A Tricky Treat

director Patricia Chica notes, “I wanted to create an interesting metaphor, using role reversal, about how humans become voraciously consumptive for the sake of ceremonial tradition—slaughtering masses of turkeys for Thanksgiving, leveling vast acres of trees for Christmas, and harvesting fields of pumpkins for Halloween."

The cast includes Leonard Waldner, as the captive, and the sinister family members are played by Steve Brewster, Andrea Fletcher, Keira McCarthy and newcomer Marco Reilly. The short's script was written by Kamal John Iskander (Jesus Comes to Town, The Gospel according to Charlie).

Patricia Chica (director-producer), Grace Santos (producer), Byron A. Martin (producer) and Tara Kurtz  (executive producer) will participate in the exhibition at Cannes. The team will also take meetings at the Film Market regarding their next feature film projects: MontrĂ©al Girls (a coming-of-age dark comedy, written by Kamal John Iskander) and Wolverine Hotel (an edgy, dark thriller written by Canadian Andrew Lynch), both directed by Patricia Chica.

“Christmas At Dracula’s” Special Charity Event At University College Cork

SVPlogo
Christmas At Dracula’s” will premiere at a special charity screening in aid of SVP / UCC in University College Cork at the end of April. Tuesday April 21st- 24th El Diablo Productions latest film, a horror/comedy will host the charity event on campus at 8:00 pm at Boole Basement. All proceeds from the movie will go to the UCC St. Vincent de Paul Society, the oldest charity in UCC. The charity works with some of the most vulnerable and underrepresented people throughout Cork.

Think ‘ Rocky Horror Picture Show’ without the singing, think ‘ Young Frankenstein ’ or ‘ The Producers ’ and you get an idea of what ‘ Christmas at Dracula’s ’ is about! This low budget Irish feature is the brain child of first time Feature Writer/Director Simon McKeon. The 22 year old says it is an homage to B-movie kitsch , hammer horror and the old universal horror movies of the 1930’s and 40’s. Blending the different genres into a coherent film has been a labor of love for McKeon.

CADWhat started off as a funny idea when he accidentally stumbled upon a copy of ‘ The Rocky Horror Picture Show ’ as an 18 year old, has become an all consuming passion and huge learning curve! From the first draft of the script to the final finished film has been a 4 year odyssey that has taken many twists and turns along the way. “We wanted to use old school values while incorporating some aspects of modern cinema” said the young director, who’s influences include Martin Scorsese and Quintin Tarantino.

El Diablo Productions ‘ Christmas at Dracula’s ’ was shot entirely on location in Co. Cork, Ireland and utilises the beauty of the scenery and the many historic buildings of a bygone era. The film stars Conor Dwane as the eponymous Vampire, alongside seasoned actors Michael O’Dowd, David Coon, Lorraine Comiskey, John Browne, to name but a few.

Told through the eyes of The Invisible Man, Count Dracula has hit rock bottom, so with the help of his noble companion Igor, he decides to throw the greatest Christmas party of all time. He invites to this The Wolfman, Medusa, The Wicked Witch, Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and The Invisible Man. But when two killers arrive at the door, things slowly begin to spiral out of control. And Dracula's faith lies in the hands of one creature...death himself
