Freestyle Digital Media has announced that they have acquired digital rights to SURVIVING EVIL, a tense international horror/thriller starring Billy Zane (TITANIC), Christina Cole (MUTUAL FRIENDS), Natalie Mendoza (THE DESCENT) and Filipino star Joel Torre (AMIGO, ON THE JOB). Written and directed by Terence Daw, the film was produced by David Pupkewitz, Anton Ernst and Malcolm Kohll. SURVIVING EVIL will be available on all VOD platforms on August 20th.
In the film a television documentary crew begins shooting a jungle survival special on the remote Mayaman Island in the Philippines. Things start out casual for host Sebastian “Seb” Beazley (Zane) and his team until the jungle takes a terrifying turn. With horror they discover a local legend is all too real when a mythical creature called the Aswang ultimately descends from the trees and begins stalking them through the jungle.
“I’m thrilled that Freestyle Digital Media is releasing SURVIVING EVIL in the US, first across VOD then on DVD in time for Halloween. Despite the rigors of shooting in the jungle, it was a great experience working with the South African crew and with a talented international ensemble of actors from Hollywood, the UK, South Africa and the Philippines. I hope the movie provides some thrills and entertainment for the American audience,” said Daw.
Recent Freestyle Digital Media titles include the SXSW festival favorite FUNERAL KINGS from the McManus Brothers, the critically-acclaimed documentary SAMSARA from filmmakers Ron Fricke and Mark Magidson, and TIGER EYES, the first big screen adaptation of a Judy Blume novel, starring Willa Holland.
