My Review Of Horror Short "Deep Shock"

Horror short "Deep Shock" is tribute to years of classic, cinematic Italian giallo. The film is directed by Davide Melini and stars Muireann Bird, Franscesc Pages, George Bracebridge, Lorna Larkin, Erica Prior, and Luis Fernandez de Eribe. "Deep Shock" is a short, intense thriller showcasing the beautiful psychotic of theatrical nightmare storytelling.

Sarah can't completely overcome the deaths of her grandfather and her older sister. The trauma and lack of sleep cause her to embark on a strange journey of apparitions and murders, apparently caused by her mind...

The story is a very traditional celebration of the human condition as it unravels into shocking, and Horrific terror. Very much a love letter to Dario Argento's work, the story concept most reflect "Phenomena" and "Deep Red" yet manages to be fresh and interesting. It starts out dark and chilling before resting on a classic giallo melodrama character study. But as horror goes the ending of "Deep Shock" is blood splatter filled giallo at it's best.

The horror is both visually and atmospherically exciting. The showdow play against suspenseful dreamlike sequences create a strong giallo nightmare. The cinematography blends surrealism with more traditional slasher-like visceral elements. The film is total giallo . The characters are just developed enough to relate but suspended enough out of reach to feel like intriguingly strange creatures. "Deep Shock" is 30 minutes of Italian horror at it's best. (4/5)
