SGL Entertainment To Focus On Subject Zero In Newest Acquisition

Subject OSGL Entertainment will bring us to the dark giallo edges of horror with their latest pick up, “Subject O: Shattered Memories”. The film is directed by  Tiziano Cella and stars Cristina Lizzul, Jonathan Silvestri, Tiziano Cella, David White, Stefano Patti, Martina Palmitesta, Cinzia Susino, Laura Fimognari, Yuri Antonosante, Viviana Rondinone, Giuseppe Torre, Qiuyu Liu, Salvo Di Natale, Simone Paradiso, Lauren Jane Matic, Lorenzo De Angelis, Isabelle Awity, Carlo Fabiano and Susanna Rose. The release will be across multiple media outlets such as VOD platforms, DVD and Blu-ray.

Also check out the NSFW images and the tight trailer below. This is one that I am stoked for. The poster doesn’t really do the film justice but the trailer hits all the g spots.

Robert Williams is called by the police during a business meeting. His wife Lauren is in shock, after finding a dead man in her home. More dead bodies are found in the city the day after. The modus operandi looks the same but there’s something not quite right. Is it the same killer or a copycat? Police start investigating the mysterious murders, but it looks like someone has unleashed the perfect prototype. The question is… will they be able to keep everything under control?

Get Ready For ‘Empire Of The Dead’ - The Series

EOTDIn the vein of “Hella Yes Awesome News” it has been announced that Demarest (Tusk) will be adapting George A. Romero’s epic graphic novel Empire Of The Dead into a television series! Variety broke the story stating that Romero will write the series and longtime partner Peter Grunwald will co-write. Romero, Grunwald and Sam Englebardt, William D. Johnson of Demarest will be heading production. The announcement was made at Cannes Film Festival.

Empire Of The Dead is as iconic within the graphic novel world as “Night Of The Living Dead” is in the film world. Both by the man who slammed that final nail into the brains of pop culture solidifying the zombie apocalypse in our hearts and minds! So to have Romero and Grunwald actually physically working on this new series is frickin’ awesome as hell! I mean it would work either way but to have the creator coming in and giving it to us once more personally is well – damn it- AWESOME!

Empire Of The Dead is a 15 issue series split into 3 ACTs. ACT: Unlike Romero’s other zombie works this one has a big twist to it. The living dead come in two forms zombies and vampires. Welcome to New York City years after the undead plague has erupted...but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, don't think that everyone inside is safe! Not only do flesh-eaters roam Manhattan, but there's another ancient predator that has taken a bloody bite out of the Big Apple: vampires rule the city! But who is plotting against the Mayor? Is there a zombie uprising afoot? Who is the firecracker known as Dixie Peach? And in the pit of the bloody Circus Maximus, can anything stop the unchained fury of the zombie gladiator known as Zanzibar? It's zombies vs. vampires - with humans caught in the crossfire!

ACT II: It's zombies vs. vampires vs. an invading militia as the legendary George Romero unleashes the next chapter in his ferocious undead epic! Welcome back to a very different New York City, one that's still standing - barely - years after a world-changing undead plague. Zombies are used for sport in the arena, and vampires rule the city! But now outside forces are knocking on Manhattan's walls, and death rains down from above! What is this new threat to NYC? And what's worse for the city's few remaining normal residents: the roaming flesh-eaters who seem to be growing smarter every day...the ruling blood-suckers struggling to keep their grip on power...or the newly arrived Southern army, bent on pillaging the greatest city in the world?

ACT III:It's zombies vs vampires - with desperate citizens caught in the crossfire - as the legendary George Romero unleashes the fi nal chapter in his new undead epic! Zombie Autopsy! But is Xavier dead or undead? Dr. Penny Jones may have a nasty surprise coming her way! Who is kidnapping the children of NYC, where are they taking them, and why? The future of Manhattan may rest in the answers!

To announce the Kickstarter campaign a wicked awesome poster has been released for the film. “Alya” is directed by Elias and set to star  Nicholas Wilder, Tristan Risk. This will be a supernatural thriller with heavy drama poured in so I am thinking it will be an elevated horror story. The poster already has my attention.

Official Trailer For FOX’s ‘Scream Queens’ Released

SQCheck out the official trailer for FOX’s upcoming horror comedy ‘Scream Queens’ series. The show is directed by Ryan Murphy and stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Oliver Hudson, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Skyler Samuels, Billie Lourd, Diego Boneta, Lucien Laviscount, Glen Powell and guest stars Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas. ‘Scream Queen’ hits the airwaves this Fall!

Wallace University is rocked by a string of murders. Kappa House, the most sought-after sorority for pledges, is ruled with an iron fist (in a pink glove) by its Queen Bitch, Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts). But when anti-Kappa Dean Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) decrees that sorority pledging must be open to all students, and not just the school's silver-spooned elite, all hell is about to break loose, as a devil-clad killer begins wreaking havoc, claiming one victim, one episode at a time. Part black comedy, part slasher flick, SCREAM QUEENS is a modern take on the classic whodunit, in which every character has a motive for murder... Or could easily be the next blood-soaked casualty.

My Review Of “Live-In Fear”

Live-In FearBrandon Scullion’s “Live-In Fear” is a commendable creative effort of cult cinema, paranormal thriller, and something I call “New American Psychotica” . The story is an elaborate mixture of classic survival/grindhouse and paranormal horror. Plus Scullion even mixes in a crazy fanatical cult. “Live-In Fear” stars Arielle Brachfeld (The Haunting of Whaley House, Axeman at Cutter's Creek), Chris Dorman, Sarah Greyson and David Lautman, with Maria Olsen, Geoffrey Gould, Myles Cranford, Charlene Geisler and Nancy Wolfe bringing an American Gothic quirkiness to the neighborhood.

The story has some recognizable elements that will be familiar to horror fans from other films in this style of horror. There is a hint of Whedonism and Alan Ball that seem to influence aspects of Brandon’s story telling in “Live-In Fear”. At least to me, watching certain scenes and hearing some of the dialog, my first thought was a Whedon and Alan Ball influence. The thing about this flick is that so many different subgenres and decades of horror are noticeably influencing this mash-up nightmare. It keeps with a dark, depressed tone from the beginning to the very end.

The special effects are pretty effective and thankfully practical. I didn't recognize any major use of CGI on the paranormal aspects. This is a lower budgeted indie horror so the FX is stripped down and minimal in the film with most of the chills coming from the characters on dark personas and a collision of tragic back-stories that come to the surface and cause “Live-In Fear” to become a layered, dramatic collection of train wreck personas finally dealing with their baggage. The soundtrack stays as creepy and depressed as the characters and subject matter.

Overall “Live-In Fear” is a decent horror film that could easily become a modern cult classic. It has some flaws, I heard some dialog that comes a bit too close to other past material. Some is delivered in the same style for the same dramatic effect. Not sure if it was intended and meant for a sort of homage but it kind of drags the originality and creativity down just a tad. That being said, “Live-In Fear” has a cool, complex story with a great mix of stylized concepts that pull from several classic subgenres. And the added visual, almost psychedelic transitions were impressive. “Live-In Fear” is worth checking out.

My Review Of “Harvest”

HarvestMartin Sonntag and Kim Sønderholm’s horror short “Harvest” is a gory, “wicked games” take on the urban legend of organ hunters. The film stars Sønderholm as a predator of sorts in dire circumstances. Questioning his current situation and yet forced to continue on a dark and fatale journey into the world of organ harvesting for the black market. “Harvest” also stars Siff Andersson, Slavko Labovic, Julie Kunz and the legendary Lloyd Kaufman who provides an intro into the film.

The story is a simple urban legend with a twist at the end that provides some dark satirical relief. The film keeps with a serious, straight forward tone through most of the film. Kim Sønderholm is somewhat self analyzing but for the most part remains stoic. Siff Anderson brings in a little more energy with an “all in”, “play the game” attitude that balances the drama and character interactions. Both give pretty realistic performances in “Harvest”. Sønderholm and Martin Sonntag make a great team.

The special effects are a mix bag of tricks from splatter-gore heavy moments complete with body parts being shredded on screen. Not literally but just destroyed by the shear exploitative means used to give us our horror. The practical effects work at times and at other times look really fake or only barely effective. That will be a coin toss whether or not horror fans will go for it or not. For me personally there are enough moments when the effects do work for me to enjoy this short little morality nightmare.
