Darker Loves: Tales Of Mystery And Regret By James Dorr
Book Worth Reading:
"Pulp Fantasy, supernatural horror, magical realism, folklore retold and revitalized -- these are just some of the elements Dorr draws upon to create worlds and characters at once recognizable and strange. A hybrid of fantasy and storytelling, these 14 stories and 13 poems (reprints and originals) are equal parts of nightmare and dream unified by a persistent sense of awe... Dorr's fictions nod to literary traditions without playing slave to them, resulting in what I can only describe as modern myths universal in theme while intimate in approach." - William P. Watch “The Perfect House” Via Facebook Right Now!
Directed by Kris Hulbert and Randy Kent “The Perfect House” is taking an innovative approach to marketing this horror film. Right now you can watch the gory and scary film through Facebook. “The Perfect House” franchise depicts true horror and the anonymity it hides behind. Through a rotating cast of inhabitants and time periods the movie explores true evil and the motives behind it.
Not every house was meant to be a home. Some houses are just born bad. The Perfect House franchise is the story of such a house. All three films and "TPH Origins: John Doesy" intertwine in any order to tell a single story about the life and death of the Perfect House. Each film in the franchise tells separate segments of a seemingly perfect home that is consistently on the market for new occupants. Adding to this unique franchise are the different styles that each installment is shot in and the original way each film connects together.
The original film gives the back story of three home owners spread out over several decades. Filmed as an homage to horror, every story is shot with the horror influences of the time period that each home owner occupies the house. The second film gives us the stories of what happens before and after the first film, and reveals someone desperately working to uncover the secrets of the Perfect House. In the third installment, the birth and death of the house is front and center as the secret origins of the house are finally revealed. The franchise's most popular and prolific killer, John Doesy, takes over with his own franchise. "TPH Origins: John Doesy" delves into the childhood and traumatic experiences that ultimately bring Doesy to the door step of the Perfect House. The Doesy franchise will follow his weekly routine of psychological and physical torture, which claims the lives of over 200 victims during his five year reign of terror.
These franchises will have fans spending years exploring each film in an effort to discover all the secrets of The Perfect House.

Solaris RIsing Science Fiction Anthology Series Back!
ebook Worth Reading:
From Solaris Books:
“In November 2011 we re-launched the Solaris Book of New Science Fiction series as Solaris Rising. Ian Whates did an incredible job of assembling 19 outstanding stories; they had no theme, except to demonstrate brilliant writing and show how amazing and varied SF can be. The response to the collection, both critically and commercially, has been astounding. Amazing. Better than we hoped.
So of course we had Ian working on Solaris Rising 2 as quickly as possible. That means we have SR2 to be published in early 2013.
2013!
We weren’t sure if we, let alone readers, could wait that long, so then we decided to give Ian some news. We were too impatient to wait, we wanted another collection sooner, halfway between SR1 and SR2. After some arm-twisting, Ian – who has an amazing ability to bring the best stories out of the most talented writers – was onboard. The writing had to be just as brilliant and you can’t just magic these things up, so this collection would be half the size – 9 stories – and only available in ebook, thereby circumnavigating the long lead times of physical publishing and distribution. Just one thing left to decide, what shall we call it? Well, it’s obvious really: Solaris Rising 1.5.
Ian delivered it to us last month and once again we’ll be publishing the most amazing collection of authors and fantastic breadth of stories. We’ll be publishing it Tuesday July 17th. Hold on to your hats (and ereaders).”
Solaris Rising 1.5, featuring:
Adam Roberts, Aliette de Bodard, Gareth L. Powell, Mike Resnick, Sarah Lotz, Phillip Vine, Tanith Lee, Paul Cornell, and Paul di Filippo.

AUTONOMY PICTURES NURTURES, PRODUCES AND QUENCHES ITS THIRST FOR GENRE
FILM WITH BLOOD FOR IRINA. Chris Alexander, editor of Fangoria magazine, makes directorial debut with a haunting vampire tale. IRINA is the genre label's first film production.
Writer, journalist and FANGORIA magazine editor Chris Alexander makes his directorial feature film debut for Autonomy Pictures with "BLOOD FOR IRINA," a psychological, experimental vampire tale. Alexander
approached Autonomy Pictures with a micro-budget proposal, the desire to make a personal horror film, a fever dream inspired by Herzog,Rollin and Franco. The film was shot in five days at a crumbling 70 year old waterfront motel set for demolition in Toronto, Canada.
Autonomy Pictures executive producers Derek Curl ("HOUSE OF THE DEVIL," "STAKE LAND"), David Gregory ("THE THEATRE BIZARRE," "PLAGUE TOWN") and Lewis Tice (Danger After Dark), already impressed with Alexander's revitalization of Fangoria since taking over as
editor-in-chief, were excited to see what he would do with a genre-based underground concept, budget and schedule. The film is currently in post-production and will hit film festivals later this year.
About "BLOOD FOR IRINA"
Irina (Shauna Henry) is dying. A predator who stalks streets at night
looking for blood, she has lived over a century; tormented by memory,
living in a run-down motel by the sea, Irina has reached the end. Her
perceptions skewed, her body and mind revolting against themselves,
she waits for an exit.
Her private hell is echoed by the motel manager (David Goodfellow, who
also co-produced), driven by an obsession to protect Irina and keep
her secrets safe, and a broken prostitute (Carrie Gemmell) whose
desperate plight may be worse than Irina¹s. It's the tale of three
people living a life on the fringe, trapped in world of literal and
figurative decay.

“The Borneo Incident” is a documentary styled film directed by Michael Helfman and starring Henry Golding, Fay Hokulani, Mitch Ross, Rob Gilliland featuring Dennis Lau, Hansen Lee, Daphne Iking and Carmen Soo. Check out the trailer below and decide if you can handle the adventure or not. From what I can gather from the teaser trailer this is part travel adventure and part supernatural horror that may just prove that footage styled films will thrive forever, much like a few predecessors did. “Grave Encounters, Paranormal Activity” and The Blair Witch Project” just to name a few. Based on this view I think I may like this movie.

New Image From Set Of “Carrie” Movie
Probably one of the most buzzed about remakes today is the “Carrie” remake. If you can actually call it that. This film is exciting because it may actually be the first time we see a true attempt to bring the original story to the screen with little if any compromise. For me at the start of hearing about this remake I was not that impressed, considering how many remakes have came out of late I felt this would be no big deal. Now I have hope for the world of ‘remakes’ with what is reported to be happening with this film. Not to mention that after seeing Chloe Moretz in “The Texas Killing Field” and “Let Me In” it is clear she is no ordinary actress. Much like here few adult counterparts she has been able to bring to the screen a dark haunting feel to her characters that is only achieved after many many years of acting. So I cannot what to see her ‘Carrie Darkly’ take on the main character in this remake.

Lightning arced across the night sky. In its flash, the Sagebrook water tower stood like a gleaming white beacon above the trees on the hill. Ten seconds later, thunder rolled in behind it, the way every event has an echo that follows.
Five figures scurried along the catwalk around the tower, one of the old-fashioned kinds, where a squat cylinder with a conical hat sat on six spindly steel legs a few hundred feet in the air. A newer tower served the people’s water needs, but the old girl was an icon for the Long Island town, so the trustees kept it painted white and emblazoned with the “Sagebrook-Founded on 1741” logo to remind themselves of their heritage. Once per year, the logo changed to celebrate the graduation of the Whitman High senior class.
The boys on the catwalk were going to see that this year it changed twice. These seniors had committed more than their fair share of pranks; stolen street signs, a tap into the high school PA system, swapping the state flag in front of school with the Jolly Roger. But this stunt would top them all
They had all met in the sixth grade, where their teacher had dubbed them “The Dirty Half Dozen” due to their inseparability and penchant for trouble. (The title had stuck.) They hadn’t done anything as dangerous as tonight’s foray, but anything worth a good laugh was worth doing.
“Who’s got the red?” Bob whispered, though no one but the boys could be within earshot. He crouched at the base of the new banner that read “Congratulations Class of 1980” with “Go Minutemen” painted underneath in red letters. Bob was rail thin with an unruly head of brown hair that consented to a part on the right and little else. An unlit cigarette dangled from the corner of his mouth.
“Right here,” Paul said. He handed Bob a can of red spray paint. Paul stood several inches taller than the rest of the boys and his broad shoulders made the narrow catwalk a tight fit. He wore his Minutemen football team jacket, though Dave had told him the white leather sleeves would look like two glow worms crawling across the tower at night. His hair was cropped close and he sported the shadow of what he euphemistically called a moustache.
A blast of cold wind hit the tower. The snaps on Paul’s jacket hit the metal railing with a reverberating ping.
A third boy, Jeff, hung over the catwalk railing. He had a long face with ears that had stuck out just enough for a good round of elementary school ribbing. He held his New York Mets ball cap tight as he looked down at the perimeter fence. A ten-year-old Olds Vista Cruiser station wagon idled near the hole in the fence. There was a slight lope to the modified V8’s rumbling exhaust through the turbo mufflers. The headlights were off, but the parking lights lit the edges of the car. Jeff spoke into a cheap Japanese walkie talkie.
“Dave,” he said. “What the hell are you doing with the lights on?”
“Damn,” Dave answered from the Vista. “Sorry man.” The marker lights in the car went dark. “It’s clear down here.”
“At two a.m. it had better be,” said Ken, a red headed kid with a rash of freckles across his cheekbones. He slipped behind Jeff to join Bob and Paul. He brushed against Jeff’s butt as he squeezed by.
“Watch it, homo,” Jeff said.
“It’s your ass,” Ken said. “It’s so enticing. We’re here in the dark…”
“Hey,” Bob snapped. “You girls want to shut the hell up and start spraying?”
Twin lightning flashes lit a big cloud like a floating anvil-shaped lantern. Thunder crackled across the sky five seconds later.
Marc, the last boy on the tower sat at the opening where the access ladder met the catwalk. His feet dangled through the opening. Both hands gripped the catwalk rail. He was the slightest of the group and he had to brace himself against a renewed gust of wind that rocked his thick curly black hair back and forth. There were only four cans of paint, so he could have stayed in the car on watch with Dave. But there was something to prove by climbing the tower, though he wasn’t sure of it was to the others or to himself. The journey did enlighten him about one thing. He was definitely acrophobic.
“We better hurry,” Marc said. “We don’t want to be up here in the rain.”
“You said we’d have clear weather,” Paul said to Ken as Ken handed him a can of white spray paint.
“No,” Ken said. “I said there was a twenty percent chance of a shower. When I have a few free hours, I’ll explain probability to you, Jockstrap.”
“There’s a one hundred percent probability I’m going to throw you all off this damn tower if you don’t shut up,” Bob said. The spray can in his hand started to hiss. “If we don’t do this tonight, they’ll have time to paint over it before graduation. Let’s go.”
“All for none…” Paul said.
“And none for all,” the group finished. The teen’s unofficial motto, in its sarcastic denial of camaraderie, completely represented theirs.
Paul, Jeff and Ken joined in and the side of the tower sounded like a den of spitting cobras. The “G” in “Go” lost a few of its edges. A “B” took shape on the tower’s side.
Another bolt of lightning arced from the anvil cloud to the ground. This time the thunder reported only a second after. The smell of rain wafted in on the breeze. A spray of fat drops splattered against the tank like machine gun fire.
“Hey, guys,” Dave’s voice said from the walkie-talkie in Jeff’s belt. “It’s starting to rain down here. Is it raining up there?”
“No,” Ken answered to himself with a roll of his eyes. “It always rains from the ground up.”
Jeff gave a quick look at the peak of the tower, then at the approaching cloud. “This thing is one hell of a conductor. We should…”
Lightning split the sky above their heads. The thunder was simultaneous and sharp, so loud that the boys could feel it rumble.
“Hang on, wussies,” Bob said. He gave the tower one last blast from his can. He stood up and leaned back against the railing. “Go Minutemen” had been transformed into “Blow Minutemen.”
Paul gave his “L” one final shot of red. He appraised his work with an admiring stare. “How did Ms. Kravitz ever give me a D in Art?”
Marc stood at the ladder, one foot on the first rung. “Let’s go!”
The air around them seemed to come alive, as if the molecules had decided to dance in circles around each other. The hair on the boys’ arms stood on end. Jeff’s walkie talkie buzzed like a cicada. A freezing downdraft swept the catwalk. Five heartbeats went into overdrive.
“Lay flat!’ Jeff shouted.
The boys dove for the decking. Marc, already on the ladder, just hung on.
A white light blinding as the power of God enveloped the tower. Deafening thunder blanketed the boys and the air turned hot and dry. Uncountable volts pumped through the tower as the lightning bolt ripped from the spire on the peak to the ground below. Jeff’s radio exploded in a shower of sparks and melted plastic. The boys’ bodies jittered against the catwalk decking, belt buckles clanging against the steel. Clothing smoked and there was the disgusting smell of burnt hair. The split second seemed to last forever.

New Trailer For “Iron Sky” Shows True Genius Of The Film
Okay, I have seen the first trailer and promo stuff for “Iron Sky” a film that had Nazi’s flee the defeat in Europe to the dark side of the Moon. There have been a lot of Nazi themed horror and sci-flicks lately. Mostly you know it is only for the shock value that the Swastika has, until you watch this new trailer for the film. It is brilliant the vision of this movie has unfolded with more footage that shows not only the past few years of ridiculousness of Politics, Social Upheaval, Pop Culture absurdity. Combine that with terrorism and Alien invasion of an Identifiable kind and you have the awesomeness that is “Iron Sky”. This film amps my faith in original and inventive story ideas.
In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers. When American astronaut James Washington (Christopher Kirby) puts down his Lunar Lander a bit too close to the secret Nazi base, the Moon Führer (Udo Kier) decides the glorious moment of retaking the Earth has arrived sooner than expected. Washington claims the mission is just a publicity stunt for the President of the United States (Stephanie Paul), but what else could the man be but a scout for the imminent attack by Earth forces? The Fourth Reich must act! Two Nazi officers, ruthless Klaus Adler (Götz Otto) and idealistic Renate Richter (Julia Dietze), travel to Earth to prepare the invasion. Dueling Minds Anthology
Book Worth Reading:
A very unique inspirational based concept. One Image shown to six different authors who then create there own story based on that image. In this case it was a haunting and whimsical piece from from acclaimed artist Alan M. Clark.
Where do you get your ideas?
It's probably the most common question an author gets asked during his or her career. This anthology isn't meant to answer that question, but it is designed to give readers a glimpse into how the imagination works. Featuring stories by Brian Keene, Gary A. Braunbeck, Tom Piccirilli, Tim Lebbon, Jenny Orosel, and Gerard Houarner! Cover artwork by Alan M. Clark (the subject of inspiration) and Interior artwork by Erin S. Wells.

“Dead Crossroads”: Real Places, Stories And Fears
This at the moment has nothing to do with American interest other than those of us who are fans of real ghost stories and those shows dedicated to exploration with documentation of such places where the story can be found. A Rue Morgue venture focusing on haunted locations around France hosted by explorer and journalist Fabien Delage called “Dead Crossroads” is seeking funding to help bring this unique “series” to light. The show will focus on areas vaguely familiar and barely researched across France. This is exciting because there are very few places left on this planet to explore and investigate, plus France is one of the few countries that for some reason has very little representation in Western culture but a very large influence. It is one of the few European cultures that has originated our myths and legends next to Romania and Germany. So there is a very strong desire to bring forth more French based media, not only with paranormal television but in horror genre media alike. So check out the Facebook page and if your able hit up the campaign. Good luck to Rue Morgue and the folks behind this project, many safe and haunted travels.
Dead Crossroads is a new and innovative ghost show, a sinister travelogue that will take you to places few would suspect exist. Armed with video cameras and hiking bags, Fabien Delage – freelance artist and contributor to Rue Morgue Magazine – and French survival guide Julien Mazzitelli explore French haunted ruins, some of the grandest, oddest and unluckiest buildings in the country of France.
Like a seasoned teller of ghost stories, Fabien’s words and images reveal what lies beyond the gates and beneath the floorboards. There are many infamous haunted houses in France, places with a long story. The two explorers investigate architecture of a morbid past by shooting and photographing ; spending one day and one terrifying night in the most haunted buildings in the country. Dead Crossroads is the first film report on France ghost houses and lost treasures.
Playing with the codes of the documentary genre and the found footage aesthetics, Dead Crossroad will feature ten 15 minutes scary episodes. In each, French Horror expert Fabien Delage and his friend Julien spend an incredibly frightening night and capture on tapes some very disturbing spooks and phenomena's. Some of these footage will scare the hell out of you.
At night, in these mansions built in the mid-nineteenth century, in these abandoned, remote and forgotten places, danger can come from anywhere… Stalkers, phantoms, destructive poltergeist manifestations, strange noises and creepy bugs invasions ; the camera of Dead Crossroads captures the most unbelievable and unexplained phenomenas.
This new paranormal show documents what is left of French forbidden haunted houses with histories and wonderful shots of the haunting ruins. Included are an orphanage, an asylum, a ghost town, castles, mansions, country houses, cabins and even an old under-earth military basement.
Dead Crossroads is a handsome and nerve-racking study of the most haunting and unforgetable mansions ever to have been built in France, with hauntingly beautiful frames and accompanied by frightening historical information. Real stories, real places, real fear.
Your new haunted journey starts in 2012.

The Bleeding Room By Barry Napier
Book Worth Reading:
Some houses appear to be haunted: their ruined facades and fabled pasts lead to stories of haunts and spirits.
Some houses are legitimately haunted: ghosts that refuse to leave this world behind roam their rooms and hallways trying to recapture the life that has been taken from them.
But there are some houses that go beyond these simple haunts. There are some houses that hide secrets so dark and grisly that the very essence of evil seeps from their walls. One of these houses sits tucked away in the quiet woods of southern Virginia in the sleepy little town of Ponderbrook.
Terrence Bennet, an esteemed author, is taking his small crew to Ponderbrook to investigate the house for his next book. A skeptic at heart, he approaches the house and its history as nothing more than another spooky tale.
But he will soon learn that there is a very real evil that separates normal haunts from those that twist the mind and damn the soul. And when this evil is stirred awake, it is rarely content to stay confined to the four walls of the house in which it has grown.

A&E Snatches ‘Bates Motel’ Series
A&E are adding more steam to their recent success with scripted television. Without forcing a pilot run out of the “Psycho” prequel the channel has ordered a 10 episode package of ‘Bates Motel’. The show will offer an understanding into how Norman Bates' psyche developed and would tell the back story of the film's killer, learning of how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged him, transforming him into serial-killing motel owner. The project is not the first time a Psycho spinoff effort has been attempted. NBC aired a 90-minute TV movie titled Bates Motel in 1987.
My Review Of “An American Werewolf In London” 1981
Some movies just raise feelings of excitement and pleasure inside no matter how many times you watch the film. “An American Werewolf In London” is one of those films that no matter how many times I watch I get giddy inside as I watch that opening scene of David and Jack walking down that county road near Yorkshire Moors. Directed by John Landis this film was released as a horror/comedy in 1981. The story follows two American backpackers in England. One is devoured by a wolf and the other is only bit before villagers shoot the beast. Madness and chaos transform the survivors life as he deals with the tragedy in London Hospital. A great set up for “fish out of water” story with a macabre point of view.
The film has some very stereotypical aspects to it, the almost arrogant and foolish way that British intelligence is shown almost seems derogatory, as David must submit to foreign policies and beaurocracy. However the images of Londoners is mildly balanced and justified by the asinine shenanigans of David Kessler. The story is a funny and the negatives are minor unless you’ve seen the film like a thousand times and those idiosyncrasies are all that remain to pick at. The story stays with in a classic premise that does not rely on props or gimmicks of the time to find it’s humor which make it an easy film to watch no matter how many decades pass.
The special effects in this film are kick ass and organic. It is some of the best special effects make up work of the era. The film did not rely on cartoonish transpositions or tacky CGI which was all that was available in the 1980’s. It kept with the basic concepts and abilities of creature effects , something that I am glad to see come back into fashion in horror. There are a few scenes in this film that really stand out as far as the FX is concerned. The scene with the Nazi Werewolves slaughtering David’s family in his dream sequence is awesome and gives way to a story in the werewolf genre that I personally love. Then there is the scene when David is in the theater with all the dead whom he is responsible for. The rotting visuals are kick ass. Gross and gory and good. Plus I think this is the first time that we saw werewolves as massive beasts instead of the upright biped creature known in earlier stuff like “The Wolfman”. No need for a real wolf, the kind popular in todays shows and movies, nor is there any aspects of the standing monstrosity that is so terrifying such as in “The Howling”. This was a truly original design for the era. It made not only werewolves scary as hell beasts with almost no resemblance to man but it also made real wolves a bit more scary as well (for me anyway).
Now as far as the over all effect of this film. I still find it as watchable today as I did the first time I saw it on HBO.
As I said many a time in the past- my mom refused me theatrical horror films and regulated the television stuff until I was at least 11 years old. So I had to sneak or beg a sitter to let me watch something on HBO. “An American Werewolf In London” was something I plotted to see. I knew when it aired on a Saturday, and I knew which babysitter to favor that weekend so that I would be able to watch. It worked and I was both fascinated and scared from the first wolf attack until the final scene of David being shot in the alley. The humor, effects (especially the transformation scene) and the setting of this movie make it a true classic, American or otherwise.
