| Rise of the Apes is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. The Planet of the Apes franchise is based on the 1963 novel La Planète des Singes (Planet of the Apes) by French author Pierre Boulle. There have been five feature movies so far. The franchise spawned a Planet of the Apes TV series in the '70s, which was turned into a series of telefilms in the '80s, an animated series, several adapted and original novels and comic books, toys, and a whole host of other related products. The Rise of the Apes screenplay was written by the team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Eye for an Eye), who are also producing along with first-time producers Dylan Clark and Peter Chernin. Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) will direct. |
