My Review Of “Nightscape: Dark Reign Of Thanatos” 2012

nightscape dark reign of the thanatos
Directors Dom Lenior and Tim Osgood’s “Nightscape: Dark Reign Of Thanatos” is a fantasy film that finds man in an epic battle against the gods. After creating the earth, the god Zelos, out of boredom created two sons in his own image. Charged with upholding his kingdom Aevum and Thanatos enter into a great battle against one another, Thanatos poisoned with evil and Aevum the righteous one wage a war that could threaten the very existence of the world. The film stars Henry Amphlett, Tania Baressi and Julian Lamoral-Roberts.

“Nightscape” has a pretty simple premise but a very in-depth story. The film is dialog heavy with brooding philosophical edicts that keep the film in a very dark and heavy place. The acting at times feels mediocre yet as a whole the cast creates a very tense and serious atmosphere that shines through making the story very entertaining. The action is at a minimal as far as major choreographed battles but the sequences that do provide those thrilling moments of conflict are well done. The film relies mostly on the dialog to tell the story accented by well produced backdrops that blend together gamer quality CGI with live action without seeming cheap and cartoonish. I was pleasantly surprised at just how well the production of this film was considering it is a low budget Indie film. “Nightscape” is not something new as far as the fantasy genre goes. The story is one that echoes throughout many films like this but the characters are creatively imagined and the film manages to be entertaining and theologically strong in its philosophic maturity. There are a few moments were the film becomes slightly mundane and rudimentary but overall this movie is a pretty good fantasy film. If you go into it expecting high budget CGI action then you will be disappointed. If however you except that this is a low budget Indie film then you could be pleasantly surprised by this age old saga.

James Wan’s “The Conjuring” Pushed Back

james wan
Ed and Lorraine Warren have faced many demons and paranormal situations over the years. The case that they are most notably associated with is the story of the infamous Amityville house and the Lutz Family. However they have plenty of other compelling cases documented within the Warren Files. Among those such cases is the film that James Wan is directing entitled “The Conjuring”. Based on true events the story deals with a family who are terrorized by a dark presence fixated within their rural farmhouse. The Warrens actually consider this demonic entity to be among the most powerful that they have faced and fight to save the family from it’s ill intent. The film was first scheduled for a January release but Warner Bros. has pushed the paranormal project back to July 19th 2013.

Check Out The Promo Art For “Killer Pants”

“Killer Pants” conjures all kinds of gory kitschy scenes of trash cinema fun. I also think about crabs but not sure if that is from health class as a kid or all the 80’s sex romp films about S.T.D’s. Either way the notion of a killer ‘something’ lurking and waiting to attack the nether region (hopefully in designer jeans) is hilariously intriguing. Of course this film is also a horror flick so the scares and blood should flow like that first time.  I imagine, my reference is from those terrifying moments of going into the bathroom that I shared with two females as a kid and seeing those monstrous ‘bandages’ in the bin. That and “Carrie”. Anyway I am rambling. Back to the film “Killer Pants”- I have no real clue yet what the film is about but I love this retro new wave styled promo poster for the film that will be directed by Josh Terry and Josh Wright. Filming on this Indie flick is currently in progress and I am sure more details and cool stills will be coming along shortly. Can’t wait! Also click on the Facebook and show them some love!

My Review Of “No Tell Motel” 2012

Directed by Brett Bonowho and starring Angel McCord, Chelsey Reist, Johnny Hawks, Rileigh Chalmers and Andrew MacFarlane this horror flick centers around a dilapidated highway respite plagued with a tragic past and sinister presence. Five friends take a road trip in a borrowed caravan and discover more than they wanted to about one another on their journey into hell. The film has all signs of being a classic and creepy little thriller.

no_tell_motel[3]The film is a cut and dry horror story with predictable characters. That is not always a bad thing and luckily for this film the stereotypes stop just as the movie really takes off. Sometime around the 25 minute mark  when things get dark and twisted. The settings backstory is one that is always chilling. A dead kid with a tragic life and a place as haunting and mournful as run down graveyard. As the film starts with the scary it also brings to light some really flawed characters on more than a tragic path that results in the accident which lands them at the motel.

These kids' lives where a train wreck way before they embarked on this little journey. It is a cool additive that allows the characters to be interesting. I didn't get bored with them from the word ‘go’. ‘Go’ would have been the moment the sat in the caravan showing their personalities in that mundane predictable way that most horror cast set-up seem to go these days. Luckily it doesn't take hold because the horror unfolds pretty quick.

The scares are almost set-up taking some fright out of the scene but not much. There were a few moments I actually jumped during the film. The lighting and cinematography was shot in a way that maintains the creepy dark atmosphere of the story. The acting is hit or miss with a few of the cast but overall is very believable. I connected with these ‘almost-delinquents’.  “No Tell Motel” was a very entertaining film that made the cut and dry horror theme held within enjoyable and watchable from beginning to end. There is blood, gore, and screams-oh and drama. I enjoyed the film and will add it to my collection of DVD’s.
