Ever since I first saw the poster heard of this remake of 1975’s “Criminally Insane” I have eagerly anticipating seeing this independent film simply and perfectly titled “Crazy Fat Ethel 2012”. Well Brian Dorton and the crew at reel Epic have been busy on the promo trailer and released a few shots from the set featuring – who else! Crazy Fat Ethel who’s silhouette has teased me with visions of Shirley Stoler and Priscilla Alden and on a couple of occasions I imagined what it would have been like had it been a John Waters film and that was Divine wielding a meat clever. Yes because sometimes my thoughts do tend to stray of the path of linear thought and focus. Anyway is really a film that I am glad to see coming in the next year!
Brian Dorton is a Kentucky cult film and independent horror director/writer/actor and what ever else his projects need him to be. He is truly talented. As the director of “Trashology”, already showing at festivals and acting in “Kill Cecile”, and “Theatre of Derange” complete you can see where his true passion lies, making and being apart of a ever growing and greatly appreciated section of cinema. The independent film industriy is about as great a place to as any to bring your visions and passions to life. Brian will also be visible soon in “Mother’s Blood” from Darkrider Studios and Alan Rowe Kelly’s “Tales Of Poe” .
Below is some on set pics recently posted on the “Crazy Fat Ethel 2012” Facebook Page from shooting the promo trailer to this soon to be cult classic.
After years in a mental institution, Ethel is taken in by her aunt. Many people including the head nurse of the institution and a local detective believe letting Ethel leave that hospital was a HUGE mistake.
