Born in the south, and raised from modest means, Rickey Russell has gained a strong concept and understanding of the darkness. Living with Schizotypal Disorder, writing is my way to connect and express the world around me by focusing on the one thing that I truly feel connected to-Horror! I wrote my collection of poetry as a way to release the darkness that held me for so long.   Depressions Of The Soul is that collection that I  have chosen to share with others. They were written during a time of emotional chaos and despair.

Since learning to cope with mental disorder and refusing to let it imprison me, I have also found comfort in running a Horror blog as well as expanding my love for writing into horror fiction. Demon In The Mist is my first novel. The story came to me  during a particularly heavy fog that seemed to swallow the  entire mountain community I called home. I just kept imagining a malevolent creature- a demonic monster of sorts that lurked within it-stalking me. Where did it come from?-what forces would it be driven by? One thing led to another and The Ghost Walker Tale is the resulting vision-in it’s entirety.



Demon In The Mist, my first novel.It is a story of demons, magic, relationships and enlightenment. The story is set in the Appalachians.   When Karen Ison learns of the disappearance of her neighbors she searches for answers. With the help of a stranger she soon embarks on a journey that will lead her into a world of legend and magic.

Being someone who suffers from Schizoid Type A Dissociative Disorder, and constantly finding myself walking through both the dark, and the light of life is where the "Depression Of The Soul" collection came from. It was a dark period that seemed to last for a decade, filled with moments of chaos, and emotional disparity. The only thing that helped me fight to gain control of my self was the connection, and passion I had for horror and sci-fi stories, (I know that seems counterproductive to mental well being for someone with mental disorder but that is the truth of it). That, and writing down the feelings and images that seemed to plague my mind ,is how I coped with that time in my life.

SCAVENGER
Dreams fall down crushing the mindless masses-
Falling faster from clouds of darkness-
Screaming, crying, souls in terror-
Running, fleeing, disaster burning with laughter-
Dreams fall up carrying with it skin of the dead-
Proudly triumphant for the pain it sent-
Suckling the chaos, cleansing the light-
A picture show for the horror of might-
Dreams fall faster with no care in it's speed-
Hollowing the ground and sky with greed-
Deaf to terror or pain lost in the deed-
Raven of suffering eager to feed.

FIRST PERSON

I watched as the sky dripped into blood-

I watched as it's scars brought fire to the ground-

I watched as the clouds burned black with ash-

I watched as the ground drew flame to the sky-

I ran as the rocks crumbled where I stood-

I ran as the flames grew higher and higher-

I ran as the smoke choked out the air-

I ran as the sky rained acid down-

I cried as the earth transformed to this horror-

I cried as the life fell dead all around-

I cried as the red blaze took over the earth-

And I cried at the hell that was now my life.
