My Review Of The Faculty Club By Danny Tobey

Danny Tobey’s supernatural thriller The Faculty Club is a straight forward suspenseful story of secret orders, life changing events and the occult. The novel follows a young man from rural America who is just too smart for his own good. Accepted to the number one Ivy League school in the nation he soon finds out that academia is the least of his worries. He finds himself in a fight with a sinister underworld of rich and powerful elitist. The story follows along the same line as many stories about secret clubs where the rich and powerful gather to decide the fate of the world. Told more like a crime thriller Danny Tobey manages to keep the true seduction of this novel well hidden through the first half of the novel only to go full speed into the dark and very evil practice of the occult through one of  the more ancient practices known as Voodoo.

faculty-clubThis novel was a very nice surprise. When I first began reading I started to feel as if I had heard this story many times before. Many of the storylines take a similar angle as other novels and films about secret orders on Ivy league campuses. However about midway through the story Danny hints at the very strong supernatural element within this power struggle tale. It began to fall into place and those reservations I first had melted away into a nice dark pleasure of the sinister plot twist. The occult is masked quite well in this tale until the last half almost following a very real perception of stumbling upon such a macabre reality. I was quite pleased with the maturity of the story and handling of the voodoo aspect to this tale. I am very glad I read the book. Danny Tobey tells a great supernatural conspiracy theory that can hang with the best of the sinister plots written or blogged about in pop culture.
