Provocator and Thirty06 have announced the SoCal Premiere of Brad Michael Elmore's Bit at the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival. Actress and activist Nicole Maines (The CW's "Supergirl") headlines the cast as Laurel, a small town trans teen who heads to the City of Angels to find a new life.  Instead, she meets a gang of intersectional feminist vampires led by Duke (Diana Hopper, Amazon's "Goliath"). Not knowing if they want to kill her, befriend her or turn her, Laurel learns to understand the love and dangers of her new group of friends.

A pulsing soundtrack, impossibly cool style, sharp wit, and a little camp breathe life into this fresh take on blood-thirsty ladies of the night. Bit will screen at Outfest Los Angeles at the TCL Chinese Theatre July 26th.

The cast and crew will be available throughout the festival for press opportunities.

Making her feature debut, Maines is joined by Diana Hopper ("Goliath"), James Paxton (Boogeyman Pop, "Eyewitness"), Zolee Griggs ("Wu-Tang: An American Saga"), Friday Chamberlain, Char Diaz, Greg Hill (Operation Finale) and M.C. Steyn.

As soon as she graduates from her small town, small minded high school, trans teen Laurel immediately sets her sights on Los Angeles, seeking a bigger, more accepting world. As fate would have it, on Laurel's first night out, she ends up at a warehouse party with a mysterious punk group of girls. Her luck turns when she is attacked and left for dead by the group's leader, Duke. Laurel awakens to discover she has been bitten and may be turning into a vampire. Duke invites her to join the vampire squad, if she can live by their rules: eat what you kill and no turning men. Faced with the decision to join the girls, Laurel becomes entrenched in their ways while beginning to doubt whether or not she's ready to become one of the undead.

Mia’s booked it and expects her wedding party to transform this now dilapidated summer camp into the wedding venue of her dreams. As her friends utterly fail to execute her master plan, they also begin disappearing.  But nothing will stop Mia from having a perfect wedding, even when someone starts texting her to hide the bodies.

My Review Of "The Possession Diaries"

"The Possession Diaries" is directed by Juan Frausto and stars Eileen Dietz, Johnny Ortiz,N Gugliemi, Monica Engesser, and Delilah Cotto alongside James Russo and Katherine Munroe. The paranormal thriller blends video diary style documentary with traditional demonic horror.

Playing with a Ouija board is dangerous, and college student Rebecca Clarkson is now documenting the proof, as day by day a demon takes possession of her while a webcam audience watch the horrific event.

The story is a stereotypical paranormal tale combined with classic demonic possession. Told from a video diary point-of-view, sporadically the film jumps to the more conventional third person. It seems to be at the descretion of the director. More likely an attempt to break up the monotony of the faux found footage moments. I actually liked it, it gave a bit more credence to the horror elements.

As for character development and acting, "The Possession Diaries" misses the mark on both accounts. The lead seems as sterile and devoid of emotion as a robot, both in jester and inflection. The performance came off as a bad audition tape. The other characters were barely visible bit players, save the priest. His character had the potential to really sell this low budget nightmare. Unfortunately it just never happened. All except the last scenes. It was impactful, dark, emotionally chilling and I felt it totally!

Special effects are the typical paranormal activity tricks, screeching spooky sounds, stuff moving and shadowy surroundings. There is some moments it works nicely but a lot of the stuff is pre-2000 gamer CGI stuff. The possession portrayal was mediocre at best, mostly just comical- not in the good way. Everything seen and heard in "The Possession Diaries" is base material already overdone in this subgenre. Overall the film isn't anything to rush to experience, but maybe a free flick on Redbox or Vudu, and a little time to waste. (2/5)

My Review Of "Saint Bernard"

From legendary FX Master Gabe Bartalos, "Saint Bernard" stars Jason Dugre (“Bosch”), Katy Sullivan (“Last Man Standing”), Peter Iasillo Jr., Bob Zmuda and Warwick Davis. It is day trip into ultra-shock surrealism, driven by high concept and experimental theatre.

A classical musical conductor unravels into the abyss of insanity. Bernard begins a journey into madness as is dream of becoming a composer is disrupted by mental illness. One that sees spiral out of control.

"Saint Bernard" is a highly stylized stitching of nightmares and dreamscapes meant to express the main character's dire circumstance. The idea of Bernard's dream devoured by unseen force from within is brilliant. Unfortunately the film never develops a cohesive, recognizable story to hold on to while we journey down this disturbing rabbit hole with Bernard. I love experimental theatre and surreal art, however in this instance the art steps on and over the opportunity for any story telling. It all fits better with some avant garde rock video.

Now it is very clear that the real intent of "Saint Bernard" is simply to display the very talented, brilliant ability of Gabe Bartalos. His work is among the best the FX industry has to offer, and despite the fact that this movie is devoid of story and character connectivity, it shows off some killer concepts and prosthetic skills. Not to mention awesome creature design. All done with practical effects. Still a film this long and with such a poignant subject- mental illness, really needed more than great FX. (2/5)
