Horror Icon Thom Mathews Leads the Cast of Barry Jay's "Killer Therapy"

Horror Icon Thom Mathews Returns to Acting After Ten Years
Star of Friday the 13th Part VI and The Return of the Living Dead
Leads the Cast of Barry Jay's Killer Therapy
Alongside PJ Soles, Adrienne King, Daeg Faerch and More
First Stills and Statement Released

Rellik Pictures has released the first look at Barry Jay's Killer Therapy.  The latest scream from the director of Ashes and executive producer of Never Hike AloneKiller Therapy tells the story of Brian, a disturbed young man seeking revenge for slights real and imagined, from the family that is terrified of him to the long line of therapists who tried and failed to find a soul inside him.

For his second feature, Jay enlisted the talents of genre legend Thom Mathews as the family patriarch.  After early appearances in Return of the Living Dead and as long-time Jason foe Tommy Jarvis in the Friday the 13th franchise, Mathews has stepped away from narrative roles in recent years, appearing at conventions and in documentaries.

On returning to a leading role in the genre, Mathews said, "I'm very excited to bring Barry Jay & Andrew Krop's script Killer Therapy to life.  After meeting with Barry and reading the script, I knew I wanted to bring this character to the screen because it brought me back to my horror roots. I always try to find the humanity in every role and I have a bloody good role as John Langston. Killer Therapy is a complex story and I enjoyed going to the set every day."

Killer Therapy also stars a number of horror legends, established stars and rising talents, including PJ Soles (Halloween, Carrie), Adrienne King (Friday the 13th), Daeg Faerch (Rob Zombie's Halloween), Elizabeth Keener ("The L Word"), Ivy George ("Big Little Lies") and introducing Michael Qeliqi as Brian.

Brian is a disturbed child with sociopathic tendencies dealing with a father who doesn't love him, a mother unconvinced of his violent nature, and a newly adopted sister he believes is there to replace him. After a series of escalating violent incidents, he is bounced around from failed therapist to failed therapist, maturing into a young man still unable to escape his anger issues. When his life eventually falls apart by his own choices, Brian blames his series of failed therapists, embracing his dark nature and taking his revenge on everyone who ever wronged him - one by one, finally understanding that accepting who you are inside can be the best therapy.

Killer Therapy is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere on the film festival circuit in the coming months.

U.S. Release Details Announced For "One Cut Of The Dead"

Shudder, in association with Variance Films, is bringing One Cut of the Dead to theaters in NY and LA, starting on September 13th, a one-night national screening is planned for September 17th. The film will then be released on Shudder's streaming service.

One of the most critically-acclaimed genre films of the past decade and a record-shattering blockbuster in its native Japan, ONE CUT OF THE DEAD first appears to be a one-take indie zombie film... but something magical happens 37 minutes in: the film's director yells cut and - throwing all cinematic conventions and viewer expectations to the wind - it transforms into a charming story about the power of family, the passion that goes into making movies, and, in its stunning final sequence, a uproarious meta re-examination of the film’s opening single take and how it came to be!

We don’t want to spoil all of that for our audience, but a theatrical release needs a trailer, so we made one. And while we hope you’ll post and share it right away, it does comes with a spoiler alert, advising the audience to stop watching, simply take our word for it, and just grab some tickets (at www.onecut-movie.com). We suspect that those of you who have seen the film will agree with our approach, and agree that, even after watching our trailer, we’ve preserved the film’s brilliant Rube Goldberg-level gags and misdirection.

Shudder, in association with theatrical partner Variance Films, is bringing festival favorite ONE CUT OF THE DEAD to the big screen, prior to its debut on Shudder - and they’re bringing it everywhere. Opening in NYC (IFC Center) and LA (Alamo Drafthouse Downtown) on 9/13, people around the country won’t have to wait - over 60 one-night screenings across the US and Canada are slated for Tuesday, 9/17, with additional screenings to follow and more being added daily.

Official synopsis:
While shooting a low-budget zombie film in an abandoned warehouse, the crew find themselves caught between actual zombies and a mad director who won’t stop rolling. If you think you know what happens next, think again. Filmmaker Shinichiro Ueda turns the film on its head more than once for one of the wildest, funniest, and most surprising zombie movies of all time.

GLOBAL DIGITAL RELEASING Sets Theatrical Release Date For Dark Comedy “GROUPERS”

GLOBAL DIGITAL RELEASING has acquired the worldwide rights to writer / director Anderson Cowan’s feature film debut, “GROUPERS”.

The film centers around two all-American high school jocks Brad and Dylan (Peter Mayer-Klepchick and Cameron Duckett) who are out for a night on the town when they are approached by the beautiful and seductive Meg (Nicole Dambro) at a local bar.  Ready for what they hope will be a night to remember, the guys are subsequently kidnapped, drugged and awaken tied up face to face in an abandoned pool in the middle of nowhere. Absurdity and insanity ensue as we learn that Orin (Jesse Pudles), Meg’s overly flamboyant brother has been the target of Brad and Dylan’s homophobic bullying and that Meg is actually a grad student who plans to perform a psychological and somewhat sadistic experiment on them as part of her thesis, which poses the question, “is homosexuality a choice”.
The Cinequest Film Festival referred to the film in its 2018 line up as “a rare, highly original, and super-charged dark comedy that will keep you guessing and contemplating the provocative, yet crucial themes at its essence”.

“This is an important film”, stated Global Digital Releasing President Joe Dain. “Homophobia has always been an issue in our society but with the current administration and the potential roll backs of LGBTQ protections in this country, it’s not only timely but Anderson effectively tackles the subject matter in a dark, humorous, yet thought provoking and entertaining way that we believe will resonate with audiences and we wanted to give it the opportunity to garner the attention we feel it deserves.”

The film is set to open in Los Angeles on Friday, September 27th at the Laemmle Music Hall theater and will expand into additional markets on October 1st. The distributor plans to submit the film to the GLADD Media and Spirit Awards for consideration.

My Review Of "Seeds"

"Seeds" is a psychological creature feature directed by Owen Long. The film stars Trevor Long, Andrea Chen, Garr Long, and Kevin Breznahan. It is a blend of gothic melodrama and psychological horror which creates a story as compelling and complicated as it is hard to watch.

After a night of debauchery spirals out of control, Marcus retreats to his family home along the New England coast. Solitude is disturbed when his brother asks Marcus to look after his estranged nephew and niece. As days pass, solace escapes him; he feels baited by a dark force. Is he losing his mind or has something terrible burrowed deep within him? Incubating. Waiting until the climate is right. Haunted by his deepest fears, Marcus struggles not to succumb as he fights to protect Lily, his beloved niece from a monster that lies in wait.

"Seeds" isn't unique in its style or concept when telling stories like this, surreal melodrama and psychological horror meant to serve as a metaphor for something else. It is creative, and even with such dark, uncomfortable material, the film is often poetic. Right off, I got impressions of classic horror dramas like "Suspiria" and "Possession". Two films that hardly made sense at times, flowed in a dreamscape of confusion and melanchalia, but managed to be captivating and hypnotic.

"Seeds" is filmed beautifully, the characters hang between detached mimics and relatable, tragic beings. I have to admit though that a lot of the film is muddled in aimless grandeur, and it took far too long for a clear story line to emerge. There is also a very real moment when you understand the metaphorical significance, it all becomes predictable, and I wished for the confusion and mesmer to return.

The horror rests mostly on the psychological elements, more so than the monster aspect. The conflict between ones own morality and propensity for depravity is universal and always relavent. The creature, set aside it's own existence within the film, is menacing when on screen . Strikingly so! Still what I personally wanted was a representation a bit more Lovecraftian, than what I got.

Overall I left the film being a little split on my feelings. There is so much in this film that is told disturbing, beautiful. The acting is superb, and the creativity can't be denied. But I also wanted a bit more actualized, traditional horror. Still "Seeds" is film worth checking out, and a project worthy of recognition. (3.5/5)
