My Review Of "Lady Of The Dark"

"Lady Of The Dark" is a dark conceptual piece that shows the transformation of a young woman from normal housewife into a sinister creature. The film is shot from a voyeuristic view point that at times moves more like a music video than an actual movie. The soundtrack provides the ambiance of this very avant gard film since there is next to no dialogue to speak of. the picture is purely visual in its approach.
The flick is held solely on the acting of a single character. The only other people in the film are shown as faceless bodies during her various sexual victims she seduces and then feeds upon. this film is not meant to show the gruesome and violent effects of such a transformation instead pulling you in with visual seduction and music as you witness the lady's cold change in solitude.
My only complaint with the film is the lack of cast and dialogue. At times it would have been nice to experience some of the brutality she inflicts on her victims or even to hear her own words more directly spoken expressing her frustration or rage. I personally did not like this film all though I understood the director's intent. For me the emotion was too far removed from the character for me to connect with her. Visually the picture rocked-literally. With the camera tricks and soundtrack it felt more like a rock opera unfolding.
If you like the avant gard abstract cinema stuff that thrives conceptually then see it. If however you only care for the action, dialogue, and norm then don't see it.
