last soul would perish, so he stopped the battle and forged a truce. These things were decreed. No Other could be forced to Good or Evil without choosing freely, and once the choice is made, it is binding. The soldiers of the Light would be called Night Watch, making sure that Dark Others obeyed the truce, and the soldiers of Darkness would be called Day Watch, to do the same. Another group, composed of the most powerful individuals of both Watches, would be known as the Inquisition. It would be their duty to watch over both Watches, and so the balance would be kept for centuries to come. But one day, an Other would come, more powerful than any before him. Like all Others, he would have to choose between Light and Dark. If this Great Other takes the side of Light, Light will triumph. But the Seers say he will choose Darkness. Legend also says that the Final Battle between good and evil will be heralded by the reappearance of the Virgin.

A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies.

Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.

"True Blood" Post Mortem Ep. 34

"Dead Cert"( 2010) Movie DVD

Given the seemingly never ending popularity of the Brit gangster film, it was always inevitable that sooner or later someone would take the next logical step and combine it with the horror genre. “Dead Cert” does just that, following in the footsteps of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriquez’s classic “Dusk Till Dawn” by throwing vampires into the mix. Directed by Steve Lawson (“Just For The Record”), the film comes with a cast list that reads like a who’s who of Brit genre talent, including Craig Fairbrass (“Rise Of The Footsoldier”), Billy Murray (“Essex Boys”), Dexter Fletcher (“Kick-Ass”), Steven Berkoff (“44 Inch Chest”), Dave Legeno (“Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince”), top character actor Jason Flemying (“Clash Of The Titans”) and even a bonus in the form of a cameo, from the one and only Danny Dyer (“Basement”). The film now arrives on DVD via Momentum Pictures, coming complete with a making of featurette and audio commentary.

Charisma Carpenter in "The Human Factor"

She will forever be Cordelia Chase to me, but Charisma Carpenter has moved on.
She is currently in need of saving in Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables”, and “Boondock Saints” vigilante badass Sean Patrick Flanery (sans Norman Reedus) have join the cast of “The Human Factor”, a thriller that will also mark tough guy Michael Madsen’s directorial debut.
In “The Human Factor”, Carpenter will play Lori Stoltz, a character described as a “determined and strong-willed newspaper reporter”, while Flanery will play Eric O’Neill, a renegade police detectives (are there any other kind) determined to get to the truth. The film’s plot has the duo joining forces to uncover the disappearance of homeless people in New York City.
Production on “The Human Factor” is scheduled for sometime next year.
