Coming to DVD October 23rd from Juno Films. A woman’s body was found in an abandoned farmhouse along with a diary that documents her mental collapse and death.
“Beautiful, evocative, and ultimately heartbreaking”– The Atlantic
God Knows Where I Am is the story of Linda Bishop, a well-educated New Hampshire mother who suffered from severe bipolar disorder with psychosis, who was intermittently incarcerated and homeless, inevitably being committed for three years to a state psychiatric facility. Successfully fighting her sister’s protective attempts to be named her legal guardian, Linda was able to refuse treatment and medication, and eventually procured an early, unconditional release, despite the lack of post release planning.
Upon her release, she wandered ten miles down the road from the hospital, broke into an abandoned farmhouse and lived off of rainwater and apples picked from a nearby orchard for the next four months, through one of the coldest winters on record. Unable to leave the house, she became its prisoner, and remained there, a prisoner of her own mind, eventually starving to death.
Her body was discovered several months later and with it a diary that Linda kept documenting her journey. The diary is poignant, beautiful, funny, spiritual, and deeply disturbing. In tackling the subject matter, the filmmakers began from a social justice perspective but their focus quickly shifted to a more intimate and artistic exploration.
How does one depict the interior landscape of a person who is imprisoned by the mind? How does one build empathy for a person who is no longer alive? The story is told from a variety of perspectives, including her own, through recollection and first person narrative.
God Knows Where I Am is both a study of systemic failure and also a testament to the artistic and independent spirit of Linda Bishop. In a state known for its motto of Live Free or Die, Linda wanted to live free but given her mental illness, this proved to be a fatal decision. The film poses many provocative questions including the issue of civil liberties of the mentally ill–if one’s mind is not free, how can one truly exercise free will?

Two new posters created by renowned La Boca Design Studios have been released for "Suspiria". Oft described as psychedelic and oversaturated, La Boca creates bold, pop art that bridges styles from contemporary to camp to commercial and beyond. All of which are evident in these new metaphysical conceptual designs.
"When we received the invitation to create a poster for Suspiria we were delighted. As avid fans of Dario Argento’s 1977 Suspiria, we knew this was an adventure we had to embark on. Once we had seen the film we realized it was wasn’t really a remake at all, it’s an altogether different experience, and gloriously exhilarating and disturbing in its own unique way.” La Boca Studio has stated.
We decided to base our design around the ‘Volk’ dance performance which appears late in the movie. The dance is such a pivotal scene, full of all the right kinds of tension and energy. We set about creating the design as if it were a poster for Volk, almost so one could imagine the artwork appearing on a wall within the film itself. We wanted it to feel authentic to the movie, part of the story almost. To achieve this, the design needed to feel like it wouldn’t be out-of-place in a 1970s German dance school. For example, the teeth elements down the side of the poster are a reference to the floor tiles that feature in the reception of the school. When two posters are placed side-by-side they form an arrow just as they do on the floor.
The movement and body shapes in the routine led us to look for visual inspiration in Hindu art, specifically depictions of Nataraja, The Lord of Dance. This triggered the idea of a circular shape, representing the cycle of life. We imagined Dakota Johnson’s hair as fire representing light and dark, with her holding the fate of the dancers around her. At the center, an eye shaped opening reveals itself. All of which hopefully becomes clearer after experiencing the movie!
The typeface used for the credits is Eurostile, created by Italian designer Aldo Novarese, and used on the original poster for the 1977 film. The primary logotype is designed by the great Dan Perri, probably best known for his work on Star Wars, and a whole host of classic film art and branding.”
The final trailer for Netflix's cult based thriller "Apostle" has been released. The film premieres on October 12th and stars Dan Stevens, Michael Sheen, Kristine Forseth with Lucy Boynton, Bill Milner, Mark Lewis Jones, Elen Rhys, and Annes Elwy. "Apostle" is directed by Gareth Evans.
London, 1905, “Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult lives under the leadership of the charismatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen). As Thomas infiltrates the island’s community, he learns that the corruption of mainland society that they claim to reject has infested the cult’s ranks nonetheless – and uncovers a secret far more evil than he could have imagined. Apostle is a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it."

CANADIANA FOLK HORROR MAKING ITS FESTIVAL ROUNDS; AFTER ITS DEBUT AT THE EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL Emerging Vancouver film production company, Bad Cookie Pictures, have found success with folk horror, short film "THE DEVIL AND I". The story is set in colonial times and centers around an intimate conversation between a deeply hurt woman and an entity with a solution who comes in the form of a large black dog. Writer/Director Christopher “Topher” Graham is proudly sharing his Canadian take on Folk horror with audiences around the world. This project came with a number of challenges that Graham and his team took head on. The main challenge, of course was the time period of the story. Finding an era-appropriate location, clothing, and ensuring his actors were speaking with proper accents of the time was crucial. “I spent a full day at Fort Edmonton when I was back home visiting family and did research there,” Graham mentioned. “I learned so much about the customs, clothing and feel of the era that I ended up adjusting the script to ensure we were being true to that period in history,” he added.
The film stars Ariel Hansen (TIME HEALS NO WOUNDS, READY TO BURST), James Kingstone (WRESTLERS ONLY) and Jesse Inocalla (LA QUINCEANERA, THE ROMEO SECTION), whose stardom has been on the rise with his recent role in Netflix’s THE DRAGON PRINCE. THE DEVIL AND I was successfully funded on Indiegogo last July as part of the BAD COOKIE COMBO – a genre short film double bill featuring the work of Graham and Bad Cookie’s other co-founder Ariel Hansen.
