Bryan Singer is getting his green light on Jack the Giant Killer.
Production will begin this spring. The remake was developed by New Line as a dark re-telling of the Jack and the Beanstalk fable, with a script by Darren Lemke and Mark Bomback.

"Piranha D" Sequel Next Summer?
According to Deadline Hollywood Dimension Films has locked in a director and writers and will race to get a Piranha 3D sequel up and running quickly to hit theaters by late August, 2011. Dimension has set John Gulager to direct and Saw 3D scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write Piranha 3 DD, the sequel to last summer's toothy fish fest that found itself earning the ire of Cameron. The filmmaker cited it as an example of the hasty 3D conversions, while he was barnstorming for Avatar. That led to a sharp -- and lengthy -- rebuke from Piranha 3D's producer Mark Canton. For the sequel, Dimension's Bob Weinstein has reassembled the team behind Feast, the Dimension horror film that served as a season of the TV show Project Greenlight. The director and writers got their starts on that low-budget horror film. Gulager went on to direct two Feast sequels while the scribes moved on to write four installments of the Saw franchise. They recently set an updated version of the classic anthology series The Outer Limits at MGM. Making a late summer date will be difficult, but not impossible, if the writers nail the script in the next four weeks.
'Dead Set' IFC Oct. 25-29th Set Your Reminders
Britain has been hit by an epic problem. The dead are returning to life and attacking the living. The people they kill get up and kill. And it's spreading like wildfire. Within two days, 80 percent of the population is dead. No one knows how this problem started or how widespread it has become, because there are no news channels anymore.
The entire social structure has collapsed in the space of 48 hours. Tiny groups of survivors are holed up across the country, unaware of each other, besieged inside abandoned houses, abandoned hospitals - abandoned anything. Surrounded by growing hordes of the living dead - mindless eating machines powered by raw instinct - they fight to survive, around the clock.
Few people remain who aren't worried about this living nightmare: the remaining contestants in the reality TV game show, "Big Brother." Cocooned in the safety of the Big Brother house, they're blissfully unaware of the horrific events unfolding in the outside world... until eviction night when the walking dead descend on the studio.
In a cruel reflection of the game show they were cast in, one by one they fall victim - devoured by the hungry, unthinking masses outside. Staying alive requires teamwork - a tricky job when you're a group specifically selected by TV producers to not get along and drive each other crazy.

Ryan Murphy, Creator of 'Glee' Thinking "Rocky Horror Picture Show" Remake!
According to Deadline New York Fox has offered "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy a deal to direct the feature film remake.
The 1975 musical has grossed more than $100 million dollars and is considered the longest running theatrical release in film history because it still packs the faithful into midnight shows. The project is taking shape at Fox 2000, with Peter Chernin producing along with Lou Adler. Look for more soon.
Murphy hasn't committed, but he has met. Aside from being very hands on with his hit show, Murphy is also exploring a spring start to direct Mark Ruffalo in The Normal Heart, a feature adaptation of the Larry Kramer play about AIDS written when the disease was a death sentence and nobody seemed to be helping. Murphy also got paid $5 million from Sony Pictures Entertainment to write and direct a romantic comedy that would re-team him with his Eat, Pray, Love star Julia Roberts. The original Rocky Horror Picture Show, written by cast member Richard O'Brien and director Jim Sharman, launched Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick and had a cast that included O'Brien, Nell Campbell and Meat Loaf in a raucous re-telling of the Frankenstein story.

Horror should not have happy endings.....ever!
DON'T READ THIS IF YOU DON'T LIKE SPOILERS!
O.k so I finally got around to watching "Altitude", the nightmarish mile high horror yarn about a group of kids too impatient to drive to a concert so they rent a plane. Yeah sounds harmless doesn't it. Well it wasn't harmless at all, the kids are screwed because a creature straight from H.P. Lovecraft's bowels is on the attack!
First off let me say that I didn't have any hopes for this movie at all but I liked it!. The story was intense and nerving wrecking to say the least. There were a few flaws in the action that defied logical abilities while over 40,000 feet in mid air, but let me remind you "It is a fictional story about a monster trying to eat kids on an airplane".
The plot reminded me of classic Twilight Zone storytelling unfortunately the ending was a little too pleasant for my taste. Back to the movie before the ending screwed it for me, the kids acting was intense and believable for the most part. There are a few scenes where the acting could have been more realistic but it works for this kinda movie. To me it was better than the most of the "original" crap that SyFy throws at us monthly. (minus there few good shows) Anyway, I am no industry person I don't know the technical crap that most people in the biz know. The one irritating thing in the movie to me was the lack of money spent on making the monster look as realistic as ever, after all it was the money maker and when they need to make it pop the FX just phoned it in with generic gaming graphics. The other shorter views of the monster worked because it wasn't on screen too long.
Now HERE IS THE SPOILER! Aside from the one shot where the monster looks cheaply computer generated, and I am not talking about the one shown above, the ending pissed me off! I do not think that there should be happy endings in horror movie, the only survivor should be one if any. The monster or killer is the only thing that should be left standing when the curtain is dropped! History should not have been changed and they should not have survived. There I said it now be pissed but yeah I probably spoiled the movie for most. If I haven't I say see it. It isn't anything special but it comprehensible and budget was good enough to make it work. It is a cool nod to H.P. and Twilight Zone era and me being a kid of those days found this movie fun and gripping, right up till the end. Again the end of this sucked...NO HAPPY ENDINGS IN HORROR MOVIES ...EVER!

D.M.O.A. News "Waiting For Gorgo" Tease
Benjamin Craig is the director and MJ Simpson the writer of this British comedy short set 40 years after the events of Gorgo.
Deep in the bowels of the Ministry of Defence lies a secretive government department identified only as the 'DMOA'. Just what the DMOA does has been lost in the annals of time -- all that is known is that it's the last line of defence protecting London from total destruction.
Determined to find out more about this strange department, Alexandra, a young ambitious defence analyst, sets off into the rabbit warrens of Whitehall to see the DMOA for herself. Finding two aged public servants in varying stages of senility, Alexandra is convinced that the DMOA is the result of an unfortunate mistake. However, as the conversation progresses it becomes apparent that the old guys may not be as senile as they seem, and more worryingly, they may indeed be London's last line of defence.
The original was a British 1961 monster movie.
Greedy sailors capture a giant lizard off the coast of Ireland and sell it to a London circus. Then its mother shows up.
Director: Eugène Lourié
Writers: Robert L. Richards (screen story) (originally as John Loring), Daniel James (screen story).

Latest "Pride Prejudice and Zombie's" News
With the Wolverine job all but sealed, what'll be the next hot job directors will compete for? I'm told a lot of helmers are lining up for Lionsgate's Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, the Seth Grahame-Smith revisionist novel that enhances Jane Austen's tale of class and manners in 19th Century England with the much-needed infusion of bloodthirsty brain-eating zombies.
I'm told that after Natalie Portman backed out of playing Elizabeth Bennet, David O Russell had Scarlett Johansson ready to play the heroine and Bradley Cooper to play Mr. Darcy. Then, Russell himself left to focus on his collaboration with Vince Vaughn Old St. Louis and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune at Sony. Lionsgate claims no cast is set and that other actors are in the mix too. And certainly a new director might want to pick their own leads. So consider them front runners, and Johansson showed she can handle the action when she played Black Widow in Iron-Man 2. Directors are lining up because the Pride, Prejudice and Zombies script that Russell leaves behind is strong. Don't be surprised to see David Slade in the mix here.

Supernatural helps CW win Ratings Rat Race...
It's not very often that the CW wins an hour of primetime among adults 18-49. The network accomplished just that last night with the 200th episode of Smallville, which led the competition at 8 PM with a 1.3/5, matching its season premiere demo number and hitting a season high in total viewers with 3.2 million. Supernatural (1.2/4, 2.8 million) was also strong, matching its season premiere numbers and finishing tied for second place in 18-49 at 9 PM behind CSI: NY (1.7/6, 9.5 million).
