My Review Of "Nina: Crazy Suicide Girl

"Nina is a EuroObscura Grindhouse film about a woman on a mission to seek justice for the brutal slayings of young models in a small Italian province. The film stars Mauro Cipriani, Irene Giordano and Gabriele Guerra. It is an intense indie gore flick that sees the main antagonist as a female who is the abuser of women as the leader of a cult of twisted criminals whereas normally in these films it is a man afflicting the abuses on women. "Nina" is directed by Christian Arioli. It is reminiscent of the 70's style of Italian cinema. It is subtitled so be prepared.
The film goes closer to the edge of torture porn than most American grindhouse flicks dare. Although it sexual matter isn't out of context of the story. The subject is respectful to the plot of "Nina: Crazy Suicide Girl". The film is very effective in shining a light on a global issue in the sex industry, the illegal human trafficking elements that plague our society. All of this aligns within the realm of demon cult worship which is an aspect of this film I found most appealing. The characters come off more detached and subdued than your typical grindhouse cast. The film has a more giallo-esque feel than a gore film. Luckily the blood is there and the story is entertaining.
It takes a good 46 minutes for Nina to get her action on but once she does the shit is really on. The blood sprays, bodies drop and pain is felt. I only wish the character of Nina could have been a bit more over the top and animated, but I am an American, I think over the top on everything. At times she seems lifeless and without expression. Thank the gods for the violence and demonic cult to hold me to "Nina" because the character came off a little flat. Still I love me some crazy cult stories.
With this film I was impressed that the director managed to avoid being graphically exploitative when it came to the rape scenes. A very respectable choice to make when doing grindhouse movies. There is a cool story here and a body count. This film has a slow start but there is gore. Plus you get a soulful message at the end of "Nina: Crazy Suicide Girl". "Nina" hits the American streets on June 26,2012 courtesy of Chemical Burn Entertainment.
